Stephens dug deep in this epic battle, needing two hours and seven minutes to record the marathon win. It was a fantastic performance by Stephens who became the fourth unseeded woman to reach the US Open final in the Open era.

Wong, who signed in May with the Chicago Wolves, Vegas' American Hockey League affiliate, as an undrafted free agent after he had 109 points (51 goals, 58 assists) in 69 games for Lethbridge of the Western Hockey League last season, scored his second goal on a rebound at the side of the net with 2:30 left in the first period to make it 4-2. The 5-foot-9 forward completed his hat trick 6:56 into the third period when he scored for a 6-3 lead.
