Holding is one of the best thing you can do right now because the bitcoin is gonna rise, what is already mentioned here in the above topic.
I really think there is a good chance that bitcoin is going to a higher amount.
Holding is quite a selfish thing to do, though. If you circulate bitcoins around (instead of freezing a small amount of the market) you'll spread demand more, and it could also potentially allow for more awareness in the bitcoin community. That, in turn, could bring forth more people to bitcoin, which would increase demand and slowly drive the price upward. Though you can hold, you should also remember to spend at least some thereof.

If everyone held their coins until the end of time, where would the demand go?

Are you holding for your retirement? It seems a very far event, and I don't know if bitcoin will exist then. Remember that we can't foresee the exiting surprises that advanced technologies will bring in the future,  but it may come something that beat the current bitcoin supremacy.

Well, I also save a lot of my coins for when I am retiring. There are only 2 outcomes possible.

1 - Bitcoin will be worth a lot in the far future.
2 - Bitcoin will be worth next to nothing in the far future.

I aim for the first option obviously.

The problem is that perhaps in that time, the bitcoin price will fall due to another, better, cryptocurrency that may catch on. Besides, if the bitcoin community grows then so too will the altcoin community. And perhaps there someone will find a gem that will begin to sprout and grow into something that garners a lot of support, even moreso than bitcoin. That... or it gets pumped and dumped.

I'm not too worried about other altcoins coming close to Bitcoin to take over its spot. I am more worried about what policies governments and banks will throw at us the coming years.

The table is already set regarding the political policies and bank influence, you have the QE, debt, fixed rates (not market but dictated) and now extreme measures such as negative rates so you are charged to use money.  This all the opposite of capitalism I believe, just on a very simple level that capital is held by people not centrally controlled.   Everything I listed requires a tight leash to control, its opposite to freedom and power/capital with the people.   I hope it ends well but it seems not likely just by the past

Well, mainly, it'll be about the governments. We can still exchange our bitcoins using online payment methods or locally with cash. If the governments put down a law relating to bitcoin trading for whatever reason, then that'll really put damage the community. But, let us not forget about Silk Road and other illicit sites that use bitcoin as their primary currency. [I'm not saying Silk Road was used purely for criminal activities, but it's just an example]

Silk Road was still extremely popular. Extremely. Popular. And OpenBazaar is there as well.

Extremely popular but relative to the wider world it was nothing though.   I want to see bitcoin challenge dollar and mainstream currencies, arent we setting the bar a bit low.   I always dislike people describing just one site as setting a trend for bitcoin, its way more then that or at least I hope Im right in thinking so.  Maybe Im wrong its just a token system used between some sites for a while and we'll move on to more adaptable durable means of value transfer, that would be sad

Well the best aspect of bitcoin was the fact that it introduced blockchain technology. I think the real gem in the community and what it should be renowned for. It doesn't matter too much about the negative publicity about bitcoin, but if it allows blockchain usage to become much more popular, then at least something great would have come from it. I've seen this one idea start to become initialized: storj.io where cloud storage has a blockchain system and using users to help store one person's files working with it.

"I'm also holding because I think the bitcoin is gonna rise to a higher amount for sure, I really have the feeling the bitcoins is also gonna get a lot bigger if this happen.
A lot of people are now holding their bitcoin because a lot of people also know its gonna be a good time for the bitcoin this year.
This year will not not be boring at all for the bitcoin, I really have no doubt about that with the halving that is coming."

Why do most posts lately sound just like this dribble? is this a fucking moron, someone who barely has a grasp on the english language, someone trolling for jollies, or simply a spamming bot?
Also, to the original poster: update to satisfy our curiosity, please tell me you reconsidered and didn't hodl till now.

Most Bitcoin users are making use of this tactic but we cannot predict the future so we will not know what Bitcoin is going to be like and what the price is going to be. It is a gamble that these people are taking.
Waiting will be not that bad and as you know you also never know what the value will be of Bitcoin so you need also to take the risk if you want to sell it or buy it and that can be also bad for you.
Because you also never know when the right moment will be to sell or buy it because you dont know what is going to happen.

people nowadays don't take the effort to write something they come up with, and thus they just browse through this thread and somewhat copy other posts and slightly rephrase it to make it look like it isn't copied.

The most people with some smart minds are now indeed holding because you see that the value is not even that high now so it would be sin if you are selling it now.And that is bad because you wont get much money for it and that is the problem.

We all have to hold the bitcoin right now because that is the best thing we can do.

It would be of course smart that you are holding because the value is now not even that high now of Bitcoin so it would be better that you are going to sell it later in the future.
And the halving is coming but the most people are thinking that the value will not even rise and that can be bad for the most people.

Anything is possible at halving, either we will see price rise or price fall,no one is sure about what will be the exact scenario at the time of halving,  but its better to hold till that time.

That's correct, we might see best price anytime in coming months, as price has started to rise now so holding for next couple of months can be more profitable.
