Jet Aid - first aid for posters

I am an alt of Jet Cash, and my aim is to help in the sanitisation of the forum. I am an alternative to the big sticks of the moderators, and I offer carrots to the responsible new members who just need a bit of advice. I've got the Jet Cash merit bank to help me encourage good posting habits. My reaction to a big stick threat is to try to find a bigger stick, but carrots make me reflect and try to improve myself. I'll put together some support pages, and have a look at the beginners forum today.

Bots and TwitBook spammers are not going to be helped if I detect them.

Moderator for what? A patroller? Probably some of the best choices for staff likely aren't even on this shortlist and is why popularity isn't the best quantifier. Sure, those who are very active and helpful within the community should be taken into consideration, but it's the accurate reporting showing you're aware of the rules that is usually the better identifier of suitability. As we've seen, some of the most popular amongst the community aren't even interested in the position either. Choosing mods for sub boards should obviously be chosen from the users who are most active in reporting within there and only theymos has access to that info.

Do you remember rickbig? He isn't much popular but is a very active reporter who just deserved the position of global MOD.  When he was elected, there were very few members who know about him. This shows that just being popular isn't enough to get appointed.

rickbig is a perfect example. He wasn't much of an active poster at all, but he was reporting an insane amount of posts. Every morning when I woke up there was often dozens upon dozens of reports by him on spambots and often times they had been in the queue for hours and could be still there for many more if I didn't get round to them or was out that morning. That's why it made perfect sense to have him on board. He frees up time from current mods and doesn't have to waste time reporting bots when he could just nuke them himself. He then rose rapidly to Global because he was still very active in reporting and it made sense for him to be a Global (and still despite being very active in actually posting). He's now probably amongst the top handlers of reports (though I can't be certain and only theymos will have access to those stats and that's why he is the best one suited to choosing new staff members). Maybe one day he might even become an admin. Who knows.

Jet Aid - first aid for posters

Honestly, I don't know how you find the patience for this. After reading spam comment after spam comment, my only two options are to report everything or just unwatch the thread and never return. Props once again.

You've got a typo in your personal message.

I can be a noisy bugger, and I expect most people will know soon enough. Anyway Jet Aid is getting a directory all to himself on the Jet Cash website.

https://jetcash.com/ - watch for the link to appear soon. I've got too many domains, so I didn't even look to see if Jet Aid is available. Actually Jet Aid is a bit historic. It's the first Internet sobriquet that I've used when I don't own the domain name.

I wanted something that started with "jet" to make things obvious.

I think all of them are great moderators on the bitcointalk forums.
I choose TMan because he censors the best quality and awards merit to encourage their efforts.

TMan was promoted to legend on April 23, Just behind the founders bitcointalk forum is satoshi

I agree that TMAN should be a Legendary, but at the moment he is still a Hero. Becoming a Legendary is a lottery for some reason.

Yeah, this seems more of a popularity contest. A few members up here I haven't even seen a report from. Plus, there's a few other members who aren't vocal about their reporting, but report a lot. I think in these circumstances without data of the top reporters in the specific sections we can't really nominate anyone because of the lack of insight.

Why not Jetcoin  Wink   or Jetforum  Smiley

The emphasis should be on help and encouragement. If one is commenting on a post structure, then one is unlikely to award it with merits.

Jet Aid provides Bandaids for posts, mods provide them for the posters' mouths.

At first I thought this was just a somekind of fan of JET CASH, because I think TalkMerit is enough to do another job. Oh well, sorry for judging your username in a wrong way of thinking. I really thought that this was just an alt of some shitty bastard that wants to earn Merits by licking the ass of Jet Cash.

Edited:

So you're saying that the user account's on Jet Cash's Ignore list will have its second chance like marlboroza did on giving red trust?...

Jet Aid was an impulse registration as a result of this thread. As I mentioned, most of the mod actions are punishments, and even the merit sytem was designed to create a barrier to ranking. Many members are helpful, but as far as I know, no member has tried an active policy of helping new members to maximise their experience here. There are numerous guides and helpful posts for various aspects of membership, but I don't believe that anyone has taken a holistic approach to forum membership.

Come on chipmixer campaigners, now is the time to prove your shilling skills. Prove that you're better than QS(at shilling) and abuse this vote, and make all the 5 chipmixer shills in the nominees, a mod, lol.
Jokes all aside, I have the least number of reports in comparison to everyone else in the "nominees". If I ever become a mod, I'd be a living hell for the shitposters in that board. I'll mostly go on a nuking spree, and delete the unnecessary posts. I don't really report because it's double work. But when there are better reporters, I think they deserve to be a mod more than me.

A few members are missing out, especially Krishanapramod, mdayonliner, ,xtraelv, Lafu, iasenko(These people more than 1000 reports IIRC).

I have to ask what's probably a stupid question, but how can I tell how many reports other members have made?  Is there a way to do that?  I know how to view my own number, but I've never seen a link to any statistics on anybody else.

No, pugman assumes that he has the least number of reports but you cannot check that, if the data is not publicly announced as theymos has done a few times before.
Thanks, that's what I thought but I've been known to miss important things here before.

I’d say that the ball is really still on the "where" and "when" area, rather than the "who". The former two questions are the important ones, alongside with the determination to go through with them. The “who” should be easily derivable from inner reporting stats, and voting on a poll should be amusing but probably render small no null results as outcome.

A moderator in certain context such as a debate is a nice position to have, and has a certain ring to it. Moderating a forum is a different thing, and on a forum such as this one, with all the spam, the attributions are less rewarding and more demanding in terms of stamina, stealth, criteria, and being able to deal with a cesspit of posts on a daily basis. Moderating here is a necessary task, albeit I gather not too rewarding.

I would presume that those people with a lengthy, accurate and stable track of reporting are better suited. That is not my case, since I report only what I encounter and that I’m pretty sure on. I do filter topics I read by number of posts in the thread, generally excluding any thread with more than 30 or so posts, or that has a non-appealing title, so I probably miss-out a fare share of spam that is easily detectable but that I do not encounter.

Perhaps quite a bit can be still done to aid reporting/mods in terms of automation and setting barriers to incessant spam in the first place, being more proactive than reactive. The latter is being pursued by @hilariousetc with resilience, and some of the proposals would certainly pull the plug and allow the pool to be drained to some extent, easing the task of the moderators.
