Nothing surprising here. The Indian players who don't get lucky in India just go to other countries to get noticed and acquire good money. You can find them in many teams around the world these days.
I do not think that they are moving to different countries thinking of playing cricket, most of these players migrated to other countries a decade earlier because their parents took those decisions for a better living and cricket being the passion they are playing for their migrated country, majority of the teams have players from India and Pakistan and it is not surprising as cricket is in their blood.

Didn't know this team as well playing cricket, probably missed somehow. Singapore player a long innings.
Janak Prakash, an all rounder, is the man of the match. Can anyone confirm where he is from? Don't say India please. Most of this types of team are formed of Indian player.

Not much written about this 18yo all-rounder. He represented u19 team for Singapore as well but can't even find his first-class stats. So he yet to make some name for himself.

About nationality - Singapore has a considerable amount of population from India, more precisely South India -Tamil- so don't get shocked Tongue

In fact if you pick any associate members in World cricket you are going to find couple of familiar names from Indian Subcontinent, some countries are exception such as China, Myanmar, Japan, Korea, Iran as far as i know.

some countries are exception such as China, Myanmar, Japan, Korea, Iran as far as i know.
And for this reason, they are having very bad time consistently, look at their scores against Maldive, Nepal, Myanmar, Singapore. They always had a low score like 30, 36, etc. Lol. It will take a huge time for China to be established in cricket.

Singapore won their match against Qatar by 33 runs, Qatar just weren't able to put partnerships together while Singapore top order played well to set a decent sized target which I thought was always going to be hard for Qatar to chase down. Malaysia also won their match which was to be expected against Kuwait.
Singapore has made its win against Qatar on the world cup T20 qualifier. It is good to see both the teams having Indian players. The player of the match Surendran Chandramohan seems to be an Indian from his name. Same is with other players like Manpreet Singh of Singapore, Janak Prakash, Chetan Suryawanshi of Qatar.
Just wondering, are you guys watching these matches or just getting the scores? I personally would not bother to watch those low valued (I hope I do not offend anyone) matches :-)

When is the India vs West Indies T20 series is on? I do not know why, but I think West Indies will win this series LOL

You are partially right. Some do move there during their childhood and pursue their passion while there are many who travel as adults from India to other countries as I said earlier.

Starts on August 3rd I believe which is a couple of weeks away. Why in the world would you expect West Indies to win? Even if some major players are resting, the Indian lineup will most probably decimate West Indies.

Even I do not know who are playing and who are not playing for West Indies. I guess it's the brand that West Indies are a team of T20 :-)

In short form of cricket like T20 any team can be dominative if they have hard hitting batsman.

@Hanebu watch out Cheesy There is a good chance that Windies giving tough fight to Indians, almost all T-20 specialist are back in team including Pollard,Narine.

On the other hand India figuring out right combination for T-20 World Cup, Leave Top order out then you will witness some new face and the one who are making comeback in the squad, so mixed feeling from my side. excited for Shyras Iyer though.

We have a good amount of encounter to watch in August, could be busy month with India touring windies and upcoming Ashes.

@Little Mouse : Never watched those games so far but would love to dig in sometime if i have enough time.

We have a separate topic for T20 discussion: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5102095.0 :-)

Back to the Gayle thing, I do not know any update available about his retirement but it's very much predictable that he will retire from ODIs if he can not perform well but for T20s - he is still non-replaceable I think and Gayle should carry on to it.

Posting here since this is the T20-related thread.

It's really sad that Gayle in not playing in T20s as he is the best player suited for this format. In ODIs, I understand that his performance is bad while for T20s, WI needs him as their previous performance against India was miserable. I've never seen a player in IPL who could hit 6s back-to-back like Gayle and   once he sets in, he is capable of taking the score to 200+.

Indians are less than 10% of the population of Singapore, and yet 100% of their cricket players are from the Indian community (and a majority were born in India as well). There is no representation from the Han and Malay ethnic groups, which constitute for more than 90% of the population.

