HODL is only effective to the coins that are promising and have a good future. You will only lose your money if you do hodl with wrong coins. I really regretted the moment that I hold many shitcoins.

As you said, the problem is the timeframe you want to HODL. People doesn't understand the economics concepts behind cryptocurrencies, coins are mostly scams and you take you money from you. HODL is a scam on its own imagine my one for e.g having the least of $100 and we keep HODling even as the market is bad. That's the biggest mistake to ever try because all funds will turn Zero (0). My wallet is an example never to try out HODling.

Everyone becomes a holder because they have no knowledge of when to sell and when to buy. Holder is a final solution to the hope that it can be profitable in the future. If everyone can know how to trade, this market will not grow

I think with the state of what bitcoin has showed up this year most newbies will learn up fast on when to sell of when the bear is about to be noticed or let's say about to come in. I do not agree that hold will manifest our lack of knowledge. Every investor has their own strategy. They do not like daily deals just to get a few dollars. They want to make big profits. So they will learn some altcoin thoroughly and then they will invest in long term.
