I'm looking to use a non-PC power supply, with regulated high current 12v DC.
Does anyone know (from measurements, specs) what the DC Current draw of the Antminer S1 is?  (Standard or overclocked?)

Is 12.0v the ideal input voltage, or would it prefer 13.5v DC?
(Is there a DC-to-DC converter in the unit, or does it need 12.0v?)

Well P = V * I

So (roughly)

(stock)
360 = 12 * I
I=360/12
I = 30 amps

(overclocked)
430 = 12 * I
I=430/12
I=35.8 amps

Quote
Do all S1 units need a total of six positive leads and six ground leads (for screw terminals)?  I want to have the wiring ready for arrival.

The terminal blocks have three leads per polarity on each blade. So you will need a total of 3 for positive and 3 for negative for each blade.

They now have the pci-e 6-pin plugs which if you have some spare extender cables to sacrifice is a much better way to fly. you need two per unit (one per blade).

Does the Antminer shipping in March need a PSU? If so, will something like this do the trick: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817139058 ?

Thanks!

The PSU you've linked will not work because it is 1 x 6+2 pci-e connectors. You need at least two to run 1 antminer S1.

What he said!!  Wink

Your PSU needs to 2 separate PCIE cables to run each Antminer,preferablly a single rail as well,like this:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817116019

DO NOT RUN ON 2 CONNECTORS ON THE SAME CABLE!!!!  Wink

can someone explain to me .. as a noob .. all the rage over the equipment and prices?  any math i do, these WILL NOT ROI at current price (speaking strictly btc)..

assuming 20% increase in rate and no electricity cost what so ever each ant will profit .2 btc total over 120 days

 i understand with the bitcoin price dropping by 50% makes it easier for new miners to enter the space on the current fiat to bitcoin rate but why do so people still buy them if they will never earn back the btc they invested from mining?

1.  They dont have to earn the whole investment back, they can earn part of it back and resell for value later.

2.  There are no other machines out there that give better performance (hashrate) for the money.

1... resell what for value later?  the equipment that costs $80 per month in electricity and makes $12.50 (random number)? or are we talking about running half the lifespan and reselling on ebay or cl to people that dont know value/princing/direct source?

2... this i agree with 100%.. these are the best performers but the fastest and best performing equipment whether shipped or "preordered" (haha) seem to ALL NOT MAKE ROI AT CURRENT BTC COST

please HELP ME BE SMART.  i have 4 ants delivered jan 6.  I WILL ROI.. BUT I WANT MORE

THUS,

i want more ants but morons are buying and not allowing market to control price

if bought now at 1.4 btc current mining income after 10 cycles / 120 days with FREE electric is 1.55 btc

this assumes free electricity.. each oc'd ant draws 440 WATTS EACH for me, not cheap
this assumes 20% diff increase.. which is LOWER THAN SEEN

i want ants at 1 BTC NOW! :-)

if im wrong with my math please feel free to correct

Run only half the lifespan.  Sell on #Bay  LOL

The reason no equipment makes ROI is because all the manufacturers mine for themselves and only sell when they make enough and then they still sell at PRICE that looks close that we can make some ROI back.  What other choice do we have to buy equipment???

Hypothetical numbers:

Avalon      >>>>   6  PetaHash+

AsicMiner    >>>   2-4?

KNC              >>>>  8-10 PH?

BitFury          >>>>   5-8?

BFL, Cointerra, HashFast  >>>  ?

New Company    >>   6,000 Ant Farm >>1 PH+

IM AFRAID STARBREAKER IS ON TARGET, unless you like to mine for fun, or are quick to hustle.

so as a hero member.. are you also advising new visitors to this thread not to buy antminers at the current inflated miner prices (1.4 btc) as they will never make their investment back.. and by not buying they may help get a fair price for the overvalued equipment market?

i can give you an advice.

don't mine bitcoins.

I am ready to order these once the price drops.
At 1.45 + PSUs, I am not even sure if they will break-even.

Next machines need to be in the Th/s range.  Mining tech needs the next leap forward, otherwise retail hardware is dead and producers are just going to mine for themselves.
