Launched:
 10:00AM EST 23 Feb 2014
(15:00PM UTC 23 Feb 2014)

Do you want to watch a movie for free?
Do you want to be a movie producer?
Do you want your stories turn into a movie?
Do you want to become one of the movie investors?
Moviecoin would be the standard payment term for online videos/movies around the world.
Come on! Join the Moviecoin!

Bitcoin MOVIE IPO:
First movie about cryptocoin/bitcoin by ourselves!
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=504777.0

Why moviecoin:

There is still a long way for bitcoin entering our real life.
Compared with most of other altcoins which are just coins without any meaning, Moviecoin attempts from a smaller but interesting place--the movie world, and hoping to be the standard coin of it.

There are lots of potential use cases of moviecoin:
Standard coin among movie websites/communities/stores
CD/DVD/Poster trading
Online movies
Fans' activities
Film voting
Cinema tickets
File producer
Movie investors

...

flat vs moviecoin:

Moviecoin is safer and can finish the payment easier. A simple example from our website:
If you want to watch some online VIP movies/videos oversea, it's really inconvenient pay for them. Usually a credit card must be used which is unsafe and your personal information would be in risk. Moviecoin would change this situation and make people can enjoy excellent movies easier and faster around the world!

Moviecoin vs bitcoin:

Yes, bitcoin is the ancestor. But moviecoin is more focus on the movie specific world and would play a more professional role.
It's kind of like we already have gold, but we still use USD/EUR/GBP.

Our enlightening plan:
All of the major online video/film vendors around the world.

More detail will be added to our official website:

www.moviecoin.biz

Stop it! We do not need a coin for every word we have in the dictionary. What is next?

Theater coin?
Swimming pool coin?
Racetrack coin?
Furniture coin?
Supermarket coin?
Food coin?

This does not add value. Stop the bullshit clones! At least add something unique!

There will be exactly 0 cinema's, actors, movie studios etc that will accept this coin.

OP can't even write a decent op.

No, it's not just a simple word from the dictionary.
Our creative is not focus on the technology itself but the industry chain, movie market is a good choice.
That's the biggest difference from other altcoins.
Please thinking outside the technical box.

Things usually difficult from the beginning, but people will change their mind. I'm sure Moviecoin will be accepted someday if we can operate it well.
The film is an art and have vitality, we plan to set up a movie fund to help people with their movie dream whether as a director or an audience.

Why would someone go through the hassle of changing their fiat money into bitcoins, to change into moviecoins to pay for a movie ticket?
Alternatively, why would someone go through the hassle of exchanging their fiat money for moviecoins to pay for a ticket online?

They can just pay for the ticket with fiat money and save time/fees/hassle.

You didn't even think about this.
You fucking losers are just paying coingen.io to make every stupid thing you can think of with no substance and its sickening.

Why would I use this over bitcoin/litecoin/dogecoin? You can use those for the exact same purpose.

We don't need one coin to pay our electricity bill, one coin to pay for groceries, one coin to pay for movies, one coin to pay for porn and one coin to tip people!

Of course we have, it's a long term coin.
Because we only focus on the movie related things, it would be easier put things into effect.

Then why bitcoin/litecoin/dogecoin and so many other altcoins?

bitcoin/litecoin/dogecoin want to enter all kinds of areas, that's their problem.
We only focus on movie related market instead.
Take a more simple example, many film websites/communities have their own virtual coins(usually not crypto based).
It would be good if there is a standard coin among those websites/communities then you don't have to exchange flat money every time.

I would advise you to open a online store for selected countries where the coin can be used to buy online movie tickets. Funding for the project?  You can use IPCO.
Cheers

We already have gotten in touch with several movie forums and stores, there were very interested in our ideas and would like to do some attempts. Further cooperation is in progress but we have to launch moviecoin at first and show our abilities.

I had an idea for a movie industry coin recently, googled it and it didn’t look like anyone was working on anything similar yet. today i just googled it again and came across this thread on the bitcoin forums.

it looks like folks are suggesting that your MovieCoin needs some specific value and not just have a unique name in order to be worthwhile - I’m not claiming you don’t have any specific value in this idea, you just haven’t mentioned any if you do.

I think I have figured the specific incentives that give it value - I could be wrong, but what do you think?

http://forum.ethereum.org/discussion/427/moviecoin-worldwide-secure-distro-of-movies-payment-system-to-connect-contentcreators-audiences

Hey folks - I want to bounce an idea off you. I’m hoping that you all - as seemingly the best minds in the blockchain movement - can point out weaknesses with it, etc and help make it as strong as possible.

