But we can't just simply believe everything that available in the whitepaper, we have also need to gain other information from another source to check if the project is legit or not

I think whitepaper will not give you a lot of insight about the project basically whitepaper is a concept and it can't be trusted at all remember there is a lot of developers were changing its plan during the development.
You should try to do a deep research about the project just like the code, the team and legal support

That is a good point. I have seen some whitepaper have their following versions. Some of its features on the whitepapers are being removed due to some instances. But most of it has added new features and detailed information. Still a research must be done.

I believe that it will make less suspicion if you found out that the whitepaper is written originally as in everything because scammers like to copy  more than half of other projects and edit the rest. It's the only importance for me I think because the final product always don't reflect on their whitepapers.

In my view, whitepaper is nothing. It's true that by reading whitepaper you will know about the blockchain technology solutions they offer and whether this project is a scam or not because the project scam is only copying the white paper of another project. In the current condition of ico, I cannot think of the benefits of what we can get from reading the whitepaper, because when ICO still had a lot of interest/hype, we could analyze investor interest by reading and understanding the whitepaper.
