Although the process of adoption is going slower than we'd like, you are absolutely right in that that much wider adoption is on its way. I think it all started when bitcoin surprisingly reached a very surreal value which made a great noise all over the world as it made many people rich in an instant. We cannot really say that it is trending everywhere instead we should generalize it since it really is a hot topic among plenty of country around the world right now.
