Focus Areas: Alternative subsections and Beginner & help board

Reason for application: I'm not just submitting this application because I'm out of smerits but after studying the alternative subsections for some time I can to a conclusion that it needs some attention like we have given to the Bitcoin section (baords and childboards) and made it conducive for proper discussions.  I'm the type that loves helping and I'll love to render my assistance to the forum by being a merit source to help merit members with decent/quality post on the board as the merit allocation on the subsection is low resulting to users flooding other merit active boards in search of merits.

I believe if this board had special merit sources appointed to handle merit awarding on the board, we could reduce the rate inwhich forum members visit meta and other active merit board and also increase quality posting on the board. Here are some statistics to support my claims.

If you want to be a merit source:

 1. Be a somewhat established member.

I believe I can be classified as a "somehow established" (quality posting) member having ranked up twice recently in the period of 2 and the half months (from member to full member followed by senior member) And have been merited in numerous occasions by reputed, other well established members.

Before now I have supported numerous newbies/members ranked up by meriting their quality posts and was named among Top supporters of newbies and also among most meriter and merited on beginner and help board for a specific month and I'm positive I'll be among the tops ranks if overall statistics are published based on my merit sent and received history.

I have also been a huge fan of the initiative Report unmerited good posts to Merit Source and have support it by reporting posts and they have been considered decent/quality and received merits from reputed merit sources that's to point out I know what quality post are when I see one. I also keep the most recent and updated list of merit reviewing thread for quality poster that their post must have been missed my meriters for one reason or another. All these I have done to help forum members and I would love to do more as a merit source.

Quote
Collect TEN posts

Having given the above reason why I want to be a merit source, below are my 10 quality post as required for application. I picked them all from the alternative subsection as that'll be my board of focus for hunting for quality posts. Although if I come across quality posts on other boards they'll receive the merits they deserve too. The 10 posts are classified in this manner

1-3: Altcoin mining board
4-7:  Altcoin discussion board
8-10: Altcoin marketplace board.

Below are the 10 posts;

In the following you get an overview of current 'plug&play' GUI Miner.
Especially newcomers can use it to gain their first mining experience fast & easy.

The evaluation will be based on the following criteria:

Minimum withdrawal amount: Amount that has to be reached to initiate a withdrawal

Withdrawal Fee: Fee to be paid for a withdrawal

Auto. Mode / Manual Mode: Is it possible to switch manually between the coins or is this done automatically?

A few days ago, one member on forum asked how to bypass the ""Cannot find Signature" as he was trying to update his D3 miner, while this still applies to BTC miners too, so i decied to make this topic on this board, if the mods feel like it belongs to alts, please move it.

the initial thread to the guy's question can be found here > https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5088793.0

i gave him the soluation in step-by-step manner, so it's kinda hard to follow the whole process frorm the topic, as there were a couple of different posts, so what i am going to do here is basically combine the whole steps into 1 to make it easier to follow, if you want to check how did that guy do it and what difficulites he faced you can refer to the topic, also i would like to acknowledge that i used this russian website to learn about this method and it's only fair to post the link even if you can't read russian , i still feel the need for giving credit to the author.

Code:
vi upgrade.cgi

6-use the down arrow and find this code

Code:
if [ ! -f runme.sh.sig ]; then
        echo "Cannot Find Signature!!!" >> /tmp/upgrade_result
else
        openssl dgst -sha256 -verify /etc/bitmain-pub.pem -signature  runme.sh.sig  runme.sh >/dev/null  2>&1
        res=$?
        if [ $res -eq 1 ]; then
                echo "Installer Not Signtured!!!" >> /tmp/upgrade_result
        else
                if [ -f runme.sh ]; then
                        sh runme.sh
                else
                        echo "Incorrect firmware!!!!" >> /tmp/upgrade_result
                fi
        fi

#       sh runme.sh
#else
#       echo "Incorrect firmware!!!!" >> /tmp/upgrade_result
#fi

7-click "i" on your keyboard to enter Edit Mode

8- change the code in step 6 to this code

" you don't have to delete or add any code, reffer to the comment below the code to understand more.

Code:
# if [ ! -f runme.sh.sig ]; then
      #  echo "Cannot Find Signature!!!" >> /tmp/upgrade_result
#else
 #  openssl dgst -sha256 -verify /etc/bitmain-pub.pem -signature  runme.sh.sig  runme.sh >/dev/null  2>&1
# res=$?
# if [ $res -eq 1 ]; then
 #   echo "Installer Not Signtured!!!" >> /tmp/upgrade_result
 #else
#    if [ -f runme.sh ]; then
#   sh runme.sh
 # else
# echo "Incorrect firmware!!!!" >> /tmp/upgrade_result
# fi
 # fi
#fi

if [ -f runme.sh ]; then
   sh runme.sh
else
       echo "Incorrect firmware!!!!" >> /tmp/upgrade_result
fi

"add # to the first 15 lines, and remove # from the next 5 lines"

* adding # meaning the line is commented aka won't be executed, so what you doing is simply making the miner ignore that IF function that looks for the signature.

9-type

Code:
:wq

this code is to save and exist the upgrate file.

10-type
Code:
:q

to exist the SSH session.

11-flush the new firmware.

------------------------------------
*do this at your own risk

if you have any questions feel free to ask.

Good luck.

How to Mine

Pools
Pools with stats and fees:
Monero pools and stats

RYO pools and stats

Recommended RYO pools for decentralization
http://RYO.elevenpool.com/

All in One - AMD, NVIDIA, CPU

XMR-AEON-RYO-STAK 2.4
Unified All-in-one Monero, Aeon, RYO and other Cryptonote miner

+ Good hashrate
+ Easy to use
+ Statistics
+ Web stats
+ Based on Wolf miner
+ Low wattage
+ Still in development
+ Support AMD, NVIDIA, CPU
+ GPU + CPU mining at once
+ Support for more pools connection

- 2% fee
- Hashrate is not highest

Instructions

Insert pool address, wallet and password, nicehash support, tls, and pool weight.
If you run XMR-STAK.exe without config.txt it will guide you to make one in the CLI.

