There's some kind of bug in the 1.1 client. Whenever I try to send coins now, the client freezes for 5 or so minutes, then sends the transaction, however the transaction is not seen on the network (only locally).
1.1? This still works? Now might be a good time to upgrade to 1.7 1.7 ?!?1?!

As an additional thought is it possible to add messages to older clients when they connect? i.e. notify them of the most recent version?

It is possible. Gridcoin does it, and even auto-updates.

Why everybody says that "Merge mine with HUC and cap the coin" What's the HUC? And why should merge mine with HUC but LTC?

Why everybody says that "Merge mine with HUC and cap the coin" What's the HUC? And why should merge mine with HUC but LTC?
Because the two are match made in heaven. DOGE has tons of marketing dumped into it and little mining power. HUC has little marketing, but the potential for HUGE mining power. (Huntercoin is dual algo, so it is merge mined with SCRYPT/ASIC... BTC and LTC in other words... why pick only LTC when you could have the strength of both.) Together they could make some serious changes in the world, but the HUC dev would want to do this too (They are namecoin developers.) Would be nice to have everyone on the same wave length... community and devs from both sides, but I am 99% sure Jackson actually wants to kill it. He doesn't give a rat fuck about digital currency and thinks it is all a joke. I think it would be best for DOGE if he left the project. I am saying cap the coin because A: It was originally pushed to the public as capped. BTC wanted to flow into it more then than now (obviously) B: A capped coin means that your coins are special.. if it isn't capped there will just be 5.25 Billion new coins from now till forever. (Huntercoin is the Namecoin devs new project. They are really wonderful guys and I'm sure the two dev communities could team up and make a monster.) I've seen it before I have a soft spot in my heart for DOGE and I really want to see this coin last. This includes being profitable... 1doge=$1 that is a winners attitude. Not Jacksons 1doge=1doge. I fucking win

Merge mine with HUC and cap the coin. Like ive been saying
Actually, merge-mining with LTC would be a better idea, imho. Merging with HUC would bring, what, 1 more gh/s? on the start of merge-mining idea i was against but now when i see doge network going down i think it was great idea

Coindesk article http://www.coindesk.com/what-dogecoin-must-do-survive/Stephen Gornick • 2 hours ago To perform a 51% attack on Dogecoin is much, much less than this author suggests.
A 51% attack for the purpose of double spending against the exchanges would need about $5M worth of the new Scrypt ASIC hardware mining away on a private fork of the Dogecoin blockchain. LIkely even less than $5M is necessary as a successful attack will likely involve DDoS'g the existing pools such that the total hashing on the public chain is lowered.
Additionally, the attacker doesn't need to invest $5M just on this attack. Those Scrypt ASICs are only needed for about an hour -- and can go back to mining Litecoin or whatever after the attack. So all that is needed is to direct $5M worth of hardware to the private Dogecoin blockchain fork for a short time until the aim of the attack (sell Dogecoins for bitcoins, litecoins or other non-reversible payment method, then withdraw the funds) is complete.
Dogecoin's ultimate death (as a proof-of-work altcoin) is and has been fairly well known by anyone who understands the economics behind it. But providing such warnings makes one an "altcoin hater" or whatever, so the "community" is getting what they wanted -- a lighter, happier, less-stuck-up (and now soon-to-be "worthless") altcoin for their tipping pleasure.
I just hope those who lost their money holding Dogecoin were prepared for such losses. bycrystal • 14 hours ago Merge much with Charlie Lee (LITECOIN), and put the MINING FUNCTIONS TOGETHER, as was suggested brilliantly by Charlie at the recent SF DOGECOIN CONFERENCE!...
So, the solution from our leader, Jackson Palmer... is to flip a coin and hop, in some "weird wacky way", the coin lands on its side ... much randomness! Where is the leadership? Where is the vision? Who is setting solid goals and directions? Obviously, not Jackson. His answer: "...let the community figure it out."
I also want to take a DOGE VOYAGE and go to the moon ... it takes MONEY! It takes PROFIT! Investors want to make MONEY. Fiat currency is DEAD and America is going broke. It takes more than fun and party games to be able to survive the collapse of Western Economic Imperialism. There are 49 million U.S. citizens on food stamps! They want money or digital currency or potatoes (or whatever!) to live on... day to day. Doge digital currency is a way for us to "early adopt and adapt" and ride the financial gravity wave to the moon! However, it takes financial engineering, investments (money), leadership, etc. It sounds like Jackson may be much-out-of-touch... so-investment negative... very-ostrich... wow • 26 minutes ago You would not be able to get sup 200sat Dogecoins if you not near a Computer or already have them if an announcement is made to merge mine with Litecoin. Cryptsy probably would crash and sell out of coins, initially. Srcypt ASIC companies would have record orders to deal with. Trente Judge Crypto • 4 hours ago I believe Palmer is doing a pretty good job of scaring away fiat holders, all on his own.

heyyyy is doge dead? I understand that price is going down and the enthusiasm is also down but really , If doge would be dead I think that we can count with the finger of one hand the coins that are alive. As for the mining , I doubt somebody will attack the coin. Why? There is actually no reasons and people who invest 5 million in mining gear will think twice what they have to earn and what they lose by turning their gear towards doge and fork it.

As soon as doge is the most profitable coin, it will be mined by ASIC farms and multipools and then dumped on the exchanges making it not profitable again. So I think it's about time for the DEV's to really think about capping the coin as it was introduced in the first place, maybe change the PoW algo, and hey, why not also implement PoS? Of course that would need a hard fork, but it's possible without problems.
Do not let such a great thing as doge just slowly die...

Actually doge was never capped , it was a mistake done by the dev which he realized only after a month and decided not to patch it but to go on with it , since it was a joke coin anyhow. And there is no hardfork without problems , especially when the coin is that distributed and daily used like doge.

What you mentioned is already happening. The good thing with doge is that it has a huge community to support it. Thats what makes it have a future for me. But if you think about it twice, changing the algo os the PoW sceme it would even have a negative effect. Do you think that the price of it would be the same if anyone with a computer was able to mine?

The block reward would stay the same, and if it switched to PoS, only actual Doge-holders would get the new doges, so there are more chances that they'll keep them. Is there a variable I've forgotten?

because it's a shit coin. HUC covers everything and know devs. Gentlemen, please bring your petty rivalry outside. It seems to me like the price drop and the fear about technical aspects of the coin might be a good thing, since it seems to scare traditionnal crypto-speculators who have nothing to bring to Dogecoin other than their hunger for easy profits.