Japan, Korea.etc used to have mostly native players in their squad. But the situation has changed now. Their current squads are almost 50% Indian. Teams such as China, Myanmar, Iran are nowhere in the picture. They don't "qualify for the qualifiers".

I would like to see Gayle continues in the T20 as long as he is fit to play. Seeing him in the pitch means bonus excitement.

I am also from India and I don't want cricket to get restricted to South Asia. It is just a small dot in the world map. Even other teams are getting Asian dominated, such as USA and Canada. I want cricket to be a global sport like football. Rugby world cup is ongoing right now, and even this little known sport has 20 teams participating in the tournament from all the inhabited continents.

That's why we need more and more cricket playing nations. When the popularity of a sport gains in a country then it starts attracting youngsters. It also requires management, which a board does. Everything is about business when a board will see money is coming they will invest and in this process we will see cricket payers from all race.

It will take time. 50 years, 100 years or may be 200 years or more.

In which sport China is leading? I don't know. May be I'm not aware of. However, coach doesn't put much value unless you don't have quality player. They need to create player from the root generation. I see it is not possible in near future.

Just wondering, are you guys watching these matches or just getting the scores? I personally would not bother to watch those low valued (I hope I do not offend anyone) matches :-)
Which channel will be telecasting those matches and i am not aware of any channels telecasting those matches, they are just posting these scores and i will not spend my time to watch those matches either, too much cricket around and if we start watching those matches we get a feeling that we could also get to play for their national team Cheesy.

In which sport China is leading? I don't know. May be I'm not aware of. However, coach doesn't put much value unless you don't have quality player. They need to create player from the root generation. I see it is not possible in near future.
They have some world class Badminton and Table Tennis players and some Olympians in Swimming.

I thought the same too. That will be too much cricket LOL
One of the reason for cricket not being watched by too many people is duration to finish a match. However T20 matches are helping cricket to get more exposure. But for a real cricket fan, Test and ODIs are the best format and satisfactory to watch.

Lol, that's the reason why I can't watch cricket lately. Although I was captain of my local team on childhood but after being mature I have no enough patience to watch cricket game. I can't remember name which country blocked cricket due to duration. However, I love to know result instead of watch full cricket game.

This is somewhat true. Specially after the introduction of T20 matches, ODI feels like a long time to be in front of the TV.
We might even move towards even a shorter format with maybe less number of players. Say a 10 over game with just 6 players to play and field.

some countries are exception such as China, Myanmar, Japan, Korea, Iran as far as i know.
And for this reason, they are having very bad time consistently, look at their scores against Maldive, Nepal, Myanmar, Singapore. They always had a low score like 30, 36, etc. Lol. It will take a huge time for China to be established in cricket.

China being a leader on most of the sports lacking on cricket is unbelievable. Soon we can expect some of the leading cricketers around the world to coach the Chinese cricket team. They won't prefer Indian cricketers as there is some conflict on the border issue... Lol Wink

The problem here is that cricket is not an Olympic sport. The Chinese government (and the majority of the governments around the world) don't supports sports that are not part of the Olympics. On the other hand, the Olympic sports receive a lot of funding and grants from the government. And this is exactly the reason why FIFA pushed very hard to get football included in the Olympics. Financially, it was a loss making exercise for FIFA. But in the long term, it proved to be an intelligent tactic, to spread the popularity of football.

The older generation consider that the only form of cricket is test match because in that you can judge the true capability of a cricketer but I've seen that so many times the matches end up with no result. T20 puts too much pressure on the cricketers and doesn't give them anytime to settle down and hence we see that atleast 2 wickets fall in the first 7-8 overs as even the openers want to start scoring for the second over itself. But IPL has changed things in India where we get to see great batsmen all in one team. I still remember how Delhi Daredevils had 5 batsmen that were the best cricketers coming together from different countries.