Monero
Code:
"pool_list" :
[
{"pool_address" : "indeedminers.eu:1111", "wallet_address" : "49gbAsWVZzh2UjRSW8Y5nXjhrvftsyZXJPcULYvUsWNMcFdLNfJBVq9L233ZQ9s3ucefrGCGk9RucfiN83U3VdqyFvZJBxF", "pool_password" : "x", "use_nicehash" : true, "use_tls" : false, "tls_fingerprint" : "", "pool_weight" : 10 },
{"pool_address" : "pool.usxmrpool.com:5555", "wallet_address" : "49gbAsWVZzh2UjRSW8Y5nXjhrvftsyZXJPcULYvUsWNMcFdLNfJBVq9L233ZQ9s3ucefrGCGk9RucfiN83U3VdqyFvZJBxF", "pool_password" : "x", "use_nicehash" : false, "use_tls" : false, "tls_fingerprint" : "", "pool_weight" : 5 },
],

RYO
Code:
"pool_list" :
[
{"pool_address" : "pool.RYO.hashvault.pro:7777", "wallet_address" : "RYOo5m3nPgJShdJEf5yRGUEq8cM8Fb9QTxCx33TEUgu9ncyXgssJ5JAuK1DfdjdEjfJZypyPeQQsVas9oAdE7ktAAMGxbcncP9", "pool_password" : "x", "use_nicehash" : true, "use_tls" : false, "tls_fingerprint" : "", "pool_weight" : 10 },
{"pool_address" : "pool.RYO.hashvault.pro:5555", "wallet_address" : "RYOo5m3nPgJShdJEf5yRGUEq8cM8Fb9QTxCx33TEUgu9ncyXgssJ5JAuK1DfdjdEjfJZypyPeQQsVas9oAdE7ktAAMGxbcncP9", "pool_password" : "x", "use_nicehash" : false, "use_tls" : false, "tls_fingerprint" : "", "pool_weight" : 5 },
],

Currency must be monero! RYO is Monero fork.
Code:
"currency" : "monero",

Then you can tweak each CPU.txt, NVIDIA.txt or AMD.txt for best hashrate, refer here in categories.
NVIDIA calculated values might give you CUDA error, just lower blocks and threads and try again. It's memory allocation problem usually.

Commands
Make bat file with xmr-stak [OPTION].
Code:
Usage: xmr-stak [OPTION]...

  -c, --config FILE     common miner configuration file
  -h, --help            show this help

Note: Antivirus might block it.

AMD

Recommended drivers:AMD Radeon Adrenalin Edition 18.6.1 Driver

Monero is best to mine with AMD CPU should be still profitable, NVIDIA is profitable but has lower hashrate than AMD.

XMR-STAK-AMD
+ Good hashrate
+ Easy to use
+ Statistics
+ Web stats
+ Based on Wolf miner
+ Low wattage
+ Still in development

- 1% fee
- Hashrate is not highest

Instructions

Number of GPUs, if you have 6, so put there 6.
Code:
"gpu_thread_num" : 1,

This line is for every GPU, for 6 GPUs paste this line 6 times.  You need numbering index. Start with 0, if you have 6 cards you will end with last index 5.
There are possible tweaks in intensity and worksize for better hashrate.
Code:
{ "index" : 0, "intensity" : 1000, "worksize" : 8, "affine_to_cpu" : false },

Insert pool address, wallet and password

Monero
Code:
"pool_address" : "pool.supportxmr.com:3333",
"wallet_address" : "4A6G5JmSNiULxE2BeuobfTaMFC2LcLJQ4XwQpgzUf7GMFjKGFzBz1N42538xQ4XZire1pN4veMniiWnFw62YV5GsV1hVz26",

"pool_password" : "x",

To enable web stats you need to put port, use some free ports like 16000

Code:
"httpd_port" : 0,

Output control
Press 'h' (hashrate), 'r' (results) or 'c' (connection) to print reports.

If you have OpenCL problem try input 1 instead of 0

Code:
"platform_index" : 0,

Comparison

Since I've showed you my stats on my 5 card mixed rig I will continue with it. It's not the highest you can have with RX cards.
Total hashrate with 2x RX 470 and 3x RX 480.
First is XMR-STAK-AMD 1.4.0 - tweak conf, second is Claymore XMR 9.7 - stock conf, and third is SGminer 5.5.5 - tweak conf.

NVIDIA

Recommended drivers: CUDA 9

XMR-STAK-NVIDIA
+ Great hashrate
+ Easy to use
+ Statistics
+ Web stats
+ Low wattage
+ Still in development

- 2% fee

Instructions

Start the miner, it will give you recommended settings for your cards.

Insert pool address, wallet and password

Monero
Code:
"pool_address" : "pool.supportxmr.com:3333",
"wallet_address" : "4A6G5JmSNiULxE2BeuobfTaMFC2LcLJQ4XwQpgzUf7GMFjKGFzBz1N42538xQ4XZire1pN4veMniiWnFw62YV5GsV1hVz26",
"pool_password" : "x",

RYO
Code:

"pool_password" : "x",

To enable web stats you need to put port, use some free ports like 16000

Code:
"httpd_port" : 0,

This code is for every GPU, for 6 GPUs paste this part 6 times. If you start the miner with "null" instead of this, it will generate settings for all your cards. You need numbering index. Start with 0, if you have 6 cards you will end with last index 5.
Code:
  { "index" : 0,
    "threads" : 80, "blocks" : 30,
    "bfactor" : 6, "bsleep" :  25,
    "affine_to_cpu" : false,
  },

You can tweak your hashrate with threads and blocks
Choose Value for threads and blocks
https://github.com/fireice-uk/xmr-stak-nvidia#tune-performance-configtxt

The optimal parameter for the threads and blocks option in config.txt depend on your GPU. For all GPU's with a compute capability >=2.0 and <6.0 there is a restriction of the amount of RAM that can be used for the mining algorithm. The maximum RAM that can be used must be less than 2GB (e.g. GTX TITAN) or 1GB (e.g. GTX 750-TI). The amount of RAM used for mining can be changed with "threads" : T, "blocks : B".

    T = threads used per block
    B = CUDA blocks started (should be a multiple of the multiprocessors M on the GPU)

For the 2GB limit the equations must be full filled: T * B * 2 <= 1900 and B mod M == 0. The value 1900 is used because there is a little data overhead for administration. The GTX Titan X has 24 multiprocessors M, this means a valid and good starting configuration is "threads" : 16, "blocks : 48" and full fill all restrictions 16 * 48 * 2 = 1536 and 48 mod 24 = 0.

