There are tons of patents tucked away that'll never see the light of day that are purely intended to cover an arse in a theoretical future. This isn't any type of dead cert other than them acknowledging that some day they might need to do something.

That's a good point. These patents are formed for just in case this movement moves in a better direction that expected in which case these companies will be covered. Though, its at least nice to see that they've given some thought.

Always great to see big players accepting bitcoin. They have to do it soon otherwise they will lose customers as people switch to ICO projects that make credit cards which accept bitcoin as payment

Actualy Mastercard is already present in.crypto world with Bitcoin debit cards, like Mistertango for example
Using blockchain at another level is just another step further.

I am a collection of that great news around cryptocurrency. I believe that all of those news are just taking us closer to the point of global worldwide acceptance of Bitcoin and along with it and other cryptocurrencies..

Any blockchain expert here have any idea how can they improved confirmations time? (I assuming they are talking about the limitations of blockchain here in terms of the speed on how a block is confirm).

Is this like a LN scenario? Opening both channels to make the transactions much quicker?

Do you reckon Mastercard know anything about how to improve the functionality of an actual blockchain? I'm doubtful. And it's not as if any of the main coins would accept a Mastercard fork either. Fiat spending is their business.

I expect it'll be just the same as an existing crypto debit card. You deposit your BTC with them, or presumably some partner like Coinbase, and you spend the balance.

"fractional reserves of blockchain currency" is an unfortunate turn of phrase. I presume that means you're spending fractions of your Bitcoin reserve through them. I don't like the alternative interpretation.

I also think the same, but yes, probably they used to "flowery" words on their description and it makes a lot confusion in the first place. So still as much as MasterCard put a spin on it and picture as if they are joining the crypto game, they are not, and only riding the popularity of crypto sphere.

I think this is good news for the development of crypto in front of the day. there are currently some positive rumors until the market strengthens. perhaps with the involvement of mastercards could bring about major changes to the crypto industry. I am happy to look forward to other news

The fractional reserve on Blockchain  is an interesting idea I have thought about too. That is, putting in good use the huge amount of wealth that is stored in Crypto. You could loan out thousands of Bitcoin not owned by you to  businesses/companies.  But that goes against the idea of Crypto which is to make people have total control over their Crypto.
Could easily work if the Company/Bank owns the Node with people's Cryptocurrency or through the use of private "Blockchain"... the  kind of blockchain Governments and Banks would love.
