To me, altcoin is not reducing the increase in unemployment, because the phrase "reducing unemployment" is a bit unhealthy. Almost average altcoin participants are great people who choose the right activity. Regarding the benefits, there are so many advantages that we get from altcoin, one of them as you mention giving money individually in maintaining basic needs, even more than that I gain from altcoin.

Judging by the title, I thought maybe you meant what advantages do altcoins have to bitcoin.  

The biggest advantage is that although altcoin investment is more risky, but if you know what the hell you're doing you can have better profit than BTC investment. Also, with altcoins you get to be with a good project since first days (it's like investing in bitcoin in 2009-2010). You get to become a member of some good communities (yeah, some of them really do have good communities), and if you're patient enough you all get profit together. Sometimes you can even have direct access to the team members (you don't get that with btc or gold). LoL