I used to work in the post-production industry in Hollywood. I’m also a big fan of torrent-technology. I was often questioned about how I justified this to myself morally as someone who's paycheck relied on healthy industry profits, but I’m sure you all already know the answer: sharing actually makes the industry stronger. Its not that I don’t want to pay for content - it’s that I dislike the limited options in which the content is made available, and that such a tiny portion of my payment goes to the content creators themselves.

The idea: MovieCoin (or something like that)
MovieCoin is a blockchain to allow worldwide secure distribution of visual media (features, TV shows, shorts, etc) and a payment system to connect content-creators with their audience.

How it works:
-MovieCoin uses a streaming bittorrent protocol (http://live.bittorrent.com)
-Miners maintain the security of the distribution network but don’t carry the actual content on the blockchain, just the rights to stream or download a particular title - the files themselves start from a single source and then the bittorrent protocol takes care of the actual sharing (not sure if this is the right way to implement, if someone has a better idea please let me know)
-Crowdfunding - support the films you want to see get made. Pay for a movie you want to see based on the director, cast, content, etc and get rights to stream it when its finished.
-Incentivize more filmmaking (indie films in particular). An ethereum DAO can distribute the earnings from a movie that is made by people doing work for points, ensuring people actually get paid and reducing the legal costs associated with a new corporation being formed (for those that aren’t already aware, currently a new corporation is formed every time a film gets made, but rarely are artists that get ripped off able to enforce the contracts since they can rarely even tell how much revenue an indie generated)
-Theatrical distribution - even movie theaters can get direct feeds rather than shipping around hard drives. This not only creates big fossil fuel savings (and associated costs) but solves the worry of piracy that has made distributors avoid full internet-based distribution to theaters thus far
-Part of the implementation would involve the creation of a “MovieCoin Foundation” that would work to encourage awareness & understanding of how to use MovieCoin and why its a better option. Will interface with studios, content-creators and the general public. (Funded by a premine of some percentage of MovieCoins). Also, will possibly fund a discount to audiences for paying in MovieCoin to incentivize use.
-Capture robust pseudonymous demographic data and meta data.

Why its better for audiences:
-Watch movies and other content the DAY ITS RELEASED in a high quality format from the comfort of home. (Who wouldn’t rather pay to watch in HD with surround sound than a free crap quality cam from Uzbekistan?)
-Less expensive and more eco friendly. Distribution costs would be significantly reduced, allowing audiences to pay less. -Also reduces the negative environmental impact of the distribution process. No DVDs, no shipping, no exploitive labor, etc.
-Watch movies for free: Miners keep the system strong and secure and earn MovieCoins for their efforts. Also opportunities for earning MovieCoin by writing reviews, etc. - as soon as movie ends wallet app gets a push notification -“How’d you like the movie?”
-Makes movies and other content available to a wider audience of people who are hungry for it - for example, in Somalia there is no functioning central government and very very few public theaters, but tons of cell phones and other internet connected digital devices

Why its better for content producers:
-20-40% of internet traffic moves through the bittorrent protocol right now, so there is obviously a demand for earlier home availability of new content.
-Fast, efficient and secure worldwide distribution and direct payments from the content consumers. Less costs, less waste. More secure, more efficient, more financially profitable.
-Access to the marketing data that can be extracted from the moviecoin blockchain - this includes the pseudononymous demographic data attached to the accounts of consumers that watch their content, plus meta data like when the movie is paused most often, how often it gets turned off and never finished, etc. (So much more helpful and accurate than current methods of tracking this data)
-Significantly reduced distribution costs
-Indie content-creators have more direct access to their audience allowing them to earn more money, get funding for projects that people want to see, etc.
-Studio content-creators can stop their loosing battle against piracy, and instead embrace change and make their content available in a form that audiences want to consume it.

