I've opened up a little shopify store for the couple of items that I have to give people a more automated process if they want.
The store accepts Bitcoin, CC, and Paypal processing.
If you still prefer you can always message me on here as well.

You can access it at http://shop.serpco.in/
To celebrate, use the code BITCOINTALK during checkout for 10% off the prices. Smiley

You can see the thread for the first version at https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=374833.0
Most information is at the site http://serpco.in/

Coin

 - 35mm diameter
 - 3mm thickness
 - 15mm x 15mm recessed square on back
 - Zinc Alloy with 18K Gold Plating
 - Labeled 2014
 - Labeled QUARTER BITCOIN

Security Holograms

 - 32mm dameter
 - 13mm x 2mm transparent window
 - Honeycomb release for tamper evidence
 - Security edge slits for tamper evidence
 - 16 holograms per sheet

All coins will be sold as a set of coin + hologram + air-tite (with black ring) since that is how everyone wanted them last time anyways.
All orders will come with extra holograms.

How To Load The Coins?
A good starting place is http://serpco.in/#code.
If you have more questions then send me a message and I will try to help.

Hey, very cool to see the v2!

Does the gold plating and the paper slot justify the ≈2.25x price compared to v1?

Also, any discount for larger quantities?

Thanks!

Hey nicolasgramlich.  That is a fair question.  The first set was priced extremely low due to the intention being liquidation.  There was more interest than I expected and so I have created this second set.  This set cost more to produce but there is also room in the pricing added this time.  I still think the pricing is reasonably low especially when compared to other options out there.

I do plan to do discounts for larger quantities but I have not mentioned that yet since I am still waiting on bulk air-tites to arrive.  If you have any more questions about bulk then feel free to pm me.

The hologram has a little window. You print the "firstbits" on the outward facing side of the private key label that is under the hologram.

I should have bulk airtites in on Tuesday (2/25) which is later than I was hoping.  I will add bulk pricing to the thread when they arrive.  If you are interested in doing something sooner, send me a pm and we'll work out sending bulk without the airtites.

Yes, a set comes with the coin, an air-tite (with black insert), and the hologram.  And I always send extra holograms because they are easy to mess up with the security release they have.

I am having trouble getting the python script to run in ubuntu 13.04. I keep getting permission denied errors or it simply freezes on generating keys. Any ideas? Is there a html or windows version?

Hey Pistachio,

The freezes are usually because the ecda libs aren't installed for python.  I'm not sure on that version of ubuntu but you can try the following:

First try the following:
Code:
sudo apt-get install python-ecdsa

If that does not work then it must not be in the repositories in that version of ubuntu so try the following:
Code:
sudo apt-get install python-pip
sudo pip install ecdsa

If that doesn't work then try the following:
Code:
sudo apt-get install python-setuptools
sudo easy_install pip
sudo pip install ecdsa

Once you get that installed then just go into the serpcoin directory and type ./run.sh

If that does not work for you send me a message with the errors you are getting and we'll try to work it out.

Thanks, I am almost there. I now get permission denied when executing lines 12, 15, 18, 21, and 24. It completes the program but nothing is in the cache folder.

The only thing it needs to write to is the cache directory.  So maybe that didn't get writeable permission? or you are running it from a different user than you unzipped it from?

Try going into the serpcoin directory and typing:
Code:
chmod 777 cache

Then try running again.

Many thanks. I ended up installing Ubuntu 14.04 and it worked without a hitch. I will add some pics. These are nice looking coins for a very affordable price. The case and black ring is a nice touch.

Are you working on other denominations? These would be great for 1/10 btc coins.

Great, glad you got it working.  I'll need to look into older ubuntu installations to get those instructions more clear.

I'm in a constant state of considering lower denominations.  Hopefully at some point I'll have them.

Well, I have, finally, received my package and made a few pictures, which will be posted underneath this post. The coins itself are the shiniest coins I have ever seen. Even my "Cold Hard Cash"-coins from NewLiberty, can't match the shininess of these coins. It's amazing! They feel really good and I can't wait to fund them, which I will do once I have some BTC to fund them with.

