I think you've got to pick and choose your battles. Not every ICO is a scam attempt. The difference is sniffing out the project that are real which can take weeks of research if you want to be diligent about your investment.

ICOs should just get funded from VCs and do an airdrop to community.

Most ico can be done open source on github for free.. the greed in creating all of these project is stifling growth. A lot of innovation come from free open source project from passionate developers.

Im 3 years in this field and strictly advice you do not invest in any ico at all.

I understand your sentiments but you cannot stop investors to invest in the ico project whether it is good or not.
Aside from that, not all ICO are the same like what you are thinking dude, yes it is true that most of the ico
became shit since last year but not all of them. And scammers in any business will not be gone they are everywhere
as long as there is money that they could get it.

There are good ico projects that have good intentions as much as there are ones out with the intention of scamming unsuspecting investors.
I have realized that projects that are self funded mostly are very much committed to improving upon the blockchain technology than the ones that depend one investors fund.

Couldn't agree anymore, so I gave you a merit point.

Right now it is very difficult to distinguish and differentiate between a good project and a scam project. And despite repeated requests, neither the staff at Bitcointalk nor the other competent authorities have done anything to help us in this regard.

I am not saying that all the upcoming ICOs are scams. May be 2 or 3 out of 100 may be genuine. But my opinion is that it is not worth the risk. I got my fingers burnt with ICOs previously, so I am not going to jump in to them again unless there is some drastic change.

Yes, there are hundreds of ICO coming everyday. But not all are scams. It's just you need to find one which is definitely a tough task. We are over the phase where every other ICO was profitable. That in turn lead to more ICO. But today the ICO industry seems stagnant and it will remain the case until next hyper bullish cycle. Till then be cautious and research well before investing in an ICO. There are some really good out there.

I don't think the ICO ERA is completely dead but STO's now are becoming popular, that's security tokens/coins and people now are getting savvier and not just investing form one ICO to another ICO, as the 2017 ICO hoppers did. I do feel now more and more investors are taking crypto more seriously, so they are more likely to do their homework and due diligence before they invest their hard earned money into any crypto bags. It has on the other hand gotten harder for Bounty Hunting. I hardly made anything in 2018 form bounties, most ICOS were flops or scams. So am more choosy in the work I do regarding crypto now.

There have been some really good and profitable ICOs, but a lot of scams as well indeed. What I believe is that an investor should always do its own thorough research on the project he wants to invest in. You might have had some unpleasant experience with ICOs and that is totally understandable, but I think it is a bit extreme to not even at least check out the propositions of ICOs.

It is right, because even OP use newbie account to post something like this.  . Even in fact there are a lot of ICOs that are bad, investing in something always have risk, and investor must take that risk by themself. That is why we can't act carelessly if we are an investor.

Now the risk is very big to lose all funds , I think you need to first think carefully , and in your place I would not invest in ico at the moment

The bad opinion of people about ICO indeed makes everyone see that ico himself is no longer right now, adding to the emergence of IEO and STO trends

yeah I agree with you that many ICOs are now SCAMMING their community after they get a lot of money through selling their coins. if you still want to buy ICO you should learn more about it and their community

yep! you are right.
indeed a lot of ICO are bad, but there are many good ICO. so don't say all ICO is bad, we just need to work hard to find it. i have suffered losses several times at the ICO, but some other ICO can return my money and even make a profit.

this is crypto risk, profit and loss are always side by side.

For me, you can still invest on some ICO's but this time you need to be more picky on ICO's because most of the time price will fall when enter in exchange even there's a good team behind it and do not exit as a scam.

Agreed. ICO is a source of fund in market cap but there are lots potential project that can be more of good use even though they havent made any public sales in terms of ICO. It actually depends on how the project will be seen and displayed potential working product or can be applied to a lots of use case. Look some project without any ICO but still they have products. Owners of these kind of projects uses the their own money to fund their tech so you can see much seriousness with these kind of people.

It is sad to accept but most of the ICOs are just scam and there are just few ICOs that are legit and committed in the long run. Most of them are just here to scam people and steal people's money. Investors should wake up and realize that it is better to do trading rather than trying to catch some ICOs and hoping for a jackpot.

Maybe yes but the percentage is really lower than the possibilities, there's  a lot of scam project and we need to work with our investment ico's are there to work and find investors trust providing possible good outcome, it's investors position where  to put there money.