I wouldn’t see this kind of system being adopted very quickly - most likely it would take many years for it to be widespread, starting with a few independent films and eventually working up to major studio releases. But I’ve been given the opportunity to present this idea to a bigwig at one of the major studios, and if a big studio got behind the idea right away it could definitely accelerate adoption considerably. However, I’d like to avoid embarrassing myself by either 1) finding out later on about some major hole in my logic - I am not a programmer so if I am assuming something is do-able that simply *isn’t* I’d like to know now and 2) finding out that someone else already came up with this idea and is already running with it.

btw, I'm aware that there are a number of projects are already working on making it easier to distribute digital content - bit-tunes being the most popular i'm aware of - my thinking is just that for them to be widely adopted the content creators and distributors need to have incentive to use them - in this case they would be offered a massive amount of marketing data in exchange for accepting moviecoin, which i think is just the kind of incentive they'd go for

So... ask questions and punch holes please Smiley

Wow! I'm really excited to see so many great ideas with moviecoin.
Thank you for sharing with us!

Although I can't fully understand some of your ideas and have no idea how to implement some of them right now, I still think we have many things in common. Like:
-Crowdfunding
-Incentivize more filmmaking (indie films in particular).
-the creation of a “MovieCoin Foundation”

We are doing some attempts on this way.

Implementing the incentive system I described would need an Ethereum blockchain, so I think you should hold off the release until Ethereum is ready.

Email me, let's talk about combining ideas.

I really do hope that the OP considers the constructive feedback that many of the commenters on this thread left - that without some *specific financial* incentive to accept it, filmmakers and distributors are not going to start using this coin. Just giving it an industry specific name does not create that incentive, nor does allowing crowdfunding, since the industry already has plenty of options for crowdfunding currently.

I believe that including useful "what demographics are watching what" metadata in a blockchain is what would incentivize use - because it reduces the cost of market research and increases it's effectiveness.

That said, your blockchain cannot include this extra data, and thus I worry will not ultimately be successful - we need to wait until Ethereum has been released and build this blockchain on it in order to allow the extra data that needs to be carried.

I do hope that you will cancel your planned release tomorrow - I'm sure that if you do release you will get mining interest just because miners are always looking for new coins to jump on, but I worry that it simply won't last very long and will eventually die out, making building the form of Moviecoin I proposed much more difficult.

PM or email me so we can discuss this. Thanks.

I have a discussion with our team members. We agree many of your ideas, but I can't convince them to cancel our release especially at this time.
We respect your ambitions making movie coin a big deal, but as your said it would take a long time for it to be widerspread. Technically,  it's also not that easy to implement all of your ideas.

So rather than wait a few weeks for the Ethereum blockchain to come out and learn how to use it's turing complete scripting language to write some actually useful and valuable incentives into this coin, you're going to release a simple copy & paste version of a coin, with no actual innovation whatsoever and just hope that the name and logo alone will inspire an enormous (in the hundreds of billions of dollars a year) industry to adopt it.

That you're not willing to wait a few weeks to release a *MUCH* more superior blockchain tells me you aren't really in this for the long haul, which is a big red flag to me. Sadly, this suggests to me that you are *only* hoping to make a few bucks from this coin over the next month or so and then get out before it completely fizzles out of existence. As much as I would like to support your coin, you don't seem to believe in it yourself, so I won't be able to.

You ideas are good but also too huge!
It's impossible to estimate how difficult it would be and how long it would taken to implement a whole system you want.
Even the Ethereum blockchain technology itself haven't been completely proven and widely accepted.
There are still many things we can do using our Moviecoin even without Ethereum blockchain.

When altcoin developers said they don't premine they usually premined in some tricky ways.
Or that altcoin is just a quick buck without long term plan!
Moviecoin is a long term coin, we have many plans like making a film by moviecoin owners and return the earnings from a movie back to them. A small number of premine is really needed to lead some projects like this.

the wallet has not been compiled else they would have released i guess.

I would expect this to be postponed quite a bit now....

Better to push back release that fuck it up.

Await until you can publish the windows qt ahead of time in the protected zip and have everything else ready too.

sorry but there was no good reason for you NOT to give the wallets as requested by people on this thread.

instamining first easy blocks was the reason.

QT should have virus total output listed and be zipped and allowed to be dowloaded ahead of time. By the time we download the wallet, upload to virus total, scan, set up the config.....100's of blocks are strip mined.

If you want to instamine it .... be honest with your next release.  It already has 2% premine.... should not have got greedy.

Branding it another scam coin.... maybe not the most scammy but you deliberately did not post the qt before hand so you could be instamining it simple as that.

Let's start developing some fair release protocol on this board.

What did anyone expect with such a pathetic attempt at a copycoin?
Hey next lets make Groceriescoin! and Cartooncoin! and Dentistcoin! and SmellyShoecoin!

