Are you sure about it that he did not make any announcement about his retirement ? In the fist Semi final of the WC,  when Dhoni was run out, i clearly heard the commentator saying that this is the last time we see Dhoni on the match.  Huh

Even i have found the commentary from the cricinfo where the commentator saying that "Dhoni is run out for the last time"

Quote
saying that this is the last time we see Dhoni on the match.  Huh
He meant it for World cup not other ODI matches.

This is quite possible that he would like to retire in India by playing for India in India itself . This will give him a good platform to retire in front of his own country people and bid adieu to the cricket. That may be the reason he might have just not announced the retirement yet.
This is a good theory. May be you are right however I would like to see him to play as long as he wants. Dhoni is a brand for Indian cricket and his existence gives the team extra boost. Everyone knows when Dhoni is in the pitch India will not lose the match.

The first of 10 T20 World Cup qualifiers start tomorrow with Singapore v Qatar, these matches may not mean much to most people on here however its good to see how these countries are coming along as most are new to playing cricket. Nepal looks to be the best team in this tournament and should qualify for the T20 World Cup. Not sure how the other countries go as I haven't seen them play much, Qatar I believe are an okay team.

This is not the first T20WC 2020 qualifier. Out of the 5 regions, 3 have completed the regional qualifying tournaments. The Asian qualifier will start from tomorrow, and a total of 5 teams are taking part. The last is the American qualifier, scheduled for August.

I am not very excited about this format. They have given only one slot for Asia (only the winner of the regional qualifier will participate in the global qualifying tournament), while they gave two slots each to Africa and Americas. Asia has some very strong teams like Nepal and Malaysia, and this is very unfair to them. On the other hand, weak teams such as the USA and Bermuda are being given cakewalks, so that they can qualify for the global qualifier.

Only 4 teams are taking part in the American qualifier (Canada, USA, Bermuda, Caymans) and two will go to the global qualifying tournament. It is very unfair to give these teams an advantage when compared to Nepal/Malaysia/Singapore.

Its good to see more and more countries like Qatar and Singapore improving in the world of Cricket, but they face a long battle ahead since the competition is tough in every way. Lets see how far they go.

For example, Afghanistan has been improving slowly and steadily, but still managed to lose every single match in the World Cup though there were a few close calls.

Somewhere this countries have to start and it is better ate than never. Also we have seen how Afghanistan a new entry in recent years have started playing so much good cricket and Bangladesh are capable of beating top teams itself shows that this new countries have a good scope in future.

Anyway, good to see that team like Netherlands, Qatar, Nepal and some other young teams are coming into the competition. May be in the next 30 to 50 years from now we will see some very different test nations and world cup winners.

Yes I agree with you on that it isn't fair for the Asian countries trying to qualify but I guess its because we already have teams from this region like India, Pakistan and Sri Lanka and that they want a mix of teams from around the world. I don't agree with it as to only have four countries from the Americas competing and the top two qualify isn't fair at all.

This is cricket and not football where you need to represent countries from all over the world. Instead of global qualifier from the regions, we should have the best qualifiers regardless of the regions so that only the best teams qualifies for T20 world cup. I also think that cricket is not a popular sports in American region.

Srilanka is playing world cup since the beginning. They have won the title of ODI champion in 1996 world cup, had no 1 in test cricket, won t20 world cup in 2014. They are worst now.

Completely forgot that teams like Kenya and Zimbabwe even existed which is why I am honestly not shocked to see them go. Its all about entertainment value at the end of the day and these 2 teams failed to deliver.

Netherlands and Ireland seem like much better replacements in this regard and I feel that they can provide much better entertainment value in the long term.

Kenya was a much better team in back in the days than the current team. They played semi in 2003, I remember we used to have enjoyed at that point when Bangladesh won a match against Kenya. It was not that easy for Bangladesh to win a match against them those days.

Kenya was a much better team in back in the days than the current team. They played semi in 2003, I remember we used to have enjoyed at that point when Bangladesh won a match against Kenya. It was not that easy for Bangladesh to win a match against them those days.

Just for Lolz

I remember this Kenya, see the highest run scorer from Indian side, Its Harbhajan singh  Grin not including Zimbabwe team, they knocked down some heavy weight in world cricket as well.

Kenya was a very promising team once. They had master batsmen like Morris Odumbe, Steve Tikolo, two brothers Andy Flower, Grand Flower, Heath Streak, Henry Olonga, Neil Johnson, Alistair Campbell. These players were world class at that time. It was not easy to beat them always even though they used to be underdog every time.

Kenya just could not produce good cricketers like them anymore.

^^^^ Their biggest upset victory was against West Indies in 1996, during the world cup. And back then, West Indies was one of the powerhouses. Steve Tikolo and Maurice Odumbe formed the backbone of the Kenyan team then. Thomas Odoyo played in that match as a 17-year old. After the retirement of Tikolo and Odumbe, the responsibility fell on his shoulders. Had he hailed from some test nation, then Thomas Odoyo would have become a cricketing legend.

Lol, Harbajan was not that bad batsman. He has 2 centuries in test.
Like as Royse said, Kenya wasn't able to produce good players. In 2000, Kenya started to spend all of their budgets for cricket into the national team, they didn't spend in grassroots which was the main cause they weren't able to get good players later.

I hardly remember things from 1996 except some discrete memory of watching Sri Lanka was playing cool cricket. Ranatunga and his gang Sanath Jayasuriya, Aravinda de Silva, young vaas, Marvan Atapattu, Young Muttiah Muralitharan etc.

I just watched the highlight from the link and it was a low scoring match. WI were only able to manage 93 runs LOL

@royse : one small correction, it appears to me that you mixed up Kenyan and Zimbabwe players together.

@vishnu : I am looking for all old upset recordings these days. Will start from year 1975.

@pffrt : lol yeah, he was actually hit and miss kind of batsman and will look into " messi education".

PS: using phone and bit lazy to quote all 3 of you in one post Tongue

Slowly the team got disappeared. These teams doesn't have good support from the governments. Also there isn't any special support provided in all way. Once kenya stood above the Bangladesh among the top list. Now they have got thrown out of the top list. Kenya once again rebuilding their teams is really very hard.

Singapore won their match against Qatar by 33 runs, Qatar just weren't able to put partnerships together while Singapore top order played well to set a decent sized target which I thought was always going to be hard for Qatar to chase down. Malaysia also won their match which was to be expected against Kuwait.
