Advantage & disadvantage of new default trust (DT) selection system

Bitcointalk default trust (DT) selection system has been updated by Theymos recently. This new DT selection process opens a great chance for bitcointalk community members to choose their trusted person as a DT. I think this selection is unique but Still there is some advantage & disadvantage of this new DT selection process.



Advantage of new DT selection system

1. Previous DT selection system was centralized. It means Theymos was the only one in this forum who got the power of selecting DT members.After than who were added on DT1 custom trusted list got the DT2 position.  But now this system has been decentralized by hand over the DT selection power to bitcointalk community members. This new voting process giving us complete freedom to share our own thoughts and ideas.

2. Theymos new algorithm is completely unique. Which will show us instant update of Default trust selection policy.

3. If somehow by manipulating this system anyone being DT member still then others DT can exclusion him/her and its instantly possible in new DT policy.

Disadvantage of new DT selection system

1. In the new DT selection system you need 10 vote  from (10 earn merit holder) and 2 vote from ( 250 earn merit holder) to be elgible as a DT. I think its possible to manipulate this in many ways by using social media and direcetly asking vote by sending texts to other forum members.

Although I beleive bitcointalk new DT selection system advantage is much stronger than disadvantages.

The biggest advantage i've seen with this new change is that , active people who actualy care and try making our forum safer are elected.

Unlike what you are stating, it's imposible people go ask privately for a vote. They have such a big reputation in this forum, everybody knows, none of them would ever ask that. Plus they don't need too.

Is dt post a new means of searching for merit ever since the dt update was done we have seen several post about it some of which are not so different from those that was previously discussed before it.
Can the trend just stop and save the forum from discussing on issue that has already been discussed

Everybody is free to air their views that's why it's called a forum. If you see a post you don't like use the ignore button or better still visit other board and make your contribution. It's the meta board and things about the forum are meant to be discussed here. If you come across a topic that has already been discussed and you feel it shouldn't be on the board report the post and mod will have the final say.

Obviously this new DT selection system will bring complete freedom to bitcointalk community. Coz its the way how we can share our own opinion easily. Where in the previous policy it was totally handled by Theymos.

Not all would actually see if from this point of view,many users still have their doubts about the new system and it's mostly tagged users who are either bringing up complaints here and there about the new system,but all in all and from a neutral point of view I think the system works better for now and the changes to the system are well thought ones,and is put in place to reflect transparency that's very important on a decentralized platform.

Theymos isn't handling the forum from a "high table" and this decision on DT is further proof of that

Yeah in the new DT selection system theymos already given the responsibility to forum members to select their favourite one. Its a great step to make forum control related works much inclusive.

Its already been  proven that if anyone wants to make a place on the DT list it doesn't matters how much older or experienced you are, but it matters how many forum members know your activities & put their trust on you.

I think by this new default trust selection process theymos opened a competition among forum members to be much active and serve the forum.

Earned merits (subjective cycled low value and misleading score) - unrelated to trust.  Ignores merits given before airdrop and makes it seem like all contributions of older legends before airdrop are worth zero . When actually having a long time line of post history to review makes it far more useful with regard trust.

Should be related to activity + merit (low emphasis on merit) I would suggest the key 2 approvals should be tied to 1500 activity + 50 earned merits ( and total merit minimum of 1050)

Need a real game theory expert to design something that is not so easily and observably gamed already.

This system currently does the opposite to what I said needed doing. The 2 systems of control merit source and DT should separated - if you are a merit source you are not a DT

However of course some criteria should be introduced to give merit any real value

C'mon T, we both know that would only be due to the circlejerk and "The Cult of Lauda".. If you have 13k posts and high activity you should have a given spot in DT. I see no other metric that would make more sense actually.

Thanks that strengthens my argument nicely.

However as I said bring forth your great posts that demonstrate you can produce some original work that is thought inspiring and that has contributed great value to the forum .. or perhaps a debate where your posts show great insight and were very positive with regard reaching the optimal outcome.

I mean just any original work from you that demonstrates you are capable of making posts as insightful and thoughtful as other legends with less than 80 earned merits. Earned merits = nothing to do with trust. Earned merits = nothing to do with value of user and their posts.

Go have a debate with smooth, go have a debate with DZ, go have a debate with gjhiggins or any other of the ton of legends whom have value that is not even comparable to your own negative value ...and people that have been huge sums for communities that apparently are not as trustworthy as self confessed trust abuser as yourself who has been implicated in an extortion scheme.

Bring some sensible rebuttal and try to make a plausible refutation of my central points or just remain silent because your posts are net negative.

Can you add a circular arrow from DT1 back to DT1 saying "DT1 (dis)trusted custom list"?
And add "Member and up" to vote.
That makes it more complete.
