Dear Mooncoin community,
KlondikeBear has asked me to look into the security of the MOON wallet and the recent coin thefts.
These are the results and conclusions from my analysis so far:
1) The original wallet source code looks ok.
https://github.com/realmooncoin/mooncoin.gitThere are no changes to the source code that would weaken the security.
2) Coin thefts
Judging from the wallet source code review, I don't think that the security of the Mooncoin wallet is broken.
Thus the coin thefts must be attributed to a combination of carelessness, wallet stealers, key-loggers, and other malware.
If there would be a weakness in the litecoin based wallets, then likely litecoin would be the first target and not mooncoin.
The thefts were not systematic and also not well timed wrt to the coin value.
This fact also points towards malware infected machines rather than issues with the wallet itself.
These are my conclusions under the assumption that everyone is telling the truth in the material that has been presented to me.
