What if Bitcoin (and blockchain tech in general) started as a social experiment (possibly by the NSA*) to acclimatize the masses to a cashless society?

* http://groups.csail.mit.edu/mac/classes/6.805/articles/money/nsamint/nsamint.htm
https://www.naturalnews.com/2017-12-10-evidence-points-to-bitcoin-being-an-nsa-psyop-roll-out-one-world-digital-currency.html
https://www.zerohedge.com/news/2017-06-12/exposed-real-creator-bitcoin-likely-nsa-one-world-currency

I know it sounds like a weird conspiracy theory, but think about it for a second...

There's one major hurdle for the Average Joe when it comes to blockchain tech: securing someone's private key. Most people are too negligent and they tend to lose/forget passwords and stuff like that (unless it's too easy to remember).

What's the solution to this problem?

Store the private key (256-bit number) into an NFC chip and inject it into your hand! Sounds familiar?

https://arstechnica.com/information-technology/2014/11/man-has-nfc-chips-injected-into-his-hands-to-store-cold-bitcoin-wallet/
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Number_of_the_Beast

Disclaimer: I'm not a religious person.

We don't know who Satoshi Nakamoto is, but we know that he was a very smart person and he made lots of successful predictions...

If you think this is a conspiracy theory, then try to remember why Steam (most famous PC digital game marketplace) succeeded: PC gamers were acclimatized to digital-only games thanks to piracy (which was condoned to a certain extent) for many years before Steam arrived.

Pls don't shoot the messenger! Smiley

Nobody should waste any time thinking about such a stupid conspiracy theory. All the sources posted are garbage websites that peddle nonsense to idiots who are too stupid to think critically. Society was moving to a cashless system far before crypto was ever conceived, let alone implemented, and nobody is even using Bitcoin on a large scale compared to actual cashless fiat systems. If the gubment wanted to acclimate people to cashless society because [insert evil conspiracy theory] they would come up with something far more useful than crypto and something that people actually use to conduct transactions.

A society cannot be called completely cashless society even if it is mostly using digital money. We cannot still deny the fact that we need the paper money to regulate the economy of our country and to identify us that the currency we are using is belongs to that society. It is very normal nowadays all over the world to use cashless mode of transactions but it wouldn't determine the society to be as cashless.

I agree with you, this totally means there is still countries needs a paper money, not all can easily adopts to use this digital money. To the fact, cashless society also has a good impact to the economy were it  helps as fast transaction. Therefore, cashless society would be great but, in my country paper money still has the vital role in the economy system whereas this technology is not yet totally adopted.

Only countries where people don't have access to internet need paper money. In a futuristic society there isn't any need of using paper money, only if people wish for some particular reasons... Countries can regulate their economy virtually and it's even easier for them to track the money in a digital format than in paper. Paper money can go to anywhere and it won't be tracked, while digital money is being tracked all the time.

In our countries cashless society isn't a reality yet because the lack of technology, as you said, and the lack of interest from older people in learning how to use digital cash instead of paper.

It is said now China is a cashless society. Use of debit and credit cards in shops/stores, online pay bills, shopping online.

Money earned from the internet is known as digital/electronic money. People who earn money from the internet, they get paid money in electronic form by payment processors such as skrill, perfectmoney, alipay, paypal, bank-wire transfers because online workers are worldwide.

Last month, I got $20 from online surveys. The money was sent to my bank account via online payment processor. Now if I buy 2 shirts using debit cards at offline or online stores, there is no cash involved but I have 2 shirts.

Bitcoin is a part of digital money. How is digital money is your country ??

Cashless society is a great idea but i think that there are governments who are going to complain about the system because some of the are corrupted and they do not want to get tracked about those bad things they are doing to the community.

I think it will not happened because some street vendors doesn't know about the technologies On bitcoin. About transactioning the payments through the system ,we all know that some people still believe on the paper money because of the historical and well known all over the world. Instead of cashless society I think paper money still  exist but it will reduce because of digital money.
to change from fiat money to digital money i think it need a long time. besides that many rejection of this. there are still many areas that do not yet have internet so they will still use fiat currency

Its now become more popular using digital money in many country. Its because the advance of technology. In my country, not many people using digital money, and digital money not in many merchant but I am believe in the future, its will be standart for payment
Glad to hear this kind of situation in other country a cashless society. Here in my country digital currency is started to be well known. But, not in the sense to be adopted by all to use as payment in the store. Our Government has no plans to adopt this digital currency because people still prefer the onhand or paper money. As this paper money is still very vital in the economy and to all citizens.
This is the same situation we are beginning to have in my country as well and with the way things are going, it is becoming rampant.

