Nice effort.

However, I'd like to tell you something.

Today on IRC I was almost insulted for trying to promote bitcoin.  And you know what?  Screw them!

I mean, if people are not capable of understanding what a good money is, then I don't want to spend my time trying to convince them.  Nor do I want to withstand insults.

I learned about bitcoin because I was interested in monetary problems that exist nowadays.  I was looking for something like bitcoin and I found out about it on wikipedia (it was the a just link: the article itself was on a user space at that time).  Nobody came to me saying:  "hey look at that!"

So from now on, I won't try to "evangelize" about bitcoin any more.  I'll let people use their stupid beloved paper money if that's what they want.

...I learned about bitcoin because I was interested in monetary problems that exist nowadays.  I was looking for something like bitcoin...

This was how I found it too - if we both thought of the concept of bitcoins before we knew it existed we're probably not the only ones. This is one of the strongest reasons I have for believing in this.

Sorry, I can't help you with your lost password.

15 BTC sent. I could see how bitterly cold it was, and I hope this covers the cost of the gloves he had to buy after 45 minutes.

I couldn't post a comment directly to the blog, and I really felt the need to comment on this statement, I thought I'd do so here.

Quote
I have come to the point in my life where I will only eat living plant food. I have always been a fan of common sense, and when I stepped back and looked at the whole picture, being a raw vegan was the only option. It is ethically the cleanest diet, it has the most nutrition, and it is the diet of every other wild animal on the planet. It consumes the least energy to produce and prepare, and its the diet that we have eaten for millions of years up until very recently.

Um... what? According to Anthony Anderson, there are no meat eating animals in the wild, and humans did not eat meat until recently. Wtf?

Obviously the first part is false, but it is true that it is the diet of a majority of animals.  The second depends on your definition of recently, but I'd say for most definitions it is also false.  However, this does not negate his point that it is the diet that places the least strain on our ecosystem.  Depending on who you ask, it takes about 15-20 lbs of grain to produce one pound of meat.  Of course, meat is denser calorie wise, but not by a factor of 15.  The biggest issue of course is that meat is just so damn delicious.

As we slide down the banister of life, this is just another splinter in our ass.

His science is a load of bunk. Our diets have mostly consisted of meat since the inception of the species. Our genetics haven't changed. We still need meat.

Right, his science is bunk and your science says our genetics haven't changed since the beginning of our species.  Regardless, billions of people on this planet are vegetarian.  We don't NEED meat.

http://www.hinduonnet.com/2006/08/14/stories/2006081403771200.htm

40% of india, unless you count eggs as meat, than it's 31%.

http://www.google.com/search?q=population%20of%20india shows 1.155 billion, so 358 - 462 million in India alone.  Billions might be an exaggeration, but it's probably not too far from 1 billion.

I doubt that there are billions. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vegetarianism_by_country)

I agree that we do not need meat to survive, and also that the environmental impact of raising livestock for food is high. However, I believe it is much harder to get all of the nutrients necessary for survival as a vegetarian, especially if you don't live in a first world country.

I'd say it's more difficult in a first world country.  Fresh fruits and vegetables are harder to come by in a country where the only farmers who can make a living are giant corporations who get paid by the government per acre of farmland.  It's fucking retarded that the US subsidizes corn prices for the entire world while family farmers need to work a full time job in addition to tending their land.

As we slide down the banister of life, this is just another splinter in our ass.
