It kind of gives you some more security as compared to the other coins. The thing is rest of the alts are weak in long term contracts, I mean it could happen that they may loose the project development hopes, they may end up with zero investments or people leaving the project slowly and scenes like that. On the other hand we have ethereum and bitcoin which are almost the same in terms of their forever existence on the blockchain. They are non ending because mostly people choose them first and then they go for the rest. I like eth, but once projects can just as easily choose platforms like NEO, EOS, Stratis, Vechain, Icon, Stellar etc...with perhaps certain benefits for each project....the only reason why eth should be worth a lot is because of it's 2nd use as a fiat pair at all exchanges...but even that will change sooner or later, as many other new fiat pairs are on its way.

And also, 2018/2019 should be the year of mainnets....so many current projects still on the eth platform will move off to their own blockchain....