The memory limit for NVIDIA Pascal GPUs is 16 GiB if the newest CUDA driver is used.
Windows or Linux Interactive Usage

To work (surf) with you desktop system while you are running the miner you need to find a good value for bfactor and bsleep. On windows, you need to set the option bfactor and bsleep if the miner crashs shortly after starting. A good value to start on windows is "bfactor" : 6, "bsleep" : 25. To reach the maximum hash rate you must set both values to zero "bfactor" : 0, "bsleep" : 0.

Output control
Press 'h' (hashrate), 'r' (results) or 'c' (connection) to print reports.

The popularity of cryptocurrency exchanges in recent years caused the appearance of the number of schemes which enable to launder money received with help of illegal measures. That’s why the governments of some countries as well as owners of crypto exchanges aware regarding the protection themselves against money laundering. As the result, the specific regulations regarding AML/KYC procedure was developed in order to secure the cryptocurrency sphere from fraud. This process has its advantages and disadvantages for cryptocurrency exchanges. Despite the protection, the KYC/AML procedure also goes against the important principle of the crypto world such as privacy.

KYC procedure is the process of customer identity verification. As usual cryptocurrency exchanges verify their customers in order to protect themselves from illegally obtained funds. Such a process is called AML - Anti Money Laundering. Money laundering is the legalization of funds obtained by criminal means which includes actions that conceal the source of funds in order to give them a legal character. The fight against money laundering in cryptocurrency sphere consists of a set of measures aimed at preventing the use of the particular project or institution for legalizing money obtained by criminal means or financing terrorism. The development and implementation of these measures and instruments are carried out by international and national institutions, the banking and business community.

The AML procedure requires the number of expenses which can take a bite the owners of cryptocurrency exchanges. Also, the KYC procedure can stop transactions for up to 50 days or even freeze of the financial accounts. The KYC procedure breaks the anonymity of cryptocurrency as the main principle of this sphere. Nevertheless regulation has undeniable advantages in the world of traditional finance. Creating some obstacle, it protects customers from fraudulent actions of banks and financial institutions and even provides them with mechanisms for compensation for damage.

Binance
, for example, allows withdrawing 2 BTC per 24h for a non-verified account and 100 BTC per 24h for users who passed KYC.
https://support.binance.com/hc/en-us/articles/115000864371-Verification-on-Binance

Bittrex has several levels of accounts. The withdrawal limit depends on the type of the user’s account. Bittrex emphasizes the necessity of compliance to “the Bank Secrecy Act, U.S. economic sanctions laws, and other legal and regulatory requirements”. The withdrawal limits for different accounts are:
- New/Unverified Accounts: 0 BTC withdrawal limit.
- ID Verified Accounts (without 2FA): withdrawal limit is 1 (or equivalent) BTC per day.
- ID Verified Accounts (with 2FA enabled): withdrawal limit is 100 (or equivalent) BTC per day with two-factor enabled.
https://bittrex.zendesk.com/hc/en-us/articles/231701788

Bitfinex requires verification for those who want to deposit or withdraw fiat money. Also, it is stated the KYC procedure enable “to speed up the deposit process”. Bitfinex doesn’t set any withdrawal limits.
https://support.bitfinex.com/hc/en-us/articles/115003355893-Account-Verification-Individuals

More and more jurisdictions around the world require licenses or regulate cryptocurrency exchanges. According to the report Blockchain and Cryptocurrency Regulation 2019 3-4% of Europe’s crime in 2017 were committed with the help of cryptocurrency and this percentage is tending to increase rapidly.
https://www.lenzstaehelin.com/uploads/tx_netvlsldb/GLI-BLCH1_Lenz_Staehelin.pdf
The most effective way to regulate the cryptocurrency exchange transactions is to regulate cryptocurrency exchanges. Every cryptocurrency exchange has its own rules on the registration process. The more exchanges require the stricter rules for account verification. As usual, the verified accounts have bonuses for trading operations, but there is a tendency that the user can’t even start trading if he doesn’t pass the verification. The effectiveness of the KYC/AML procedure depends on service providers mostly. The accounts are frozen for some period of time if there is any suspicious activities noticed.

European Union, The United States, South Korea have developed the KYC/AML rules for cryptocurrency sphere and made them an integral part of crypto regulation processes. After the beginning of the persecution of Bitcoin in China, many players moved their capital to South Korea. Until the beginning of February, they acted on the principle of self-regulation, but after the introduction of the new rules, they were controlled by financial authorities. From January 30, 2018, all Korean banks are required to exercise increased vigilance when working with cryptocurrency exchanges.

European Parliament passed rules concerning KYC/AML procedure. The innovations adopted in April 2018 entailed a series of changes in the work of cryptocurrency exchanges.
http://www.europarl.europa.eu/news/en/press-room/20180411IPR01527/anti-money-laundering-meps-vote-to-shed-light-on-the-true-owners-of-companies
As a result,  LocalBitcoins obliged to go through the mandatory registration of traders working with large capital, and opening a large number of positions. In May KuCoin platform also made changes. All users of the exchange are required to complete the authorization of KYC, indicating their passport details, gender, nationality, place of residence and so on.

The United States states that cryptocurrency trading or trading on stock exchanges falls under the definition of “money service businesses” and therefore is subject to the same measures to AML/KYC procedure as other financial institutions.
https://www.sec.gov/about/offices/ocie/amlsourcetool.htm
Bittrex, for example,  established strict rules for withdrawal with respect to unverified users. Unverified accounts have a 0 BTC withdrawal limit, thereby forcing serious traders to go through full registration.

In 2018 Mistertango provided a survey. They asked 25 cryptocurrency exchanges with a daily turnover of 100 million dollars about the necessity of the regulation of cryptocurrency exchange transactions. As the result, 88% of cryptocurrency exchanges want regulation in their operations.
https://www.newsbtc.com/2018/07/31/survey-finds-that-88-of-crypto-exchanges-are-crying-out-for-regulation/

To sum up, we think that more and more reliable cryptocurrency exchanges require the strict AML/KYC procedure for their customers. The reason is that it is the most efficient way to protect themselves against illegal actions as well as protect their users from unpredictable circumstances that can lead to accounts frozen and even to the close of the cryptocurrency exchange. This fact goes against anonymous and decentralization but corresponds to current conditions in the market.

