...Though, — we've also been sleeping in a room with an Avalon, so maybe we've already gone deaf. Smiley

Sleeping with an avalon, yes you must have gone deaf, when I had mine at home it was one floor up and 2 rooms over and I could still hear it. Smiley

Let me tell: with a knc jupiter you can sleep in the same room, even near the jupiter. No noise...the ants are 3 or 4 times louder.

If you have both can you make a video comparing the noise of both if that is not too much trouble. Thank you.
I guess there are many video on youtube from both miner, so you could compare if you don't believe me.

gmaxwell, if you can sleep in a room with a turbine sound avalon you are deaf, definitly.  Grin

Compared with a avalon the ant is like a whipser.  Shocked

Tolerance varies per person... have a friend who worked for decades in datacenters... now he finds silence very very uncomfortable...

There are but you can't compare 2 videos in terms of noise if they are not shot with the same microphone.
You can make a quick video with your phone just to compare noise please Smiley

In terms of PSU: is Corsair 430W Builder Series enough or should I get 500W version?

Thank you.

The CX430 is only rated to 28A on its 12V rail and is group regulated so the 12V rail voltage will drop quite a bit (and the 5V rail voltage will go way high) if you don't load the 5V rail as well. It's a bad choice.
Look at test CL2.

i suggest you to use : Corsair CP-9020015 750W.
i think this is quite enough for a miner.
from what i read in forums and reviews you need 32A on 12V rail.

I'll then get Corsair Builder Series CXM 500W
it has 38A on the 12V line.

That would probably work, although it's the same crappy group regulated design and the 430W and will have issues will only being loaded on its 12V rail.

32A is really pushing it - you could easily have high error rates and absolutely no overclocking ability (and isnt $10 more for a bigger PSU worth an extra 10-20GH/s?)

24" PCI-E cables with 16AWG wires and stripped ends - great for server PSU mods, best prices https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=563461
No longer a wannabe - now an ASIC owner!

Bitmain need to push something stronger then 180Gh units to the market, very soon or they will be left behind.

Bitmain: Got anything up your sleeves? No need to worry about future 180Gh sales, they won´t sell less just because you tell us your next move,

Who cares about the X GH/s amount. It's irrelevant.

Hashes per Joule? Relevant.
Hashes per BTC? Very relevant.
Hashes per cubic meter? Relevant for some.

Hashes per second per device? Almost totally irrelevant.

I think Bitmain has done well in offering a device smaller than some of the preorder unicorns. There are certainly people who bought only one or two units who wouldn't have bought a 4x performing unit at 4x the price because they didn't want to dive that deep in... doubly so when the prices are not attractive enough that a healthy profit can be completely assured.

I don't know anything about Bitmain's per unit order processing and shipping overheads, but assuming that they aren't enormous I'd imagine that around $1k to $2k in value is probably a purchasing sweet spot in terms of making devices which are accessible to a large number of people without dealing with the trouble of a lot of small purchases.   Keeping the per device price around that much value but driving up the hashes per joule and hashes per sec per $ would probably be a good path forward.

+1 Well said, and I agree.  I hadn't bought a piece of hardware since my B2 avalon almost a year ago... Then Bitmain showed up.
