It's almost 8 months of 2018 and we have not seen any reasonable hikes for the altcoins,
It was only Ethereum that hit a good value of almost 1.4k$ in the beginning of the year . Since then it's pretty dull.

Forget overtaking can any ALTCOIN ever reach a value near Bitcoin.

Meanwhile I can't imagine that Bitcoin can be replaced by an altcoin sometime. Even Ethereum wasn't in the long run and won't make it in the future. Bitcoin is the leading currency in the crypto world. It's the first, big crypto coin, has the most support and the strongest network. That's probably why no altcoin will be able to take the place of Bitcoin in the future. It would still be possible, that happens, but very unlikely. There will be altcoins alongside Bitcoin that will hold their own but never surpass Bitcoin.  Wink

I don't believe any one can do so. bitcoin has had a lot of time to grow and given that it was the first coin in the market, it has had a lot of time to solidify its place as the king of all of the coins. All of the other coins depend on the price of bitcoin for their prices so that means that if the altcoins are growing then bitcoin is just growing just as much.

Every time a block is mined, a certain amount of BTC (called the subsidy) is created out of thin air and given to the miner. The subsidy halves every four years and will reach 0 in about 130 years.

Bitcoin is the number one and will remain the number one. I can't imagine Altcoin overtaking Bitcoin even years to come.

Looking at the way btc is and the technology on which it was built, I think considering with other projects which has some projects attached to it, no altcoin can ever overtake btc and thats the truth even looking at how the market has been.

According to me there is no chance of a altcoin overtaking bitcoin. Bitcoin is the mother currency of all and the creator of whole crypto market. So , no altcoins can take pver btc easily , Eth and Bch are good competitor bit btc way ahead of them.

I think it is possible to see an altcoin which can be stronger than the bitcoin in the future. Although bitcoin is the king of the cryptocurrency world, ultimately it is a coin and I don't believe that it is unbeatable.

In fact, until not long ago it was very common to hear from the promoters of new cryptocurrencies that their project was called to be the "bitcoin beater", "the next big thing in the crypto-universe" and similar bullshit. But I think that as time has gone by and bitcoin has demonstrated its enormous resilience in an increasingly demanding market, the developers of the new altcoins no longer aspire to displace the bitcoin from its hegemonic place, now they just want to survive in the market and not become another satellite orbiting around the "almighty" Bitcoin.

you're right about that,
i think it will be very difficult to overtake the position of bitcoin, other than the reason because bitcoin is the mother of all altcoins. bitcoin also has a very large community to support it in its position.

now or even in the future altcoin will not be able to overtake bitcoin.

for now i think no because currently there is no altcoin that is closer in value to bitcoin but we can never tell how the market will turn to favour other cryptocurrencies in the near future. Ethereum was the only coin that was a bit closer to bitcoin but currently it is way down.

I don't think there is an altcoin that until now has been able to overtake bitcoin because it is indeed very difficult, especially now that all coins have dropped, until now and for the future bitcoin will remain the top coin

No, that will never happen soon or even in the future. Bitcoin is too big and popular for any altcoin to overtake or dethroned. It has been months since last altcoins high and I think there will be no price high for this year compared to bitcoin which has been steady and stable for the past few months.

I think alcoin will still lose to bitcoin, and this is the time for BTC investment, we can buy and save it. because you believe that in the beginning of 2019 prices will increase again ... there are still investors and various kinds of parties looking for ... hopefully that can be true

Time will answer. I'm sure that there will be an altcoin that could overtake Bitcoin in the future. The blockchain is developing very fast and there are many talent blockchain developers. Someday we will see a new cryptocurrency overtake Bitcoin.

Not one Altcoin, including even Ethereum, can not outrun Bitcoin in value, as long as it maintains its high level of capitalization and therefore has the possibility of price domination over other types of cryptocurrency. Now coins and tokens will not be able to grow in price faster than Bitcoin does. Of course, there are exceptions to this rule.

i think altcoin will never overtake bitcoin, its like bitcoin is father of the crypto and everyone accept that when someone who don't really know crypto and then mention about crypto, its always refered to bitcoin. Even ethereum who has big value.

I think not, Bitcoin passed a long path for 10 years long, it had ups and downs, that's why it has such popularity. I don't know any altcoin that passed a similar path

i  think  that  even  if  it  going to  happen  because in my  opinion  it  will  not  it  takes  a   lot   of   time  in  order  to   make  such  a  big  difference.

May be in the future but right now,  I can not see that possibility!  Bitcoin has the network effect, in addition to it been the most decentralized cryptocurrency!  Bitcoin also has the biggest cap in the market!
