I wanted to start a topic for beginners, and to help them to learn a bit about Bitcoin price movements, and it seemed to start reasonably well. However it has been moved onto the speculation board, and I think this is a spammers board and I have it on ignore, so I will not be revisiting the thread.

In my opinion, if you want new blood in the Bitcoin Talk forum, then you need to allow new members to discuss topics like this, and they won't be visiting the minor domains of the bounty spammers, unless they are just trying to boost their membership and spam sigs. It's getting harder to find good and interesting general topics here, and if the mods keep pissing off members who are actively trying to remedy this, then it will get even worse.

Can we have some sort of policy decision on the direction BT is to take in the future, and a bit of training for some of the mods might help as well.

Could you not just start a new thread on the speculation board that's self moderated?

I personally would suggest moving it back 😂 but that's just me... You could always leave a note for the mods not to move it and check its response. Although imo it is more of a speculation board topic.

I think the idea of 'spammers boards' should be to try to produce meaningful non spammy topics which yours would have been. Perhaps merging economics and speculation is what's needed...

Mods don't really need training, cause all of them know their shit all too well. The mods were only appointed after their year(s) of experience in reporting, and there are hardly any new mods, the last newly appointed mod was Welsh and he was modded months ago, it must be at least 6 or more months since that happened.

You're wrong about it this, Speculation Board isn't really a spam-fest. A lot of good posters post there, and the spam isn't(comparatively) bad. You could just unignore the section, if it bothers you so much, or don't bother creating topics at all.

Thanks Jack, but I really hoped for some comments by brand new members,  their posts seem to be considered flatus by many of the members on the speculation and mining boards, but maybe that has changed recently. However, I don't think it will be an early port of call for them, and they could be put off by talk of EMA ribbons, fibonacci retracement, and bollinger bands. They want to know about volatility, and how to buy coins without wasting money. They also need to be deflected away from buying Bitcoin Cash instead of Bitcoin. This is why I thought it was essential for the thread to be in beginners and help. The purpose of the board is in the name.

@Pugman - In view of the loss of valuable members, and the comments about the decline in quality posting, maybe it is time for a change of mods, or at least a change in policy. See my reply to JackG for my reason for not putting the thread in speculation, Beginners need to discuss with other beginners sometimes, and not be subject to belittling comments by the experienced - this is why we have a beginners and help board, isn't it?

Re: your comment about my not posting: you are the second person to suggest this, and the last time I had to go to other forums to glean the information I needed. Also, I'm teaching myself to become a Forex scalper, and I'm doing this with the help of YouTube, as I didn't feel that I could get the interaction here. I really do want to interact with new Bitcoin users in foreign countries, so maybe the best place to do this is to discuss the topic on non-crypto boards, I already do it in McDonalds and such places.

When we know that speculation board is a spam fest then we need strict moderation there but don't expect to use other boards with irrelevant subject.

Unignore the board, create another thread in self-moderated mode, delete every single spam that comes your way in your thread, and keep doing what you want.
You don't really need to visit anything outside your thread in that board if you think that the board is full of spammers. Just open your thread, do your work, and get out of the board without paying any attention to the other threads that bother you.

Surprisingly, the beginners' board is the board for beginners. I made a mistake in posting a beginners thread there, and I now realise that the forum policy is to post such beginners' topics in the advanced specialist boards that the beginners don't visit. I apologise to the forum, and I won't make the mistake again. I'll leave such topics to others to not post.

You topic was like known how to understand price movement and to be able to predict how it would go. Well that's is a constant sure price movement prediction no matter how professional we are. So it's also a form of speculating and it right if it's on the speculation board.
It's bad that that section has been infested with spammers.

Yeah, but it's not surprising that it is a haven for shitposters.  All you have to do is write a few words about where you think bitcoin is headed, and the post will basically be on-topic even if it is garbage.

Although I tend to think technical analysis is a bunch of voodoo garbage, there are some members in that section who are hardcore TA enthusiasts, and they do put some work into their posts and some members do find that useful.  I've posted in Speculation quite a few times, usually when the price is moving and I'm getting excited about it--but mostly it's the same threads and posts repeated over and over, and it's not one of my favorite sections.

Jet Cash, I know you're trying to help the newbies, but they're allowed to read and post in sections other than B&H and if a thread about price movements seems more appropriate for Speculation, then that's where it should be.  I've had B&H on ignore for a long time, so I don't even know what they discuss there.  I would think questions about basic crypto stuff would be the norm and not market speculation.  

It was already suggested that maybe you could request a mod to keep your thread in the B&H section as a favor to you, and that might work if you feel strongly about it--I don't see what the big deal with that would be, since you're aiming to help the beginners.  That's up to the mods, obviously.  And as jackg suggested you could make a self-moderated thread, but chances are that if it's in the Speculation section no one will reply there and it'll get buried in no time.

Lol, exactly.  And funny you mentioned the "buy low, sell high" thing, because that's what most of the posts there boil down to.  In fact, that's true of some other sections as well.

Thanks for the replies, but they really just show that the speculation board was not the place for it. The thread was not about TA, but was really about fundamentals, whale activity, and market sentiment. If you try to throw TA at most newbies, it will turn them off Bitcoin permanently, and that isn't what we want.

Every post on the beginners' board could be on another board, but they are there because they are basic posts to help beginners' acclimatise themselves to Bitcoin. The sooner the mods take this on board, the sooner Bitcoin Talk will be able to recruit the stars of the future.

Anyway, I've had my rant so if the mods want to unlock it, somebody else can take it over if they think it is useful. The taste of the thread has soured a bit for me, so I will have to leave it to you guys. I have started a couple of similar threads in other forums, and I'll probably come back with some reports as a result. It's starting to look as if the predictable issues are still deterrents - The use for crime, and the difficulty of use.

This is a question I've been thinking if for a while.

Why do we have a vaguely named board wituout rules but is still moderated on the forum to move beginners questions on other sections.

It's also strange that it is placed in other when it seems to be a bitcoin board. Altcoin topics get moved out of it to so it leaves me confused as to the purpose of the board (no one say it is to help beginners that is too vague).

The primary and basic knowledge of each and every field shall become the part of beginners and help board.  Beginners need to know a to z about the forum. 
So I think this board is the classroom where the beginners may be wanting to know any subject of their choice they are interested about any division / board of this forum.
Whatever is taught here will relate to some or the other board.

Get a grip of yourself man you sound more like a wussy every day. Were you an only child per chance? Imagine you were getting treated like some of us here who don't not bow down and support corrupt and dishonest people. However it is great lately to notice many others are not happy with this abuse of the systems provided.

Your post was in a mods opinion better suited to another board. Just accept it. At least this is a grey area and not a blatant abuse of power for personal reasons that are in contrast to the very purpose of the system they are operating from.

Just chill about it. This is not an example of a huge breach of moderation powers against you personally. I doubt they even looked at the user who started the thread. Just noticed it was more suitable elsewhere and moved it there.

Speculation seems just as good a place for that thread as beginners ... you have to be careful what kind of thing is put in there. Even slightly misleading or incorrect advice even if well meaning could have catastrophic implications if followed blindly by a noob. I understand the precautionary nature of the mods there on this kind of thing. It should actually be the most moderated and babied section.

Seems like a nothing burger issue just continue it on speculation or make another one that is more suitable to beginners and link to it from inside that one if you want it specifically for noobs to find.


Speculation section is needed on this board so I am not sure why people would question it's legitimacy.
