It is something that many investors are surely gains profits when ethereum price kicks hard high. But the main reason for it, is that compared ethereum to bitcoin, ethereum is way more easy to use than bitcoin. In terms of transaction fees, ethereum wins. In terms of transaction speed, also ethereum wins. And also ethereum uses a feature called smart contracts that is beneficiary to those new launched ico.

Mostly people want ethereum to over come bitcoin because they have this own portfolio in there wallet,and mostly some new upcoming  ICO developer now prepared to exchange in ethereum because its easy to trade in ethereum platform,because its only a crypto coins that  contains an ERC-20,that easy to trade in another kind of altcoins,thats why many investor now are supported in ethereum crypto.

In my honest opinion about your question, Ethereum has low transaction fees and has faster transfer compare to Bitcoin (despite if the network is clogging). Ethereum is popular for being the host of most initial coin offerings that are running in the market from the past, present and future. ERC20 tokens are the gateway for making Ethereum popular. As for Bitcoin, no matter if transactions are slow, they are still at thr top because of being the gateway in converting crypto to fiat currency.

People who are in this business of crypto from very early time they earn BTC and they know value of BTC, now newbies want to get profit like BTC so they are making propaganda for this new coin which never came near to BTC, it just empty advertisement of a minor coin.

Ethereum really is a great coin despite how a lot of people bash it. It clearly has the vision and the hard work of its developers, and we cannot deny that most of the people who has hit it big with cryptos had great profits using the ethereum blockchain. And yes, it has been a great vessel to make some of the great erc20 coins today. So yeah, aside from huge gains, I think those are few of all the reasons why some people want ethereum to become bitcoin. But honestly, I think there are a bunch of coins out there that are a whole lot more better than ethereum and deserve the seat next to bitcoins.
