There was a 2nd such post by someone else deleted about the same time.

This is my self moderated forum thread (also happens to be the biggest thread on the forum)

The pool section of the forum is moderated by another pool owner and a person who mines on that pool.
Bias?
Well yeah been a lot of that there lately, but a mod deleting on topic posts, from my self moderated thread, should clearly NOT be happening.

I don't think creating a self-moderated thread makes it OK for anyone to spam in it, regardless of whether the OP doesn't want it deleted.  If that were the case, spammers would just keep creating self-moderated threads so that mods would stay out of their business.

Anything you can think of that could be abused, will be.  Remember that.

The thread has been around for 4 years - please take note of the reference rather than spam posting here Smiley
How is that even relevant?  I'm going by the post you quoted, and I can see why it was deleted.  Plus my argument about abuse is still valid.  Do you really want me to read 4 years' worth of posts just to have an opinion about a shitpost?

You  did notice that the post was about a block, found by the pool, being confirmed and celebrated.
Ah.  I'm not a miner and didn't realize that was the significance.  In any case, it's just one post that was deleted.  If it's that important to the community, just make the post again, maybe make it a little more substantial.  We all get posts deleted every now and then, and it's not a huge deal.

You should explain more on the Bias part, otherwise nothing much is going to happen.

Also, chill down. If the mod deleted it, it would have been for a reason, or hell, someone would have reported it. On topic replies can be sometimes deleted, if they break some other rules of the forum.

Whoever the Mod is who is deleting block posts in here - FUCK OFF.
- That is not the most polite/professional way to go about when your thread is 4 years old and mods have supported it since then. Rather, ask what's wrong with the reply posted and how they consider it as off-topic. Also, mods don't lurk around the threads to delete posts, someone would have reported that reply with proper description.

And who doesn't know about KanoPool Wink

Plenty of the pools make these posts regularly, including the mod's pool, and mine also for the last ... 4 years.
So suddenly deleting them from my thread should not be happening, unless there is some bias (or alcohol) involved.

So on topic, not spam, and not breaking the posting rules.

If it was mistake, then it would be appropriate to own up to it, which would also put the issue to rest, yes?

No offense, but only a snowflake would go ballistic about one post being deleted.  You guys are really making a big deal out of nothing.

Let's see how you like it...
I told you, I've had posts deleted before.  I can't say I'm crazy about it, but stuff happens.  I'm actually grateful that mods are deleting what they think are insubstantial posts, even though I try not to pump out such things.  Sometimes mods get it wrong.  You guys are seriously overreacting IMO.

Apparently more than a post were deleted, in fact, multiple post from multiple people were deleted.
OK, well maybe the mod who deleted them will stop by to explain why he did it.

I know it was on topic and it doesn't really break the posting rules, but you don't really know if you broke it or not. Like I said, just because topics are on-topic, doesn't mean they can't be deleted.

It wasn’t my post.

Of COURSE posts can be deleted.  Socks can also be green.

The crux of the issue appears to be why they were deleted; a question which seems to be getting deflected instead of appropriately addressed.

1. No zero or low value, pointless or uninteresting posts or threads.

32. Posting multiple posts in a row (excluding bumps and reserved posts by the thread starter) is not allowed.

It is not as if that ever happens in that thread.  Roll Eyes

Are probably the main two reasons why it got deleted.

It is likely that someone reported it and that the moderator saw a short uninteresting post that looked like spam and may not have investigated the context.

Considering that moderators deal with thousands of spam posts hourly - deleting one that may not have been spam is a minor error.

Banning is at the moderators discretion. Untrustworthy behavior is also likely to attract some pretty red tags.

23. When deciding if a user has broken the rules, the staff have the right to follow their interpretation of the rules.

It is more likely that they just start ignoring your reports if they are inaccurate.

You could however be useful and report some real spam and breaking of the rules. That would be constructive.

I realise that communities can be quite protective of their product. But as an outsider that has never heard of your pool - the attitude towards the moderator is quite a put off. Not particularly good advertising for your pool. For what appears to me a likely situation of a moderator not seeing the complete context of the post. You can avoid such misunderstandings by making posts that are easier to identify as "not spam".

So for the sycophants of the mod who did this, here's some data that anyone can easily see in the pools thread, by clicking on my link and looking at other threads in the same place:

Query: In a self-moderated thread, when a post is Reported to Moderator, isn't the person who created the thread the one that gets the report and deals with it?

Aside from something pretty egregious why would the regular mods have any input? Do they also get a copy of the reported post?

<snip>

as I said (and anyone can see by clicking there) someone needs to be given the kick from moderating.

If I were you I  wouldn't be to keen to draw attention to yourself or the thread.

I didn't realize that mining pools were so competitive that it is a hatfield mccoy style rivalry.

Get the gunz out - it is another mining pool !

There are plenty of posts in your thread that breach the "low quality" rule and the "no consecutive posts rule". I wouldn't be so petty to report them because generally I leave threads where there is genuine discussion alone and just report the bots and obvious shills. But I can see why someone may have reported them. It is likely to be unconnected to your perceived rivalries.

Shazam. Much better answer then I got.

BTCamm!!! Let 'em roll in!!!

"Alright, alright, alright!"

Mo' green blocks, mo' greenbacks--er, BTC!

Money money mooooney, MONEY!

All could be considered "low quality posts". The reason I wouldn't report them is because it appears to be expressions of sincere delight. But they could still be considered as breaking the rules.

What generally happens though when people draw unnecessary attention to themselves is that they get more scrutinized - not less.

No. The function is called "Report to moderator" for a reason.

They do see the quoted post at the time it was reported.
