CoinMarketCap only reflects tokens traded on various crypto exchanges with a volume of at least $ 50,000 per day. Therefore, you should not completely trust this resource. To invest more safely and purposefully, you should study the token and the project behind it more carefully than just keeping track of the statistics in the CMC.

I agree with you
We totally should focus more of our energy on the product token itself and not that platform that provides the information and hopefully this helps to get a more concrete result

According to NIST and ECRYPT II, the cryptographic algorithms used in Bitcoin are expected to be strong until at least 2030. (After that, it will not be too difficult to transition to different algorithms.)

Thanks for the info to ponder! Wink In my opinion, you should always think with your own head, and not rely on any platform, especially in the cryptocurrency world!

We have a different perception with CMC, some of us use CMC as their guide to see the increasing and decreasing of all coins while the other see CMC is a place to know about the statistic of the coins. And while the others don't care about CMC because they only care for what is happening in the market. I think CMC still safe until now and it depends on what we want to do with CMC and I think CMC is a website which gives so many information to every people especially to all traders who wants to know the information of the coins.

I’m starting to worry about coinmarketcap lately, after series of deceit and spammish activity
The following are my observed reasons

1. Many dead projects still on cmc

2. Market cap is fake Cox many projects which have seized to trade adds up to the market cap

3. Cmc doesn't verify authenticity of projects before listing it

4. CMC now have ads of fake icos on their website thereby leading people to scammers

Funny enough so many NOOBS believe anything and everything dey see on cmc to be authentic

Let me stop here and anyone against it should bring a proof to counter it
Or offer more options

cmc just listing most of cryptocurrencies my friend,
and cmc admin run an ads to make money from their website my friend
its still safe for me,, people should do their own research before investing to reduce the risk, and do not blame cmc for their own fault

Your exactly right mate. They're going to collect money from the successful finish ICO.

Some of the point you listed is true in fact before you can get listed on CMC your coin must have achieved a required amount of daily trading volume. That was when CMC is making sure they do not bring substandard coin to the list but today things have change and it all boils down who you know. your coin can still get listed on CMC even though your project have not make the requirement. I believe if the CMC continue to provide substandard coin in their listing site, alot of people will start to lost trust in the website and seek for other options to find what they actually want.

Okay and do you have some better site? I don´t think that someone will verify all 2200 crypto listed projects. That is impossible.

I know those interesting coin market caps website so far, in alternative to CMC:

* https://www.worldcoinindex.com/

I have not used coinmarketcap for a long time. I like coingecko more, it is more informative and functional.

Do not blindly trust everything you see in CMC. In fact, there are a large number of similar CMC sites where information may look slightly different than what you see in CMC. Always double-check this information in other alternative sources, such as Coingeco for example. This is a site that I sometimes trust much more than SMS.

I also think like that, many people always make coinmarketcap as a benchmark, even though coinranker is more interesting in my opinion, compared to coinmarketcap

Coinmarketcap is such a big help to me, when i wake up and before I retire I use it to check the price and volume of the coins I'm holding I don't care about the ads and the other coins as long as they give me a real-time value of the coin I'm holding.

I agree that this is input for CMC to be more competent, but if you see some altcoins that are scams. CMC always updates it. but again this is good to be a positive input for the parties and the CMC team.

Why we should worry about the coinmarketcap? Well, it is not about safe or not. CMC is a platform that list the coins based on their price rate, volume, and also other progress in the exchanges. The listing based on the track  and they are always renewed. If you think that many dead coins in CMC, you should know that many exchanges also consists of the dead coins, but they also consists of legit coins. It means that don't be too worried about CMC. Worried about what you feel now because it may drive you to panic.

I think you can't completely trust anyone. Even verified website. You need to check everything by yourself. So don't blame coinmarketcap.

CMC is still the only site we know for now when it comes to checking prices of coins. I believe there's some level to be attained before any coin is listed on CMC, and if the coin later falls below that level or standard, CMC should not be held for listing such coin.

I think you are very much wrong. Firstly cmc is a open source project they are not funded by anyone and not charged you for the information. What they do is collect some information how a information could be scam. It is wrong or right that's up to you. If you don't have any knowledge then it is hard to pick the right information. And the whole process is like coin can fill up the form to show their information about trading at cmc. If the coin is crossed some preset volume then cmc approved it add through the API. Just add the exchange API. That's it. And about scammy ico post. I show some it's not up to them it's from Google.

The safety allegation scared me, the 'safe' word is a serious word now and should be careful used before you cause heart attack for someone. Their are lots of options for the coins detail, you can search for that. THey are still meant to be compared with CMC, we need different sources for our information in such a market. All this information are still subjective

If there are dead coins and still in coinmarketcap, I think that is still a natural thing. Because coinmarketcap only provides information based on total market cap. If the total market cap is less, then the ranking is at the bottom. But the problem with the project being advertised there, then doing scams, can drop the coinmarketcap reputation.

Yes, I was also alarmed by the mention of CMC safe Smiley.

This site remains a good radar for initial investigation. Identifying fraudsters is not an CMC task. The user can determine if the project is scam.

This is just a site that is out to make profit. They are only providing the service of making investors to easily assess information on different coins at the same time.
Although, I understand that they need to be strict to some extent, but these guys still want to make some money.

I haven't used CMC for a long time because I prefer to immediately see the price situation in the market because in my opinion CMC is late in updating prices and sometimes not the same as market situation
