We can only hope Blender logs here again, see the amount of people with coins stuck and puts the website back again (in case he didn’t wipe the servers already). It’s pretty clear that 2 1/2 days was not enough. :/

Yes it was truely the shortest notice. It seems that he has good agenda so guess that he will open the website at least one more with longer notice or send out coins because there will be a shitstorm to follow if he wipe servers and keeping the coins himself. Thats a kind of thieft because he could have stored the account info to verify manually after shutdown and send people straight coins. Right?

Follow your bitblender deposit addresses specified in the signed letter you saved on tails persistent storage. Or look in the wallet you sent coins from.  The coins sent to my bitblender input address were moved to an address with over 100 inputs totalling almost 11 BTC, all unspent.

An earlier bitblender deposit was combined with about 100 inputs totalling around 10 BTC and sent to many addresses in a bunch of steps, with the unspent change of 2.99993936 BTC ending up in 3Qth9HPoeMjbVx3BZY1Drb8RxsbZuFj4vf at 2019-05-28 20:20. Watch that address to see if it gets spent. I'm sure LE is watching it; they know it the same way I know it. I expect it will never be spent.

If I were operating bitblender and knew LE was coming soon, I'd wipe the servers erasing everything including the BTC private keys. Of course LE has been sending coins through bitblender so they know the addresses where all the incoming deposits were aggregated. So if they catch you with those keys, they can prove you are the operator. Or if they catch you with the secret Tor uses to identify bitblendervrfkzr. So I expect the operator no longer knows those secrets, and hence can't bring bitblendervrfkzr back up and can't send your coins anywhere. If so, the coins have been destroyed.

It makes no sense to destroy private keys at all. If the funds were kept in a LE-"unsecure environment" he could, as you suggested, move all the coins to a new adress he generated somewhere safely/offline, then destroy/remove the server in which the "unsecure" keys and adresses were stored, and still keep the funds.

Then he could either mix those funds using coinjoin, wasabi, monero, chipmixer, or simply wait until a provably-fair "privacy"-provider mixer comes into the market.

Probably not. They never disclosed any email or form of contact other than their website support and this account. The website is down, and they haven't logged in here since May 31th. Y'all are in a bad spot in here. :/

in the light of what's happening in the mixer scene it seems to me the time of centralized mixer services had come to an end.

Sorry, its just a fact that second layer privacy will NEVER EVER compare to first layer and there is too much mis-information about that being spread about.

People put themselves at risk trusting incorrect information, in some parts of the world these can literally be life and death. I would never use Wasabi if I had Monero as a choice the two are not comparable. Wasabi is better than nothing but it will not save you if TPTB (wherever you live) are looking at you. Actually I doubt anything is safe if TPTB are looking at you in the 5 eyes.

Shouldn't people just start using GRIN instead and be done with the mixing services?
I suppose it's not as helpful as mixing services because there are cases when you just want to send BTC and nothing else, but overall GRIN has many advantages,
A) You don't need to trust a 3rd party (the mixing service) to send anonymously.
B) It's even more anonymous than mixing services since you can transact without even having a public address, but instead by exchanging a transaction file with the other party *.
C) There are no fees to be pay in a 3rd party and even the network fees are very low.

I guess it's still a bit too complicated to use GRIN, but hopefully this will change soon in order to provide people who want anonymity so badly with a great alternative to mixing.

I'm curious why people are still using this service when it seems pretty clear that it doesn't work. Is your mixer different than others in some way or did a university student just ruin your entire industry?

The thesis is from December 2017, I read it a long time ago and it does not mention Bitcoin Blender, they attack Coinmixer.se, not Bitcoin Blender.

The attack it describes requires that the mixer publicly publishes statistics on how many mixer transactions they have done over the last week (which I don't)
"In all mentioned attacking scenarios, we assume that the attacker is able to retrieve publicly accessible statistics which may be published through the centralized mixing service."

It then mentions some other flaws of Coinmixer.se necessary to identify their transactions, the most important was that they used a static transaction fee for all withdraws, on Bitcoin Blender each withdraw sent have a randomized transaction fee.

Coinmixer.se also always set a locktime of the current block on their transactions, on Bitcoin Blender it is randomized if locktime is set on transactions or not.
Further Bitcoin Blender also randomizes if RBF is to be set on the transactions sent.

Oh yeah. How's that working out now? Obvious scam is obvious. Sorry to hear people have lost money on this.

DYOR, I am not shilling. I don't care if you believe me or not. Infrastructure alone without even getting into the technicals (of which I am not an expert on the cryptography) is reason enough. The future is bright for Grin by all accounts but it is just that, the future and until that materializes (if it does) there is Monero for fungability and BTC for everything else. One issue I understand with grin is that it depends on nodes deleting transactions yet how can you enforce that and verify it?

What I've figured out thus far is that nodes can choose to delete transactions or not. This isn't so much a privacy factor, but instead it's meant for scalability. Dandelion is what actually makes the transaction more private if I'm not mistaken.

I hope that everybody finds a decentralized way to obfuscate their funds in the future. Wasabi has some good solutions for privacy and Samourai is working on some great stuff as well.
