Huh Huh Huh

That is a seriously difficult question to answer.

Since trolling isn't in the conventional dictionary I looked at I had to go to the most popular urban dictionary definition:

The art of deliberately, cleverly, and secretly pissing people off, usually via the internet, using dialogue.

One would have to say that digaran is doing the following:

?  Art - art is very subjective. I'm not sure if I am qualified enough in the art of trolling to answer that.

?  Deliberately - one could argue that he is doing it as a response rather than doing it for the Lulz. Probably deliberate.

☒  Cleverly  - I doubt that any of the people that accuse him of trolling would say it is done cleverly. So you'd have to admit that it is clever.

☒  Secretly - it isn't much of a secret that he is pissing people off

☑  Pissing people off

☑  Via the internet

☑  Using dialogue

But he will probably claim that he is counter-trolling.

While a troll is highly annoying, ignore works wonders. I also believe it is up to the interpretation of a mod/admin.

When the subject of buying BTC with Paypal comes up, I often remember this:

Insanity: doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results.

While a troll is highly annoying, ignore works wonders. I also believe it is up to the interpretation of a mod/admin.

I was trying to introduce a bit of humor into the subject. It would be boring if everyone was just sitting in an echo chamber.
If everyone agreed it would be a boring back patting hippy group.

While the discussion can sometimes be tedious and repetitive the alternative would be a self-congratulatory discussion.

Censoring speech (however annoying it may be) should in my opinion only be done if it is only destructive.

Echo chamber is a pretty good alternative to absolute crap posting.

Report to admin, Looking at another thread, Ignore and logging off works wonders for me.

Some of the flame wars between different conflicting personalities can be boring but such is the nature of a forum.

Sure, I read many of them but some are not worth posting in when they degrade to idiocy.

I'm actually surprised digaran hasn't been banned yet.  I've seen a handful of members here in the past 3 years get banned for trolling (I think).  Mixan, fwdxlsh, and that girl who kept writing that she has a thigh gap....or maybe that was fwdxlsh, can't remember.  MPOE-PR was another, right around the time I started lurking.  I'd say digaran is as bad or worse than those folks, and it seems he interjects himself into any discussion of forum politics, as if he wants negative trust from DT members--and he's gotten it, most recently from OGNasty.  He's a feedback troll as well as a posting troll, so as much as I'm for the freedom this forum provides, he is breaking the rules.

I've had him on ignore for a while now, but I keep looking at his posts anyway.  Silly me.

Yes!! Nice find.  I don't even know why she got banned, but it was obvious that what she was doing was trolling.  It wasn't malicious (like digaran's posts often are), but it was a bit disruptive to the forum.  There was another member, with the handle of Oxoo10 or something similar who was trolling hard.  Don't know if he got banned or just disappeared.  I always thought he was somebody's alt, but I couldn't figure out whose it might be.

We need more clarification under that heading regarding what is allowed under that heading. If even jokes are not allowed, that will make this place quite boring.

Jokes are allowed, but they're scarce here since very few people can string the appropriate sentences together with enough skill to pull off something humorous.  Even fewer people would even catch something funny.

Why waste time putting actual creativity into a post when all anyone has to worry about is character count, anyway?  [end sarcasm]

Looking at his post history, i think this guy is actually somewhat "serious" and does actually (atleast up to some degree) believe in what he is posting. (Not that any of his points/posts have merit imo)

So where exactly do you draw the line between trolling and spreading misinformation simply because you do not know better/ believe in something that is different from popular opinion..

If you ban this guy, are you also going to ban this guy? https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=profile;u=244104

Or if any opinion that has no factual basis is/should be allowed or not.

What I noticed in this forum, there are many making trolls especially those high ranking members. But, when those low ranking member will troll they are very mad or angry. It is something unfair because when high ranking members will troll, some members will also support that high ranking member. Sad reality.

I haven't been the target of his obsession. Perhaps I see him in a different light.

Huh Huh Huh

I have always been confused about what exactly rule 3 was meant to cover. It always seen many cases of what I would consider being trolling but I've never reported a single post for it. I've reported a few of diagran's for off-topic when he's tried to derail one of my threads into a discussion about his obsession with DT. I think that's the easier way to deal with it in general, focus on the other rules they break.

Same feelings here. I don't understand how this user: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=profile;u=771606
is allowed to write so many nonsense threads in the Ivory Tower and the Serious discussion board, with answers like:
farting  Wink

be aware... if you say spanish - catalan... a mod is getting a little check Smiley

use this money well btw, I don't care...

I know it is a centralized place... at your mercy...

the problem you face dear idiot is the catchers...

asap as soon as post it's cached and two everything that his removed his marked Smiley

so it's gg wp next.

don't forget bitmessage, freenet, diaspora and all the others free open source uncensorable networks... lot of others bitcoin forum Smiley

I can't even understand a single word of what this guy writes...

But, anyway, that's why the "ignore button" exists.
But I take your point. They should erase this rule or apply it.

What is trolling? Of course, being completely unpolite, uneducated, pointless, to insult others, to go into a thread and break the discussion by posting nonsenses, menaces or insults to the posters... et al.
It is not so difficult to detect a troll, for it is an attitude towards others and the forum itself, it doesn't happen in just one thread (everyone can troll once or twice in his life), but this is a daily issue, a daily attitude.

So, if the rules are not going to be implemented, then erase them.

However, trolling isn't allowed. If a user is habitually posting obviously false nonsense ("obviously false nonsense" to an outsider, NOT to someone who follows or is involved in the discussion) just to stir up trouble, then it's considered trolling, which is prohibited. Such cases should be thoroughly documented in the report though (There are tons of reports that just say "trolling", but moderators don't have time to look through each user's post).
I don't really think he's met this qualification, especially the "obviously false nonsense" to an outsider part... and if you are reporting this sort of thing to a mod, I assume you will need a lot of documentation/support to back up the habitual use of obviously false nonsense to an outsider part, and may even have to explain why it's obviously false. Good luck with all that.  Undecided    (Ignore is easier...)

If you really loved this community you would ask theymos to lock your accounts and go away and save everyone the trouble of dealing with your nonsense.

You love us just let us go, and if it's really meant to be we will find our way back to you.  If it is our destiny for you and the forum to be together fate will make it happen.

Please if you love something (this forum) let it go, have faith that it will all be just and righteous in the end!!!!

Actually all the factors apply to digaran here:

If a user is habitually posting obviously false nonsense("obviously false nonsense" to an outsider, NOT to someone who follows or is involved in the discussion) : In a totally irrelevant thread, he posted this:

It would be better if we could have the same system with default trust members, many of them are inactive, IMO they should be excluded from DT system after being inactive for some time. speaking of trusting people to moderate, we could really use some help regarding a few rogue DT1 members. because IMO trust system is more important than moderators, if mods do something wrong people could spot them very quickly but we don't know what is going on with some DT members and their inside deals.

Just to stir up trouble, then it's considered trolling, which is prohibited: In the same thread he is also stirring up trouble:

Bumping this, for suggestions of new staff(paid or volunteers).

Welsh. he is active and a good reporter, he is also not biased. I don't see why Welsh shouldn't be a moderator. and about the biggest bully in this forum aka OgNasty, he could keep at bullying people with red tags and distribute merits, nothing else.

There are way more references where digaran was trolling, but should he be banned? Nah. His stupidity is a good thing for this for the forum, he bloviates a lot, his lack of knowledge on how this forum works, is quite amusing.  A temp ban might bring him to senses or or he will start new threads to claim how moderators are abusing their power. And then he will pay someone to sue theymos.  Roll Eyes

Know where I am getting at?