[5].
Since there are so many garbage coins out there, I decide to create
this course to teach you how to create a new alt coin. It's so simple,
that I can usually do within 2 hours.

You need to have some basic knowledge of C++ programming. No need
to be an expert, but you need to understand the basic compiling errors
and how to fix them.

Follow the following steps to create a new alt coin:

Preparation Step:

Download the Litecoin full source code, you can find it in github, just
do a google, you'll find it.

If you use windows, follow the steps in this thread:
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=149479.0

set up environment and libs, and compile the Litecoin. If you are successful
in compiling it (and run it), then your environment is good.

Design your coin:

Now that you have env set up, before doing coding, you need to do some design of
your coin, this is simple math calculations, but you need them for parameters
in the coding.

Basically you need to determine what you want:
- name of the coin. Let's call it AbcCoin in our example. Also determine the symbol, we call it "ABC"
   in our example.
- block time: this is the average target time between blocks. Usually you set it between 15 sec and 2 mins.
   You can also do 10 mins if you want (like bitcoin), but it's too long imo.
- difficulty retarget time: this is important, since otherwise it could cause serious instamine problem.
   Usually it's between 1 hr to 1 day.
   (diff retarget time)/(block time) gives you how many blocks a diff retarget will happen. This is
   an important parameter to consider.
- what's the initial coin per block. People set it to 2 to 100, usually. You can set any you want.
   Also you can do coins per block based on the block number, or even randomly (like JKC/LKY etc).
- How long you want coins per block be halved. Usually it's 6 month to 3 years. But again you set whatever
   you like.
- Ports, you need two: connection and RPC ports. Choose the ones that are not used in common apps.
   You can google for a particular port usage.

There are some other things you may want to adjust, such as initial diffculty etc. But usually I don't want to bother with these.

Now with these parameters defined, one important thing is that you want to calculate how many blocks/coins
generated in a month, a year etc, and total coins ever will be generated. This gives you a good idea how overall
your coin will work, and you may want to re-adjust some parameters above.

Now the code change part.

Before you begin, copy the whole directory of Litecoin to Abccoin. Then modify the code in Abccoin.

Follow the below steps for code changes:

1. In Abccoin/src dir, do a search of "litecoin", and change most of them to "abccoin", note you may want
to do a case-sensitive replace. You don't have to replace all, but most should be replaced.
You can reference to smallchange code first commit
https://github.com/bfroemel/smallchange/commit/947a0fafd8d033f6f0960c4ff0748f76a3d58326
for the changes needed.

Note: smallchange 1st commit does not include many of the changes I will outline below, but it is a
good reference for what need to be changed.

2. In Abccoin/src dir, do a search on "LTC", and change them to "ABC".

3. Change the ports: use the ones you defined in coin design, and change in the following files:
- connection port: protocol.h and init.cpp
- rpc port: bitcoinrpc.cpp and init.cpp

4.  Change parameters, all in main.cpp:
   - block value (in GetBlockValue())
   - block time (right after GetBlockValue())
   - diff retarget time (right after GetBlockValue())
   - adjust the diff retarget scale to avoid instamine (in GetNextWorkRequired())

for the last item, refer to Luckycoin code, you will see how this is done.
For random coin values in block, refer to GetBlockValue() function in JKC and Luckycoin code.

5. According to your coin design, adjust the value in main.h:
   - max coin count
   - dPriority

6. Change transaction confirmation count (if you want say 3 confirmation transaction etc) in transactionrecord.h
also change COINBASE_MATURITY which affects the maturity time for mined blocks, in main.h/cpp.

7.  Create genesis block. Some people get stuck there, it's really easy:
- find LoadBlockIndex() function, inside, change:
    - paraphrase (pszTimestamp) to any recent news phase.
    - get the latest unix time (do a google), and put in block.nTime.
    - set any nNonce (doesn't really matter)
you can change the time/nonce for testnet too, if you want to use it.

After you are done, save it. Now the genesis block will not match the hash check and merkle root check, it doesn't matter.

The first time you run the compiled code (daemon or qt), it will say "assertion failed". Just exit the program, go to
config dir (under AppData/Roaming), open the debug.log, get the hash after "block.GetHash() = ", copy and paste it to the beginnig of main.cpp, hashGenesisBlock. Also get the merkle root in the same log file, paste it to the ... position in the following code, in LoadBlockIndex()
Quote
       assert(block.hashMerkleRoot == uint256("0x..."));

recompile the code, and genesis block created!

BTW, don't forget to change "txNew.vout[0].nValue = " to the coin per block you defined, it doesn't matter to leave as 50, just be consistent with your coin per block (do this before adjust the hash and m-root, otherwise they will be changed again).

Also you need to change the alert/checkpoint key, this depends on the coin type and version, you can find it in main.cpp, main.h, alert.cpp and checkpoint.cpp.

8. Set the correct address start letter in base58.h. You may want to do some trial and error to find the letter you want. I never can calculate precisely the letter location.

change corresponding "starts with " in sendcoinsentry.cpp
change example in signverifymessagedialog.cpp

9. Checkpoint: you want to disable the checkpoint check initially, otherwise you may get stuck.
You have multiple ways to disable it, my way is:
- open checkpoints.cpp
- there are 3 functions, comment out the normal return, and make them return either true, 0, or null, like this:
Quote
   bool CheckBlock(int nHeight, const uint256& hash)
    {
        if (fTestNet) return true; // Testnet has no checkpoints

        MapCheckpoints::const_iterator i = mapCheckpoints.find(nHeight);
        if (i == mapCheckpoints.end()) return true;
        // return hash == i->second;
      return true;
    }

    int GetTotalBlocksEstimate()
    {
        if (fTestNet) return 0;

        // return mapCheckpoints.rbegin()->first;
      return 0;
    }

    CBlockIndex* GetLastCheckpoint(const std::map<uint256, CBlockIndex*>& mapBlockIndex)
    {
        if (fTestNet) return NULL;

        BOOST_REVERSE_FOREACH(const MapCheckpoints::value_type& i, mapCheckpoints)
        {
            const uint256& hash = i.second;
            std::map<uint256, CBlockIndex*>::const_iterator t = mapBlockIndex.find(hash);
            if (t != mapBlockIndex.end())
                // return t->second;
            return NULL;
        }
        return NULL;
    }

Now this is disabled. Once everything works, you can premine 50 blocks, and extract some hashes and put them in the checkpoints, and re-enable these functions.

