I know that many projects don't make such an online counter due to certain fraudulent attacks on the developers web site. I'm not sure if this is related to this project, just my guess

Probably, they are self-investors. Or are there some angel investors?
But I think that they don’t need too much money to write the code and the site, that's why the hard cap is only 3 million dollars. I think there was no investment and they just achieved their own forces.

How easy and fast is it to embed your code into a web site? Can it be any web site, even on a free domain?

   -   It is very easy to install, as once you’re whitelisted you'll be generated a unique code in the dashboard, which simply needs to be copy/pasted to your website’s body and it does the rest (similar to a Facebook pixel or an Analytics code, except it does not collect any data whatsoever). It unfortunately cannot run on a free domain.
