Once again you are blaming Prasidh Krishna, while ignoring the role played by Axar Patel in India's defeat. Prasidh bowled a really good 18th over, by conceding just 6 runs. I think India can win that match if Yashasvi Jaiswal stays on the pith for a long time, and Ishan Kishan also doesn't play well, and the captain of India, the no.1 batsman of T20 also doesn't do well. Yes, I am talking about Surya Kumar.

In white ball cricket Axar is senior to these new cricketers and has a decent amount of exposure in red ball, still new at the international level (Tests) but more than enough exposure if we count his Ranji experience.

If Pant regains his usual form and fitness then he would be the strongest contender for captaincy but only in Red ball cricket because for red ball you have to consider Home/Away conditions as well and he fits the bill for every condition. Rahul can challenge him in the test format if he starts working on his wicket-keeping, especially on turning wickets, plus agrees to bat in the middle order.