That's about it. You can do compilation all the way along, no need to do in the end, you may get a lot compilation errors.

Oh, icons:

10. Find a nice image for your coin, then make 256x256 icons/images. You have 5 images to replace in src/qt/res/icons, and 1 to replace (splash) in src/qt/res/images.

11. Oh also edit those files in qt/forms. These are files for help etc, better make them look nice, display your coin names than litecoin ones.

12. Now for compilations:
- qt: modify the .pro file under abccoin, and follow the make process in
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=149479.0

- daemon: update one of the makefile for your system, and in my case I use mingw32 shell to make.

That's it, voila, you have your own alt coins!!

Ask a Crypto Question

I've been active within crypto for over 5 years now, and since the recent Bitcoin spike, there's been a lot of questions from newer community members in this alt-discussion forum. I've experienced and been in many of the situations you have, along with many of the other veterans of the crypto-world, that linger here. It's ultimately my passion to share what i know, and assisting others with wisdom and insight into all things related to crypto.

I invite you and anyone to ask any question pertaining to cryptocurrency and blockchain.
The only types of questions i will not answer, are those specific to a crypto, questions like "What do you think about Ethereum?" "What coin are you investing in?" ... etc.

This thread is open for anyone to ask questions, and anyone should feel free to answer them. The thread will be modded in-case of spam (from Google) and inconsistent discussions not pertaining to the topic.

This thread should not be used for investment/trading decisions or be declared as financial advice. Always DYOR and always invest/trade carefully.

Hello. I believe that in the crypto world the strongest advantage is information, and the quality of information depends on our profits. So I decided to pick up some analogues to a popular resource for a more detailed study of the market. And as you know, the listing on Coinmarketcap costs money because of what there is a delay in the appearance of new coins.

1. WorldCoinIndex (https://www.worldcoinindex.com)
Practically a copy of cmc, with the same functionality, but new coins appear faster here.

2. Coingecko (https://www.coingecko.com/en)
This resource provides additional functions for analysis such as a mining calculator, activity in social networks, activities and trend analysis. It also gives a very detailed description of all the coins.

3. Coincheckup (https://coincheckup.com)
On this resource you can see the dynamics of price changes of all coins as well as the most grown or sagged within 24 hours. The general trend of the market. You can sort all coins by category. Several types of analysis, interesting tools and a review of Ico are also offered.

4. Cryptocompare (https://www.cryptocompare.com)
A lot of useful information from mining to purses. There is a forum. You can create and keep track of your portfolio. There are guides.

5. Coindance (https://coin.dance/stats)
An excellent project with a large number of infographics visually showing the market trends in recent years and for all time.

UPDATED

6. CoinCodex (https://coincodex.com)
ICO Calendar, and token sales, news, portfolio, different guides how to buy currencies and market overview.

I hope these sites will help you better analyze the market.
Thank you for attention!

[8].
Marketing, being fueled by advances in technology, is rapidly changing, especially in such technology-based spheres as blockchain and ICOs. We decided to take an informed guess in order to detect trends that will continue to grow in the future.

1) The visual

Great visual presentation seems to be something that will never be out of vogue, and this fact is relatively easy to explain. Every man and his dog knows that people respond to visual information much better than they do to plain text, so it comes as no surprise that content with visuals gets 94% more views. Therefore, creating a pleasant and transparent design is an essential step towards running a successful marketing campaign. Blog entries without pictures, tweets without infographics, white papers without charts and tables, ICO announcements on Bitcointalk without clear illustrations, all this simply won’t work. Visual content as well as visually-based media have long been and will remain the pivotal form of digital marketing. Or, to put that in the form of a famous meme:"Who are we? Users! What do we want? Visual aids!"

P. S.: To learn more about promoting your thread on Bitcointalk, read our article 5 Ways to Promote Your Bitcointalk Thread https://medium.com/assetrush/5-easy-ways-to-promote-your-bitcointalk-thread-9727b4505e9a.

2) The Interactive

Pictures are necessary, but not sufficient. Nowadays, rapidly advancing technology allows you to create new types of visual content that are way more appealing to users than ordinary pictures and even infographics. GIFs and videos, while hardly being new at this point, are still widely used. But what is already visible on the horizon, and rapidly approaching, are new media as live videos, ephemeral content, and augmented and virtual reality. Digital marketing managers have already started to implement them, and are only going to do so more and more for the foreseeable future: it is expected that the use of live videos and AR and VR will increase 15-fold and 20-fold, respectively, by 2021.

3) Artificial Intelligence

While it’s still in its preliminary stages, Artificial Intelligence has already been used in cryptocurrency marketing for a variety of purposes, from chatbots to ad targeting to predictive analytics. It is not crystal clear how exactly things will be developing in the future, but what we know full well is that no other marketing technology is expected to show such impressive year-over-year growth as AI.

4) Roadshows

It may seem that everything has gone completely digital, but no, not yet. Real-life encounters still play a crucial role when promoting your product, and for this reason, roadshows occupy their niche and remain a great way to present your ICO, attract investors, and interact face-to-face with other members of the crypto community. Also, they allow you to get some valuable and immediate feedback, which otherwise you may never obtain.

5) Community Management

Sound online community management is an important part of any marketing campaign. This is especially true for blockchain projects, and this trend is unlikely to halt in the future. As Jenny Goldberg said in her interview https://hackernoon.com/community-management-an-exclusive-interview-with-jenny-goldberg-f04e52b94b82, community is one of the three main components of any crypto project. Managing channels like Telegram, Bitcointalk, Reddit, and Medium and nurturing an active community there, is the key to the success of your project whether now or in the future.

FINAL THOUGHTS

What conclusions can be drawn? Well, it seems that whatever new cutting-edge technologies marketing, particularly in the sphere of ICOs, will be adopting, the ultimate goal will be the same: create engaging content that will allow you to quickly build personal rapport with users.

At AssetRush https://assetrush.com/ we stay at the cutting-edge of token marketing, so be sure to reach out to us to get some professional assistance.

