I have 0.8.6 Wallet (on Win 8 x64) and I added the following to the bitcoin.conf as instructed

rpcuser=rpc
rpcpassword=xxxxxxxxxx
server=1
daemon=1
txindex=1

Started qt with the --reindex option. It took a long time and finally finished. I closed qt and opened it again and it gives me "Corrupted block database detected" - so I accepted rebuilding the block database. Once this finished I once again closed the client and opened to check - and it gives me the same error. Not sure what to do as the black chain now is a humungus 17gb and I really want to participate in burning in some XCP (also not confident of using blockchain,info to burn).

I also tried setting the checkpoint=2 in the bitcoin.conf but does not seem to work. I tried the 0.8.5 client as well. I removed the txindex=1 and tried just to be sure. But no luck so far.

The only other thing I was run the counterpartyd_build (after downloading the necessary dependencies). I tried to run the server command line but I had not configured the counterpartyd conf correctly so that crashed.

Can someone please help me to
1. Open my wallet and solve the corrupted block problem. My coins are stuck in that. I am dreading having to either download the block from scratch or reindex
2. Help me burn. Any option other than counterpartyd_build or blockchain.info right now?

What's wrong with block chain info.  I burned 10 btc flawlessly.

Quick question, if I burn from blockchain wallet, how can I check my XCP balance ? Where would be my XCP wallet ? is there any private key ?
I have a mac and I have no choice than burning using blockchain wallet.

(I'm not an expert, so correct me if I'm wrong)

Type your associated BTC address (the one you've burned the BTC with) on http://www.blockscan.com/ in the top right corner and it should display your balance.
As long as you have the BTC address private key, you'll be able to control the XCP associated with this address. That means you don't have to keep another backup than the one you (hopefully) already have for the BTC address of your Blockchain.info wallet.

I think that at the moment you can only transfer XCP with bitcoind/counterpartyd, but I guess that if the project is successful, more "noob"friendly interfaces will be developped.

What's wrong with block chain info.  I burned 10 btc flawlessly.

1. As I have stated before, I am not confident and the documentation states that if it is not done correctly then it is worthless. I have a lot less to burn but it certainly means as much to me so I need to be sure I am doing it correctly.
2. Secondly all my coins are stuck in a wallet that I cannot open because the block chain is corrupted.
3. Counterpartyd is the preferred way according to the documentation and I wanted to take the safest option.

Is it enough confirmation to see the bitcoin has been received @ this address 1CounterpartyXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXUWLpVr when done through blockchain.info?

No, that's not necessarily proof of burn. It would be best to check your address using counterpartyd or blockscan.com.
If you feel unsafe burning yourself you can use my escrow burn service:

How long does it take to see XCP at the addressed used for burning?

I could test this process by burning 0.01 BTC and check.

blockscan.com is pretty quick, as soon as it catches up with the latest block you'll be able to see your balance. Should not take more than 15 minutes or so.

So I saw the value could be zero... For xcp. Is there any info or prospects that show this xcp to do the opposite and grow nicely

You need at least 1 confirmed Bitcoin block for the balance to appear in Counterparty (and BlockScan).

While I have not personally used his service, if you have any reservations on burning XCP maxmint offers a burning service that takes the risk of an incorrect burn

Yes, there is always a risk that the value could be zero or at the very least below your purchase price... Only time will tell.

And the risk increases exponentially when you have more people burning coins solely for the sake of profiting    Smiley

Given the large amount of liquidity I would personally not expect any kind of immediate price rally (i.e ala NXT or Mastercoin style) nor extensive price manipulation due to the float.

Cheers

IMO Any real value will only be realized once a user friendly client is out that allows you to buy and sell instruments. Once that's ironed out, I expect decent ROI. I don't know how far down the line we are with something like that but I am guessing that's a few months away.

No consider the competitors, mainly mastercoin dex and colored coin, if a decent client was a few months away, this project is almost dead. The client has to be ready just weeks after the last burn day.

+1, and that exactly why we all need to push the devs via XCP donations, otherwise we may all risk burning BTC's for nothing.

I for one, just waiting for an easy way to send XCP's (webwallet, rather then using counterparty and bitcoinQT), so I could donate.

I'd be interested to know if this IPO has been to successful for the Dev team? i.e. diluted their stake more than initially predicted?

You need a local wallet and import the private key. You would still need to get counterparty to do anything with it. I guess in future we will get a simple GUI Counterparty wallet in which you can import your private key.

I have installed counterpartyd and burned BTC a few days back; but I still can't check the balance locally or send. I am using Windows 7 32 bit - any tips?

It will dillute profits a bit, but at least we know there is alot of people who have vested interest that this protocol succeeds.

I think as soon as we get user friendly GUI, this project will explode.
