I had idea like this (human minable coin combined with "traditional" mining) - but it seems you made it much better than I imagined. And I see this just as beginning. Maybe there will be new branch of cryptos - connected with games.

Is there in game purchases?(This could fund development?) I wanna upgrade my armor or buy a grenade that falls out on my death that kills everything in a 10x10 radius!

no, not in huntercoin.

Huntercoin is a Crypto Currency with human mining (that should hopefully be fun too). .. And needs to be Fair. The only advantage over other players you can have is by collecting hearts (to control more Hunters with one name) or by working as a team.

The "game" (albeit simple) will be very slow... a lot of time and effort will be needed to harvest significant amount of coins from inside "Chronosius" (the other dimension). Smiley

What if the upgrades were purely cosmetic and did nothing to change the rate at which you mined? Just throwing out ideas.

But in the "game" you're mining alone, right? this isn't going to devolve into some PvP thing where people just jack other people's coins?

Huntercoin mechanics won't change now.. It was supposed to be much more simple than it is now. One giant flat map (black and white) with red and blue squares... initially to test the concept for Chronokings. --- but, we went into the rabbit hole and have only just managed to escape - for now, we need to see how Huntercoin copes with many players, dual algo and other things.. (otherwise we could waste a lot more time and $).
Which is why Huntercoin is a Crypto Currency with Human Mining Concept.

Check Chronokings, this will be a fully featured mmo  https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=262599.0

In the "game" world, you are mining with other people... 4 Colours.
You can prevent them from banking their coins by killing them, and then stealing the coins they drop on the ground.
Yes, it is PvP, and you will probably need to work as a team, or avoid other "miners"

Is it really wise to release a SHA256 coin? It will be saturated with ASICs which will push CPU miners away from this coin.
You have Scrypt, so GPU/FPGA miners are covered. And those who are lucky enough to own some block erupters or an ASIC are covered. It seems CPU miners will be shit out of luck with this coin.

That being said, I would like to help test the client. Are you still running the beta test?
Edit: I see that you are not.

CPU miners are useless at scrypt and sha256 anyway (except probably for the first couple of thousand blocks probably).. i suppose we could do triple algo ..
It is both SHA256 + Scrypt AND Merge mineable -- people mining Bitcoin or Litecoin, can also mine huntercoin for free (if their pool supports it, or if they use P2Pool).

By including both Algos a wider range of miners can mine, especially with merge mining also.

I think for any new coin to have a chance long term, it needs merge mining.. and there are no merge mine-able cpu coins (also, merge mining coins is beneficial to the coins it is merged mined with.. example BTC and LTC).

I know what you are saying tho.. maybe you have a lot of CPUs or VPS.. unfortunately will be no good for Huntercoin... but remember that 80% or so of the coins will come from inside the world, so you don't need any hardware (hardly).

note: The original purpose of Dual algo, was to try to prevent mining pools controlling the speed/rate of the game --e.g. if a large merge mining pool stops mining on purpose to slow dow the game while they have a break or something (or crashes), then the blocks will keep ticking by the miners of the other algo.. so slowdown won't be so great.... it also has some other advantages but the main reason was that (even though may not solve the issue completely)

CPU mining nowadays is pretty much out of the question anyway, 99% of CPU-minable coins get thumped by large botnets.

SHA-256... pretty susceptible to somebody just pointing a huge rig at the coin and getting a lot of % of net hashrate. Not sure if that's still the case if you combine it with Scrypt.

So, a couple more questions:

1. I'm pretty intrigued by the merged aspect of this coin. But how will it be set up (in broad terms)? Will it be proportional? Meaning the SHA side of things nets less coins due to the sheer hashing power, i.e. SHA blocks net you 1 coin, SCRYPT nets 10, the game nets X or. Or is it a level starting line for SHA/Scrypt but the difficulty is different? OR is it just a level playing field across the board?

2. If it's got a PvP aspect how will you ensure that it doesn't just become roaming mobs taking the small miners coins all the time?

3. Can this also turn into a WOW thing where there are hundreds of people in some guild somewhere just mining the coins?

1. If sha256 has a lot of hashing power, it will eventually still target 2minute blocks.. so it's an even field really.. it may be that if there is a lot more sha256 at the start then scrypt miners may not get a block in.. then scrypt difficulty will decrease (while sha256 gets more difficult)... if that makes sense? -- basically is level playing field... but maybe there will be some weird oscillations .. it is also an experiment in itself. Merged mining doesn't really come into play here, it's just the same as merge mining namecoin when you merge mine the sha256 huntercoin (or United Scrypt Coin for scrypt).

2. They might.. people will need to rebel or create an army or work as a team to prevent this sort of thing... or, you could make the same colour hunter as the "baddies" and leech harvest areas.. although they may have other colours to prevent this sort of thing.. still, it's an experiment

3. Yes - but we'll see Smiley ---- Guilds/Groups could be sort of considered similar to pools. There could be a Guild(business boss?) which creates a reward address for all it's members.. then at the end of the week the guild pays out to the players proprtional to how much coins they mined (minus some percentage).. or, maybe some players don't mine, they just protect... or some are on the offensive.