New Additions: Account Farming, Bitcointalk Proof Of Authentication, KYC/AML and The Importance of KYC

Today Marked My 120 days as a bounty hunter and during this period I have gained more experience and knowledge in cryptocurrency as participating in bounty programs gave me additional exposure to the latest happenings around the crypto space. So I decided to drop few things i have learnt and also provide answers to some of the most frequent questions asked.

The Few Things I Have Learnt In The Last 120 Days
During the past 120 days, I have learnt the following from participating in different bounty programs :>
1. Patience: Participating in bounty program have taught me how to exercise patience. I have come to know that whenever they announce that they are going to distribute on a specified date just don’t expect it that day so you won’t be disappointed. Wait for them to carefully distribute your reward directly to your wallets.
2. Effective Time Management: This is one of the most important factor in bounty programs and I have seen many work got rejected because of late submission. Rule is rule and it must be obey irrespective of individual participating.
3. In-Dept Trading: Before joining I will say I have been able to trade in few cryptocurrency trading platform. Bounty have opened my eyes to numerous trading platform that I haven’t used before now.
4. Perseverance And Consistency: This keeps me going to strive for the best all the time. It is true that hunters are at the mercy of Bounty Manger Mangers and the Project team when it comes to distribution of rewards.

What Bounty Is?
Bounties are extraordinary program set aside to create awareness for the development of cryptocurrency projects and such programs usually end up rewarding participants that participated during the program. Another thing you should know is that there is always a specific time set aside for any bounty program, it can be 1 week, 2 weeks, 3 weeks and more many depending on the Project and the number of participants that sign up for it.  With this I have been able to classify Bounty into two, which are the specified and unspecified Bounty.
For Specified Bounty, there is always a specific time for such programs to end except otherwise stated. While the Unspecified Bounty end as soon as ICO ends. So it is important for bounty hunters to note the difference especially when choosing a bounty program to participate in.

Who Are Bounty Hunters?
These are some set of individuals that participates in bounty program. In addition, hunters are those set of persons who have little or no knowledge but have already made up their mind to agree to the terms and conditions of any bounty program they chose to participate in. Hence they are the Marketers that deploy their tools to create awareness for cryptocurrency projects.

Who Is A Bounty Manager?
Bounty Manager oversee the well-being of Bounty Program. They launches the program, set rules and effectively manage the bounty program. He or She as the case maybe are the ones hunters report to and are also responsible for awarding stakes. A Bounty manager can also be called; a Campaign Manager. Let me not forget to say that Bounty Manager are experience and it is difficult for hunters to trick them because they have seen it all and knows what it takes to embark in bounty. For Good Bounty Manager, check here: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=3085997.0 Also there are some platforms that launched good bounty programs and in this platforms you don’t need to submit your reports as it will be tracked automatically, such platforms are: BountyHive, Bounty0X, Bountyplatform to mention a few.

What Are Campaigns?
Campaigns are Subset of Bounty. In Bounty Programs, there are different types of campaigns these are Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and Telegram which can be classified as Social media campaign and lately some Bounty Manager have started Classifying Reddit and LinkedIn Social as Social Media campaigns. We also have Translation, Signature, Content Creation (Articles/Blog and Videos) and Reddit Campaign.

What Stakes Is?
These are deploy tools used by bounty managers in rewarding bounty hunters before carrying out extensive calculations based on token. The beauty about stakes is that it is directly proportional to the number of tokens you will receive. So the higher your stakes, the higher your tokens.

Understanding The Bitcointalk Proof Of Authentication
These are measures set aside by Bounty Managers to help reduce hunters deploying multiple accounts in participating in the Bounty Programs. BTT proof of authentication may require of hunters to submit their details in the Bounty Thread as proof that are own the account they are using. Some Bounty Managers like Btcltcdigger, Maxx and other Good Managers of recent deployed this techniques.

Account Farming
I think this have become the other of the day in most Bounty Programs. The Blockchain technology have been designed in such a way that we can easily track transactions that go in and out of our public wallet and with such, Some Bounty Managers have taken it upon themselves to track Bounty Hunters Wallet Address such as the Ethereum Wallet Address and if there is anyone found transacting within themselves, such will be disqualify and won't receive tokens. The Beauty about this is that even if a particular hunter transfer ETH or any other ERC-20 Token to a fellow hunter and they both participated in same Bounty or previous, Both will be tagged account farming and they will lose their stakes. Amazix have banned so many hunters from participating in their bounty campaigns with this.

What KYC/AML Is?
This has become an important aspect and process that Bounty Hunters Need to go through first in order to be eligible to receive tokens.
KYC =>>KNOW YOUR Customer, While; AML =>> Anti-Money Laundering. For More Information about KYC/AML, please Kindly refer to this thread: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=454795.0

The Importance Of KYC In Bounty Programs
Well, from what i have seen so far, i think KYC was introduce to reduce the number of participants using multiple accounts to participate i various Bounty Campaigns. Earlier Bounty Managers deployed the Bitcointalk proof of authentication. I think this is no longer as effective as it was before, so the KYC was introduce to help work with the former.

Few Things You Need To Check Before Jumping In Any Campaign
1. Carry out extensive research on the background of the projects, check for the authenticity of the team members and advisors.
2. If it is an ICO project, check if they have reached Softcap at least you might get your reward. So I believe you might have decided after checking out those all but important things.
3. Now on the Bounty itself, make sure you read and understand the General rules and regulations of the Bounty. Check the total allocation for the whole campaign to know how feasible it is.
4. Then decide the exact program you can embark on, Translation, Signature, Facebook, and Twitter, Articles/Blog/Video and others.
5. Follow the rules, report your activities according to the campaigns you participate in. You might be required to submit your activities via google form or through the Bitcointalk Bounty thread depending on the project. There are some Bounty that don’t allow participants to edit their already submitted activities while there are some that do not put that into consideration. These are part of the reason you need to read the rules as it will guide in getting your rewards at the end of the campaigns. I have heard and seen reports from different hunters on Telegram Bounty group complaining of not receiving rewards forgetting they refuse to follow the rules.

Do I Need To Pay Before Participating In Any Bounty Program?
No, you don’t pay but rather you are rewarded for participating. Note that rewards are only meant for those who follow the rules guiding the bounty program and also carry out the require task.

