Doge is not dying but things have slowed down for Doge and for many other coins.
It slowed down because nearly 87 BILLION coins were mined in 7 months! That's the only reason. The community, with nearly 88000 (!) members only on Reddit, and the devs are working harder than ever before and when the high inflation stops in January 2015 ... lift off That averages to 1 million per. Not so good. ASIC is death for alts.

Does it occasionally take a long time for a transaction to confirm? It's been over 24 hours and a transaction of mine is sitting at only 6 peers.
Usually not, but it can happen if you paid no transaction fees. I paid the 1. Does it also depend on the size of the transaction? This one was roughly 25k bytes in size. The bigger the transaction, the bigger the tx fees should theoretically be. However, I always pay 1 doge and have never had any transfer problem. Could you post the link in dogechain.info to your transaction? I could, IF it was actually on there, but it's not at this point. Have been waiting for it to show up there as I'd then reset the Multidoge blockchain and see if it's just not showing up right in there. Multidoge now says it's up to 8 peers that have seen it. Few more hours and it will have been 48 hours since I initially sent it.

I don't think so. I'm mining coins and mining Dogecoin with a R9 290 OC @E1020/M1500/P20/F90 meant 905 kHs at 350 (!) watts each GPU. Now I'm mining Dogecoin with an ASIC at 1300 KHs at 40 watts till the KnC Titans arrive. Why do you think ASICs caused more damage? Energy isn't for free!

Your losing money if you pay standard rate for electric on that GPU. AsIC's produce to much too cheaply. the price was set at equilibrium with the cost Of GPU mining.

Today marks an important day in the history of Dogecoin. We are here to announce that we will enable the Dogecoin blockchain to accept auxiliary proof of work from other Scrypt chains. As you all know, we've been looking into a lot of options. AuxPoW has been on the table for quite some time now and has been recently again discussed at length. We have also discussed many other options, some of them which are still highly theoretical, or just deemed to be in Alpha state. We didn't see them as viable for that exact reason. AuxPoW has been around in the crypto space for quite a while now. Our topmost priority has always been to provide a stable platform for the currency and its services and of course its users. We hope that with AuxPoW we can achieve that in a better way than what it currently is like. Our hashrate has been on a decline and we hope that we can gain more of it with the acceptance of proof of work from other chains. Yes, this does mean that we are going to fork. The exact switchover is yet to be determined but will happen sooner than later. This post is here to announce it early enough for everyone to prepare for the update. The code is currently in the late testing stage and we are working on ironing out the last small issues. We will also push a new branch to the [Github repo]( https://github.com/dogecoin/dogecoin) called `1.8-dev` which has the AuxPoW switch on the testnet set for block 158,100 (Tomorrow 6:30 GMT). The updated branch will be available later today, so keep an eye on the repo if you're interested. This will be done to help pool operators test the mining on the AuxPoW enabled chain in preperation of the switch on the main chain. If you know how to compile the client, then you can certainly help us by trying it out and even mine a bit with a few KH on the testnet. What you need to know, if you already have the testnet chain synced, is to start the client with `-reindex` the first time you run 1.8. This should be automated for the final so the transition will be as smooth as possible. What this does not mean is that we're tying us to Litecoin. What we do is accepting Proof of Work from their miners if they happen to hit our difficulty target. But that is technical background stuff, which was explained several times before here. On that note, and I'm no economist, I also don't see that have any negative effect on the price, considering the amount of "dumped" coins would probably not change. Also, you as miners are not forced to mine Litecoin to get Dogecoin now. You can still mine at your current pools directly to the Dogecoin network. The Android wallet and Multidoge will receive an update if needed. I'll have to dig into this now Please stay tuned for any updates. We'll be pushing them through all the channels. Thanks everyone for their continued support! -langer_hans More on reddit here: http://www.reddit.com/r/dogecoin/comments/2ci90m/dogecoin_to_enable_auxpow_soon_all_infos_inside/

Litecoin? If their pools implement it, it has the potential of bringing the security of about 95% of the total scrypt hashrate to Dogecoin. Much thanks to all devs

But can anyone clarify, does it mean that Doge will be merge-minable? I understand that you can still mine Doge/LTC directly, but if the pool enables AuxPow is it possible to mine both at the same time?

I think it`s not the right time to complain The switch to merge mining shows that devs are working on the future of doge.

I think it`s not the right time to complain The switch to merge mining shows that devs are working on the future of doge. So not agreeing is considered complaining now? This would have been great 2 months ago but it is too late right now to make a turn around IMO. It should allow the coin to maintain it's current position once there are some piggybackers. It's a shame the DEV's had less foresight then just about every other coin out there. This coin has the best community (except noble in my opinion:which is too small) and should be able to maintain for years to come. I just can't see this as being a move towards growth. I really have no faith in the DEVS. But I am still a bag holder because of the community.

Doge broke out of the quiet period to the downside: This is when we separate the adults from the puppies. Are you buying (looking for the certain bounce up) or tucking in your tail and running away?

I think it`s not the right time to complain The switch to merge mining shows that devs are working on the future of doge. They are too late. I was telling this to Jackson months prior to C. Lee gave his 2 cents. GTFO while you still can. No offense to you DOGE holders, but hell... you are holding it for fun anyways who cares what the market is! For those of you who do care... I would say cut your losses and run.