We need an official currency for our old smelly shoes right?

Again, why the fuck would anyone change their money three times (fiat > bitcoin > moviecoin) just to buy movie tickets online when they can already do that with fiat or bitcoin?

I applaud the guy suggesting to wait for ethereum but the dev of this coin is obviously not a programmer. This is a coingen coin, plain and simple.
No self-respecting programmer would release a piece of shit like this. And do it so poorly.

Don't waste your hashing power supporting copycoins. You are just weakening the community.

Yes 20 million pre-mine is too much compared to 50,000 reward for the first 4 days... this is BS. No point mining at all.

Why not?

Again, why the fuck would anyone change their money three times (fiat > bitcoin > moviecoin) just to buy movie tickets online when they can already do that with fiat or bitcoin?

flat vs moviecoin:

This is my last time to reply those kind of posts!
If you don't like moviecoin, please just walk way!

So far you are the only person using @outlook.com.
Could you please register another account with gmail, yahoo or some other email?

I'm afraid there is a connection problem between our pool server and hotmail.com.
Our ISP is unlikely to fix this issue for us specially.

Thanks @TheMightyX. Agreed this kind of coin development is *NOT* helping the crypto community. In fact, it's only going to cause everyone that loses money investing in these copycoins to warn their friends away from crypto - you're actually hurting blockchain development. @MovieCoin your argument for why this will reduce friction in payment for movies is just evidence that crypto would improve the system, but you do not offer *ANYTHING* unique or beneficial over simply using Bitcoin itself. i made an offer to co-develop an etherum moviecoin with me that would actually offer benefits over current systems and try to offer something unique. i am disappointed that you chose to release this copycoin instead.

Why do people still mine shit like this?

Pre-mined, delayed launch, about half of the comments in these 8 pages have been people with errors with the wallet, pools, withdrawals and another 25% are calling it when it is, just a poor scam coin!  Don't waste your hash power, mine something worth while people!

I like this coin because I like movies. Plain and simple. People who proclaim every new altcoin dead on arrival seem to have no concept of the coming market... people who buy and use altcoins simply because they like the theme.

I don't get the relationship between this coin to movies.

Examples:
1. Pay for CD/DVD/Poster/Tickets(all movie related)..
Why not bitcoin directly? Hmm.. The price of bitcoin is too high, there would be more transaction fee!
2. Pay for online movies/vidoes around the world. Visa card is not safe, bitcoin is not focus!
3. Moviecoin Foundation to make our own movies to be the film investors and enjoy the movie DIY!

But sure, most of things should be wait until moviecoin can be added to exchange!

2. Guarantee on the exchange could be provided if needed.

The difference is on exchanges you can only buy BTC/LTC/DOGE.. but not any physical things.
But at http://www.reddit.com/r/MovieCoin/ you can buy some real things like tickets using moviecoin.
We are looking forward moviecoin to be a standard coin around all movie related industry.

Unless you have only a CPU or super budget GPU, you should be able to solo mine. Difficulty is only about 0.01 - 0.02. You could win the majority of blocks with only 1-2MH/s.

A Tale of Two Tokens: The Unique Merits of MOV and MSF

While understanding the innerworkings of digital currency and tokenization technology is second nature to our experienced team at MovieCoin, we recognize that many of the company’s plans to improve entertainment industry financing and cash flow are difficult to grasp. Chief among these is the issuance of digital tokens, which can vary in functionality depending on use case. Below, we break down the unique characteristics of our two entertainment industry tokens, Moviecoin Tokens and MovieCoin Smart Fund Tokens, to provide more clarity.

The ability to invest in these kind of one-stop movie related token would definitely be a huge plus for any investor. It contains all the relevant materials for an investor to review it and invest with confidence.

(This thread has nothing to do with the current MovieCoin. They are not related at all. Not sure how I can make it any clearer.)

https://cheddar.com/videos/tokenizing-tinseltown  Buyer beware. In my opinion, this will be a dud but they will spin it to sound like the best thing to hit the industry. Also my opinion is that I would have some trust issues with him and some of the people that work with him as well. So that would make this a definite non-starter not to mention crypto being as low as it is currently. Woodrow says you know 5 times in 5 seconds from about 1:38 to 1:45. Just kind of funny.

Just my opinion but if it sounds too good to be true, it probably is and there are more secure and better things to invest in. Don't get hyped by the glitzy facade.