Which Campaign Is More Rewarding?
This is a difficult questions because of the number of hunters who get involved in Bounty Program this days. So what I do is after checking the total allocation, briefly I observe the spreadsheet to see where there are few participants. Trust me, Telegram, Twitter and Facebook always have highest number of participants and to earn big over there you will need to be that one participants with the highest number of Facebook friends and Twitter Followers. Also try as much as possible to start your activities from the beginning of the campaign that will give you an extra edge over others.
I think I will have to go with Translation----->>>Signature----->>>Articles/Blogs/Videos----->>>Reddit----->>>Facebook, Twitter----->>>Telegram campaigns. This order shows the highest to the least rewarding campaigns.

Why Have There Been Delays In Paying For Bounty Program Of Recent?
From what I have observed so far, I think most project are trying to protect their token from depreciating in value in this bearish market as almost all altcoins have experience this of recent. Also I will like all bounty participants to understand that as far as you participate in a genuine and sincere project, I think your reward will come but it is just a matter of time they will surely distribute this reward to those participants who carry out the right task and meet the rules of the bounty program.

In conclusion, I have learnt, enjoy and benefited from my last 120 days as a bounty hunter and I anticipates for more progress as my Journey continues.

[10].
Cheesy Hi friends, I realize most of the bounty hunter want to know about the steps for choosing the best project to start bounty hunting. thus i have created some of the finest methods i personally consider while choosing the bounty projects. I feel this will be benifitial for the bounty community, thus,  i am going to share these with you guys. if you have any further points to highlight additionally you may please comment down below. Roll Eyes

Most Initial thing i check for choosing a bounty programme:
1. The quality of project: Most people get attract from the design of website or thread and they decide to join that bounty campaign. Sometimes they join specific bounty campaign because of high rewards but at the end of campaigns they may get scammed or they not get the whole amount of money or bounty campaigns failed ICO and many other reasons.
Ofcourse this is not a thing to share but i have seen many hunters participating in a project which i confirmly know that the project is surely a dead project. hence, before looking anything else you can overview the concept and quality of the project.

2. Number of participants in the bounty program:  this is a another sure for trick to reduce the wastage of time for choosing the right bounty project. just check the date of bounty published and look for the total participants in the project. if, overall amount is justifiable then you can go for the hunting.

3. ICO Bounty budget (% of ICO tokens for the whole bounty program): sometime the percentage of bounty allocation is so poor that you recieve a penny for your months of hardwork. bounty hunter is not a difficult job but you have to invest a good amount of time to fulfill the steps asked by manager. simply the projects runs for few weeks to months hence, this time cost is your expense to get the return of bounty rewards.

4. Money raised in the ICO Pre-Sale or Main Sale up to now: this is not a very important factor however it can be a usefull thing to confirm a good project.

5. Token distribution date: see distribution of project. sometime bounty budget is so good that people enter into job without verifying the overall project. token distribution is another thing you should check to know the future aspect of the project.

Most important: TRUSTED BOUNTY MANAGER:- now-a-days, bounty managers are biggest player to  fulfill the community management role. in the tough compition choosing the trusted bounty manager is a good option to fast bounty hunting.
Choosing ICO bounty program is not exact science. It requires due diligence and judgement calls most of the time. Investing some time for researching and comparing different programs based on the outlined factors will give you the upper hand and help you stay ahead in the ICO bounty hunting game.

In conclusion, the alternative board is still part of Bitcointalk and quality posters on the board deserve a chance to receive merits. I hope my message is passed across and my application is considered.

Thank you.
Regards...
Brainboss

I don't think it's the right thing to judge people through their own perception that is against to yours. I have seen his Merit History and the fact that he gives it to contributive posts, I think there isn't wrong about this. If you're truly against his application because of that, I think it's only necessary to consider his works.

I disagree--I think it would be fine in this context to judge people based on their skewed perception, since being a merit source does require decent judgement.  However, based on that thread I don't think brainboss exhibited judgement that was severely lacking.  What he posted was basically a summary of community standards that already exist but which were unwritten.  In other words, he didn't make all that stuff up himself.  He wrote down what are essentially unwritten rules for leaving feedback.

And all of that aside, you don't have to be Mother Teresa in order to be a merit source.  If a source ends up abusing their position, that abuse will get picked up on fairly quickly and the member won't be a merit source for long.  So I think if someone has a reasonably good reputation and shows reasonably good judgement, they ought to be considered.  OP has been around here long enough and his reputation certainly is good enough.  I'd support his application.  The real question is whether Theymos is thinking of adding any more merit sources.  Haven't heard anything about that lately, nor have I seen a lot of applications.

Merit Source is a very different aspect though cryptohunter mixed DT,Merit source and merits all in one.

Can I support this application? I guess yes.

I don't think theymos will consider to add more merit sources soon, maybe till the end of 2019, or even never consider about this.
Some potential reasons that led to theymos' hesitation are:
- Some abusements from limited merit sources.
- The admin don't want to generate more merits and sMerits to all merit sources  (both current sources and new ones). Because, more monthly generated merits and sMerits will in turn lead to higher sMerits circulations in the forum. That, in turn, gives forum users more chances to be promoted, much faster, and in other side might create more potential incorrect usages of allocated sMerits.
- Limited merit sources, and limited monthly generated merits and sMerits will force the general quality of posts/ topics, users higher than adding more of them. Because users have to fight hard each other with their posts, their contributions to get sMerits from merit sources.

In general, I think theymos has lack of interests in adding more merit sources.
The admin might only consider about this if more than 10% of current merit sources kicked out (due to abusements, for instance).

To be honest that is exactly my point. It is more of a list of things he was able to scramble up, but hasn't gone through any "filtering" if you will.

And there have been some people trying to adapt, or give feedback on the list, with no action/answer taken or given.

I stand by my point.

I could make a list of great ICOs and only list scams, not being the author of said ICOs wouldn't make my judgment any less deficient.

I would hate to see you become a source.
No need to be so rude here, hate is a very hard word.  Wink

Some of the points Brainboss mentioned there are maybe a little bit uncommon and it's usual on DT that different people have a different point of view. There are also points I disagree with like OPs view of not giving negative tags to plagiarizers. I would have no problem to tag them and warn people from sending sMerit to them. If an account is banned for plagiarism we can't see it right now directly and it would be a pity to waste the scarce sMerits for banned plagiarizers.