Serp, you send me three coins, did you know that? I only ordered two. Do you want me to pay for the third one?

Picture time!

As for the extra coin, I'd rather send too many than too few.  Just enjoy it Smiley

After trying a few different methods of creating the keys, I finally ended up using an Ubuntu image within VirtualBox. (Thanks for the tip serp)

Here's a pic I took, more to come later on when I pull out my SLR  Grin

They fit perfectly. The stands are adjustable as well, so every coin should be able to fit into it. The thing on which the stand stands (ghehe) is a Coin Case I bought for my NewLiberty coins (a picture, more pictures can be found here). You can get those from Ebay as well.

I wish I had a v1 too. Right now I have 3 funded v2's and it'd be nice if I could have all three (if a third is made)

Yeah, I'd buy some V1 too if they were still available.

Will prolly also buy some V3 if they come out. I'd just like to know the amount of coins per series.

Hrmm.. I could have sworn I had that information listed somewhere.  There were 500 x DIY1 and 1000 x DIY2.  There were 48 of each of the 3 versions of loaded coins prior to that.  There are 100 total of the Silver Lapel pins (PIN1).

I do have hopes for a DIY3 and a PIN2 but not all the details are worked out there yet.

Unfortunately, I'm out of the DIY1 but there might be someone out there willing to part with a few.

Awesome thanks.

Do you consider making those coins for other currencies? If you make one for NXT, I am sure I can sell a good bunch of them for you! You can even list them on the upcoming digital goods store!

PM me if you think that might be interesting. I could even fund raise before you have to decide.

If anyone wants to try out OpenBazaar, I've put up a listing there with a special price on on a few coins. Smiley

It's still pretty new and buggy but I figured it would be fun to give it a try.

Hey devthedev,  I'm not sure how to link directly to a contract but if you install the OpenBazaar software I am user/store b4f52076761d1d3ec4a8e8b2acd7fb29df17b1c2

I'm not sure proper way to say it but I should be listed as the Serpco store with that key underneath.  If I'm not listed then you can click the add node and put that key in to add it (then reload).

Just wondering if you are somehow invested in OpenBazaar because I just cannot see an ecommerce solution being successful which requires a download, why add another barrier?

Just wondering if you are somehow invested in OpenBazaar because I just cannot see an ecommerce solution being successful which requires a download, why add another barrier?

Hello Fortify,  I am not invested or in anyway associated with them other than I am testing it out.  OpenBazaar is decentralized and so it shares many of the same advantages as bitcoin over centralized currencies.  If you are interested, the marketplace uses multisignature addresses to implement ricardian contracts with escrow.

Much like bitcoin, if/when it becomes popular enough, services would be built to make it easier.  Currently it's in a very alpha phase with only one implementation.  Think of bitcoin during the first alpha releases of the reference bitcoin client.

If anyone wants to try out OpenBazaar, I've put up a listing there with a special price on on a few coins. Smiley

Do you have a link to that listing?

Thanks.

I wish I could give it a shot, I can't figure out how to compile it for Windows though.

Serp,
I received one of the DIY2 coins assembled from a seller today (was labeled as DIY so I assumed it was going to be a kit), unloaded with the hologram already over the Private Key which does not allow me access to the Private Key unless I take off the hologram.  I do have access to the Public Key which was provided with the coin.

I plan on buying another from your site (since it seems to be a DIY kit) so I can put the item together myself since I have done this for coins before but I am wondering if I should consider this coin insecure since I did not assemble it myself?

Thanks for your advice,
digicoinuser

Hey digicoinuser,

Yes, the coins from my site come as DIY only so you would be making your own private keys.

In the case where you bought one that was already assembled then you are putting trust in the person that assembled it as they would have access to the private keys as well.

Thanks for your interest in the coin and let me know if you have any other questions.  Generally pm or email (btc at serpco.com) are the fastest ways to get me.

Question, I'm worried that printing these on paper and simply folding it and putting it underneath the hologram will cause the paper to erode or wear off from the air and normal conditions come a year or two from now?

Is there any validity in this concern? Don't want to load a lot of bitcoin onto these and then not be able to have access to the wallet come a year from now cause of the private key wearing off.

