Is this restricted by user location or was it another prank? I can't get any options to pay in doge no matter what. Can't go back to the website since I'm at work, but I did see the option available on my browser, so it's not a prank. They use (used?) GoCoin for payment processing.

It's right there on their Join Now page from the main website (from within the US). Not a prank.

Happy halving day to all! It should come in less than one hour So we can get half way to the moon? Seriously, it seems like dogecoin could have taken more time to create so many coins, but it does make for a fascinating experiment. I don't use Reddit much (yet) is the DOGE group still going strong?

Seriously, it seems like dogecoin could have taken more time to create so many coins, but it does make for a fascinating experiment. I don't use Reddit much (yet) is the DOGE group still going strong? Yes it was quite interesting lately, with a good balance between light-hearted fun and intelligent analysis. Here's a post called "Confession of a Bitcoiner", where he relates how Dogecoin reminds him of the early, idealist, days of Bitcoin: http://www.reddit.com/r/dogecoin/comments/2ansdj/of_wolves_and_weasels_day_187_guest_post/I agree about this being a fascinating experiment Since this was based on a meme, it was unlikely to stay viable in the long-term if everything about it was not happening 10x faster than the other coins

Doge has halved. One more step toward ending our period of hyperinflation. Congrats to user 2111411800 @ Hashfaster for finding block 300,000 (and sharing it with me)

Any news on Dogecoin future strategy to stay viable?
This thread has really died down over the past few months and it's almost as hard keeping up with the /r/dogecoin as it is the Darkcoin thread here on bitcointalk

Do you know there is/was an active discussion about a major change to POS code instead of the current POW? That is the biggest recent "news", unless I missed something bigger.

I am not convinced that changing to PoS is a winning strategy. Dogecoin would no longer be a commodity asset and would go head to head with Ripple.

If done correctly, PoS is the best way to add value. Look at Plankton (FOOD). It was a textbook PoS launch and has gained 2000% in value in a few days and isn't even on the big exchanges yet.

Imho, PoS would be better for the community, since all the new doges will actually go to dogecoin users, rather than random miners who instantly trade for other coins. I don't believe it would change in any way how dogecoin users uses their coin.

Seems like people have come to their senses at last.

Remember, many young shibes have not even completed secondary education. Most hardly have a clue about how the fiat in their pocket works much less a new and developing crypto. The doge community has done a great job of educating its members and tempering the unrealistic expectations while not destroying the sense of optimism and goodwill at its foundation. The things that don't kill us make us stronger and the last few weeks have beat the Doge community into a stronger group.