(Slightly) different opinions are an important factor of DT and I think theymos has nothing against it. The community is always evaluating how to judge things and adjust them if abuse is detected. OP hasn't done a favor to himself by posting his guidelines for DT but I don't see a reason to affect his Merit Source application in a negative way. I would like to support him, too.  Smiley

Well, that's very far-fetched.  Cheesy

We have some confused individuals on the forum, they don't understand the difference between Merit source, DT member and Moderator. Maybe if I was applying to be a DT member (if that was even possible 😁) then I'll consider his feedbacks useful or maybe it's just hate (like I usually received numerous PM of haters accusing me of ass liking just because I get merits from forum members they have issues with. maybe I would had put more thought into his claims if it was based on my post meriting history.

I'm glad from the feedbacks I have received so far, this post was also created to rate myself on forum and all feedbacks are welcome to achieve the perfect result. People hate on you when they see progress, I like that makes me feel important lol Wink

Even though theymos isn't ready to appoint new sources or I'm not qualified enough based on his standard, I'm glad with what I'm seeing although don't understand LoyceV meriting all post on thread lol (is that some kind of a support?)

Maybe LoyceV partially agreed with those posts.
It's hard to find posts that readers can completely agree with, so I guess that is the case of LoyceV when sending merits to those posts.
It is some kind of rewards for posts that LoyceV agreed to disagree.

Another reason is likely that LoyceV decided to give their sMerits away, rather than hoarding them for too long.
Finally, one of the forum merit whales has decided to increase the speed of his/ her merit give aways.

Maybe LoyceV partially agreed with those posts.

You don't merit posts simply because you agree to them and I'm sure he didn't merit those post because of that, beside he merited two different opinions on the same issue so I'm positive that isn't the reason.

Finally, one of the forum merit whales has decided to increase the speed of his/ her merit give aways.

You don't know LoyceV too well if you think so, when it comes to awarding merit he's the 4th Most generous recent merit senders and 9th All time meriter. My possible conclusion will be he just offloaded the smerits so he'll be eligible to receive new allocation.

That is why I said he or she probably agreed to disagree.
Sometimes, you can find a post which wrote so long, and you only pick a small part, small point that you agree or satisfy with.
And that point is what you need for you answer, or what you experienced yourself in the past, there is no reason to hesitate to merit that post.
This is why a helpful post is only helpful for someone who need it, everyone has different point of view, different demands, so one post might be helfpul for one guy, but might be not helpful for others.
he merited two different opinions so that can't be the case.

You don't know LoyceV too well if you think so, my possible conclusion could be he just offloaded the smerits so he'll be eligible to receive new allocation.
oh, my friend, it is just an assumption, who knows what LoyceV really thought?
I known well that LoyceV rarely send more than 1 merit per post what he/she think deserve a merit.

I would hate to see you become a source.

This topic shows your poor judgement: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5100675 - you are just throwing rules in the air, that are at best not true. Bumping them all the time won't make them any more legit.
Thats certainly a rude statement from you. I have seen you giving out harsh comments on people not being right on certain instances, but it has nothing to do with being appointed as a source actually. I don't find any such merit abusing traces from brainboss and he seems to be contributing to the community in a positive way. Along with this, people also commonly have misconception with the moderator appointment too. The moderator doesn't need to be popular enough but should be active and report posts along with gaining some minor reputation from fellow members.

But on the other hand, i also guess that there are enough merit sources managing the main boards and I think ATM we don't need any additional sources. Also if all the sources finish off their source merits and the merit receivers giving out all their smerits by spreading them in the Non-spammy boards, I guess the current generation of smerits is more than enough for a decent poster to rank up without any hurdles.

For the topic which you have pointed out, brainboss has mentioned he will be correcting the topic if it's proven to be wrong. He has never said that right, nor he stands for that. We shouldn't expect everyone to be right from the beginning.

It doesn't matter if I agree or not, CryptopreneurBrainboss' post is clearly not spam, and he put a lot of work in it. Asche shows a totally different angle, and cabalism13 disagrees with asche. The Pharmacist gives a different insight again, and hacker1001101001 provides a reason to support CryptopreneurBrainboss's merit source application. There were a few more posts, but you get the idea Smiley

Quote

Wrong. If anything, it's a reward for not spamming the forum. I'm not trying to convince the internet on who to agree with, it's up to the reader to decide that on his own. I don't do it often, but I especially like meriting opposing views.
Don't mistake Merit for "likes" or endorsements.

Quote
Another reason is likely that LoyceV decided to give their sMerits away, rather than hoarding them for too long.
It is a lot of work to unload a continuous flow of Merit, without wanting to give a lot per post.

My possible conclusion will be he just offloaded the smerits so he'll be eligible to receive new allocation.
Correct. Although I still try to only Merit posts that are worth reading. I keep my source amount low (I just sent the last one to Heisenberg_Hunter), but I have 471 of "my own" sMerits left. That number keeps slowly going up.

What does what you mentioned has to do with him applying for merit source?

I disagree with most DT members and how they go about using the trust system, i have a total different opinion on how the trust system should be used, does this mean i do not deserve to be a merit source?

If you have something against how he distribute merit then that would be a valid concern and opninion , aside from that you are completely off-topic here.

The OP is certainly not applying for to be a dt rather applying for a merit source so I don't see how that can discredit his application.

And also the altcoin discussion section has for a long time been disregarded I think more merit sources allocated to that section would drive more active and productive member there.
Also the OP has steadily rise and if you check he has been effective and not greedy when it comes to giving his earned merit. I think he would make a good merit source

Having considered my chances of getting accepted by theymos as a merit source for the alternative subsection based on my contribution to the board, I have decided to withdraw my application although I'm not withdrawing my support for the board as I'll always merit deserving post when I get the opportunity to see one on the board. I'm shifting my support to tk808 (he's more qualified to handle the responsibility based on his years of experience). Hopefully he gets appointed soon. Thanks you guys for the positive feedback. I feel appreciated.
Shifting support will not help because
1. New Merit sources rarely get a big bag.
2. Altcoin sections is too big for a person.
3. Might be Theymos is looking for choices. Smiley

I don't think you should withdraw your application until someone like theymos officially disapproves it.

Also you don't need to to shift the support you could still support tk808 by personally being an applicant. It's not like a competitive type of application.

As r1s2g3 said, Theymos could be considering for more options or you and tk808 both could get a chance. Huh
