It's probably the first top 3 of the list of course, but it all depends in the category you're about to use if you're looking about the Market Cap, Volume as well as the price of a certain cryptos the top 3 are the following:

1. Bitcoin
2. Ethereum
3. Ripple

For me it's the best 3 coins from the coinmarketcap since it's not going to be placed in the top 3 if they're not the top 3 right? Well in my opinion there's no best coin, every coin has a unique identities and capabilities they're just they're are diverse by the market capacity, circulating supply as well as the price.

For me the best is monero I like the anonymity. Second would be cardano, I believe it will be huge when they start launching smart contract. Third will be litecoin, one of the legacy coins.

I think the top coin in 2018 will be the EOS, ADA and Ripple. These coins can greatly increase in price while it is quite well-known and popular coins.

I would suggest not to limit yourself to the top 20 but to the top 100.  There are many projects below the top 20 that has great potential and will bring larger profits than if you stuck to the top 20.  Stratis, Waves, BAT, ZRX are great projects to get into to.

Each person has their own opinion, you will see people pick different coins, because they have particular reason and belief, however for me Stellar lumens, Neo, Lisk, these 3 coins will be huge in 2019. They have real team and real tech behind them.

For me I don't normally invest into top 100 coins, I always look for coins that are still undervalue that is still low in price, but if i am mandate to pick my best three coins from top 20 coins from the coinmarketcap then I will choose Eth, Neo and EOS