Yeah, one may still need paper money in some places, but you are rather doing most of the things you do digitally these days without the need of card. You buy food, fuel, groceries, etc. with your debit or credit card via POS, and most times, you are living every day without cash, that is how it has become.

Technology is advancing every day, internet itself has changed a lot of things and since we can easily do most things without having to hold fiat, cashless system is beginning to gradually take a hold of most places all over the world. I cannot remember the last time I held fiat, and even the little I have on me for a long time now, it is either I am using it to pay some few hard laborers who may do some repairs for me, or give it as alms.

Globally, "cashless" seems to be the trend.

At the same time, China, Sweden, Canada, the United States and other central Banks have started research on the legal digital currency. Does this mean that a cashless society is about to arrive?

In recent years, the world's central Banks have been exploring the introduction of digital currency, and "cashless" seems to have become an inevitable trend, with many worrying that paper money will be replaced by digital money.

Switzerland is obviously heading for cashless society. They're developing a new token Saga with low volatility and without an opportunity to speculate. It means it will only be appropriate for payments. However, it'll not be anonymous
I think Switzerland was one of the most economic stable country in the , and I think mist of the peopl their agrred with that issue and its 21st Century probably, the fact that its a digital age already they are very familiar and updated with it, unlike in countries belong with Third World Country caption, we are not yet ready for it, it may worsen the situation of the less fortunate people.

Digital currency in my country is still prohibited to be used for shopping anytime, because it seems my country's government is afraid of inflation if bitcoin dominates the market while the currency of my country even does not apply, with the government will be difficult to control the market
It is my opinion that if bitcoin keeps getting bigger we are going to see more and more of that, governments trying to do their best to forbid bitcoin and avoid people to use it but if they are unable to offer a better product, in this case a currency, then people are going to use the superior currency, that is unavoidable, so at the end it doesn't matter what the government do if they cannot manage their economies correctly bitcoin will overcome their fiat.

Bitcoin is banned in china. There are 831 billionaires/super-rich people in China. What is the future of Bitcoin and cryptocurrencies ??

It is more of a reduced cash society than cashless as we still use the fiat currencies in some of our financial transactions. Yes , digital money give rise to a cashless society which is encouraging to the crypto users . The mainstream society will come to understand that bitcoin is a digital money that can be spend to purchase goods , services or transaction on the internet as they will use the fiat currency in their bank accounts

Dude are you a little kid? No matter how cashless a country is, the cash will always be needed in some places or situations, and it will always be in banks. You can’t change that, cash will always be in banks cause it is the real money. Electronics are just a way of making us feel safe when using money, and it’s also a way of making thing quick and easy so we don’t have to be walking around carrying cash, you just tap your phone and bank will handle the rest.

To our country there's still existing paper money and currency but Bitcoin and any other cryptocurrency aren't banned or anything, only it is not accepted on some of the stores that needs paying up so the digital money to our country isn't still happening. But yeah you can invest Bitcoin and it is not illegal, just the media telling that bitcoin is very dangerous investment like you will lose money when you invest which is very biased on their side against bitcoin.

Going to tough to have Digital Money as crypto = cashless society ...unless banks are going to allow credit card use (and or application cards ..like litepay for

litecoin was supposed to be) and they just kill it dead...as not accepted

Bitpay needs to expand to all crypto (LTC) etc in some manner..they already have their foot in the door for maybe fixing this

as to other players, they are getting slap'd down fast by banks for even trying

just my view, as it stands now...

using cashless payments is always good for a country because when a person do cashless transaction the record of the transaction will automatically been recorded in the system. also cashless transactions are fast and secure as compare to cash transaction.
Electronic money is a new level of cashless transaction. also it is a new way of earnings to many people. in my country (INDIA) RBI has issued a notice to banks to stop the transactions of digital money. so investors of INDIA are in a bit trouble.

I am also favor in cashless society but I won't also allow or agree with eliminating cash at all, we should just make bitcoin as an alternative way. So for me, I would choose how digital money just like bitcoin makes and function right now, I don't want to just eliminate cash at all.
