Bitcoin and ethereum aren't the coin with highest capitalization in coinmarketcap, it is bitcoin and ripple that is by the way, Bitcoin still remain the most populous my advice for you is to invest in bitcoin but ethereum wouldn't be a bad choice also.

Another coin has now come in between the two and ETH is now on 3rd position, although it does not demean ETH.
If a coin is not growing as expected, then there might be no real development happening to it. Most times, when there is any development, it will be announced and that is what makes the price to grow. Although, recently ethereum has been seen to grow  and the it was growing despite not much significant growth on BTC.

I fully agree with your opinion and that ethereum and Bitcoin should be in each user's cryptocurrency portfolios. But lately, Bitcoin is still losing its relevance and it will continue to decline if Bitcoin does not really use it as a means of payment.

Invest in both, the way I see this, btc is the king of cryptocurrencies and all other coins try to equate with BTC. On the other hand eth is brilliant asset, for me technologically more sophisticated coin than btc, give it a chance. Btc in few weeks 4700-5000$ and then drop is expected, probably around 2500$ in value.
