Can you stop calling Bitcoin an investment?
This damages the cryptocurrency. Bitcoin was not created to become an investment. Before Bitcoin, there were some digital currencies years back, the goal was always to be able to create a (digital) currency free from central banks and governments.
Cypherpunks and other anarcho-capitalists are at the origin of this idea, perhaps 20 or 30 years ago. None were intended to make an investment to be rich quickly.
You won't find in the white paper "investing" mentioned, you won't find any post from Satoshi mentioning it
Considering Bitcoin as an investment, this is the reason why we have more and more regulations, G20 summits and others craps, KYC, etc...
The word "Crypto-assets" didn't exist before, why did they create it? Because you even consider it an investment, then why shouldn't they?
Bitcoin could be a lot more accepted and used by now. Why should a merchant agree to be paid in Bitcoin? He wants money, not a piece of your investment.
You're not even investing, you are just gambling with money.
Go to the altcoins board, you will surely find plenty of ICOs where you can say you invested in. I have something for you, ICOs used to raise money are no different than "Crowdfunding". If you want to invest then there are a lot of Crowdfunding websites where you can invest in real startups with fewer risks, (you won't find any project using photos from Pixabay...)
Why don't we see cryptographers anymore? Guess the reasons
Bitcoin and the Altcoins would been better in terms of market stability if they are considered and utilized as just digital currencies. With this, Cryptos would have been adapted because of their capabilities and features of its technology - Blockchain. These are the factors that make Bitcoin and every other Altcoin an incredible invention and not just the returns on investment. |

Bitcoin was used as a digital currency since from the start. But this become a failure because there's a problem regarding on mass adoption and government acceptance due to its features. But still bitcoin had achieved an increasing value when some other countries are starting to use it as a mode of payment for commodities, services and some converted it to fiats. Due to its high market value, bitcoin was already considered as an investment and asset. They used as an investment because bitcoin has a huge increase of value every year. Big investors come and buy a lot of bitcoins in the market for the profit they can get from it. Bitcoin with its features made itself as an investment nowadays. And we have nothing to do when crypto community already call bitcoin as an investment.

Of course we can. But at Bitcoin's current status, we cannot deny the fact that people won't be able to "think" that it is one. You are so correct with your points which is why it is quite sad that the vision and the original purpose of Bitcoin's creation has been altered and was swayed to becoming an asset giving the impression of being an investment. Surely, the big players (the very people this system is trying to run away from) have turned things around for their general benefit (many of us are also benefiting from this turn around). But I guess that's just how things work now a days as people always find ways to take advantage of every possible opportunity.
Well for me, BItcoin is still an investment, for most holders it always will be, but also look for some alternatives like altcoins and other coins to proceed with your profit in the future if bitcoin will fail this coming years. |

I only use BTC on speculation and make a profit, I have not used BTC to pay or buy anything on the market, so I always call BTC an investment unless the government of my country accept get BTC circulation

My answer to this question is No. Because for me, I know and aware that Bitcoin is crypto currency but I am one of those people that also treat Bitcoin and use it as a medium for investments. Why happens that people use Bitcoin for investment? It is because of the great capabilities of this crypto currency in the market place.

well, although bitcoin is made to provide fast transactions, with a small fee. but its ever-growing price quickly makes the bitcoin functional changes as an investment tool. Well, I also use bitcoin as a multifunctional tool, because I can use it as a means of payment and as an asset, it's like gold in the old days. |

I'm pretty sure none of them had any objections to trading, since free market is essential for the economy, and Bitcoin economy is no exception. Also, nothing in this world is created to be an investment, investing is essentially just finding undervalued things and selling them later, and things grow in their price because their demand grows, not because they were created to be a good investment. Also, Bitcoin's success shouldn't rely on its users being strict libertarians/cypherpunks who use it because they are hardcore believers, ideally people should be using Bitcoin because it is objectively better than banks.

Because in the early days Bitcoin was a small cypherpunk community, but now millions of people have joined this forum and other platforms. If you want to have discussions like in old good days, you should search some IRC channels or other similar places. |

According to me, bitcoin is the best place to invest your bitcoin at higher risk to earn higher amount profit. So if you buy bitcoin at a lower price and hold it for a long time and then when the price of it going to start increasing then you will sell it and make a huge profit from it. |

I think that btc is the best possible investment and that's why you can call btc the powerful and worthy investment number 1 as it is the first in the rating. to my mind, this is the best one ever
I cant stop calling bitcoin as an investment because i know a lot of people who become successful when they invest here in bitcoin. Theres a lot of advantages when investing in bitcoin. But you need to have a strategy here so thay you will be able to achieve your goal and to earn. Perfect timing is needed and patience everyday. |

if I never call bitcon as an investment gan. but many people are accustomed to call bitcoin as a good investment place in today's modern and sophisticated. so bitcoin becomes number one and many people are hunting it .

We cant ,for me bitcoin is absolutely a gambling and its only for a risk taker ,because if you already put your money here, you didnt know if it could gain or maybe lose.
Definitely because bitcoin is not really an investment it only some people are in investing maybe that's the reason why they call investing but totally it's not it's just they hold there bitcoin except they exchanged into the market that's why they think investing but it's not. |

How Is Bitcoin a failure? It's a success (at what level is another thing) We don't need to get the governments accepting Bitcoin. It's supposed to be free from them. You won't see the police visiting you at home to see if you downloaded a Bitcoin wallet and checking it to see if it has an activity. You're yourself telling it: "some other countries are starting to use it as a mode of payment" I think everyone here is for profit. how else can this be called except as an investment
It's not the truth. It's not because you see thousands of people spamming the forum to earn some bucks that it means everyone is here for profits. There are a lot of true Bitcoiners, and you can't consider only the forum, not every crypto enthusiast is a member of BitcoinTalk. |

It was heavily being used for payments in the early days, where silk road is the perfect example of how well Bitcoin can function as cash. On top of that, due to the lack of services where you can exchange your Bitcoins for fiat, people kept their coins and just spent it as a way to cash out. Bitcoins were circulating as how cash is circulating right now, and that's how it technically should be. People used it as cash because they understood the technology aspect of Bitcoin and for that reason got excited and kept using it. Right now people's understanding of Bitcoin isn't there, and they don't even bother to dive into it. It's all profits they care about. Yes, satoshi nakamoto created bitcoin as a currency, used for payment, for us to be free from governments that controlled the currency and banks that put tax on the transaction. But that does not go to plan, we used bitcoin in terms of investments because if we used it for payments we might loose profit if the price of bitcoin increase. We are nature to do the things that will make us benefits in any term, but as what we see, we really need money now for us to live and to be part of society, because if you dont have money, you're just a trash to them. |

I am totally agree with you. It will be right decision and the industry of crypto currency will certainly be benefited if we can stop calling bitcoin as an investment platform. But, I think it will not be easy to do so. Because people around us are attracted to bitcoin to gain something. Most of us like to see it as an investment platform as it is highly volatile. So, if the price of bitcoin become stable and most of the online transaction take place by using bitcoin then it will be stop calling. Hope it will be materialized sooner or later.

I completely agree with you, but after the sudden rise of Bitcoin's price in the market, has been known as one of profitable high risk, high reward investment in the internet and that people started calling it as an asset. Since then, all this medias has had a bad image for Bitcoin calling it a bubble and a scam which in fact it is not a business or an asset to invest to begin with. I think people will continue to see this as an investment because investors are giving them hope and an image.