I might just have too much anxiety about things haha.

I have a few of these myself, great coins for very reasonable price + Serp is great guy to trade with.

I have done my DIY in a little "different" way, as I am not planning to sell the coins I have loaded, then is there no need to destroy the priv key after print. I have save the priv key and encrypted it (with truecrypt) and stored the file on a USB stick, that allows me to have a backup of the priv key. If any of the two is lost (coin or file), then is it still possible for me to retrieve the funds.

Thats a good idea but I wanted this to be one access only. I might do this though. Has anyone had experience with opening a wallet 1-2 years old that was written on paper?

Rec'd my two coins today, gonna be assembling them tonight! Can't wait!

One suggestion serp, there was WAY too much tape on this package. I had to literally rip the package to shreds to open it. You heavily taped both ends and the center of it. It was a fully taped package. Don't know if it was just me but it was overkill in my opinion. Thanks again nonetheless!

My package was properly taped and was not excessive at all.  Had to be a fluke I would say as it was quite easy to open.  Smiley

Uh oh...thought this whole do-it-yourself coin was gonna be easy (never created a cold wallet before). I don't know how to use Ubuntu, how to find a virtual machine or download one with my mac and I can't seem to get this program to work...

Can anyone help here? I feel like I wasted 20 bucks now cause I have no idea how to do any of this.

You have not wasted $20 Smiley
There are other ways of creating the private key + print.

I did not use the DIY software.
I created the private keys using a copy of www.bitaddress.org, copied the HTML file to a offline computer with a printer attached.
(I actually tossed a dice 99 times to create a random BASE99 number, so I did not have to trust ninja's random generator)

I then made a template in paint (2 x square that fits serp coins if folded), and copy-pasted in the private in one of the squares and the puplic key in the other square.

Print, cut, fold, and assemble.

Very easy to do, all with standard software.

(also recommended to "test/verify" the private key offline with bitaddress.org before loading the coin)

Edit: I do not want to hijack serp thread, PM and I can help you with this method if you like the idea and my explanation is not clear enough.

Cryptography is one of the few things you can truly trust.

In regards to ink fading, you either want to print the privkey on special paper that is designed to hold laser-printed patterns for 10 years or more, or you can also just use an impact printer. I have a receipt printed from an impact printer 10 years ago, still completely legible.

Well I hope you like the coins!  I actually had a postal worker lecture me on not taping enough once so maybe I do overkill it now?  I'm not currently using self adhesive mailing labels so I just get the 4 sides of the label and then once over top of your address.  I will probably pick up a thermal printer soon.

Hey ct1aic,

Did you create it yourself with serpcoin software?  If so there is a file saved (named addr.sav) which stores just the coin # and the full bitcoin addresses.

I know there are a few people who were selling them on ebay put together already.  If you bought it that way you will need to contact the person you bought it from.  I sell them as Do It Yourself kits only so, unfortunately, I can't help you there.

I would not recommend that you never fund the coin. Unless you really really really really really trust the person you have bought it from.
Much better to buy a few fresh hologram from serp and assemble the coin with a private key that you have created.
I would offer to send you a hologram for the price of a stamp, but unfortunately I don't have any left.

hey serp,  Do you have any holograms and/or DIY coins left for sale?  I have a blank coin lying around but I can't find the holograms (nor can i get it out of its case, lol) Sad

Hey Monbux, I must have missed this when you first posted.  I don't seem to get notifications when the thread is updated.  I do get emails when someone sends me a message though.

So a real late response here but yes I have a few coins and labels left.
A few people have wanted just labels so I put them up at:  http://shop.serpco.in/products/bitcoin-hologram-security-labels

I have more holograms than coins left but there are a few coins left too.

I think they are.
Most of us have some for sale or trade.
And I'm pretty sure you can order still from the website: http://shop.serpco.in/
They also have some sweet silver BTC pins

thanks

Yea I just wanted to make sure their website was still functional Smiley I love the coin, cheapest physical bitcoin I have ever found and the most gorgeous (18k gold plated, wowzerssss) Cheesy

Will probably place an order for a few Smiley
