The two hashes in question are:
9b6ad4fc35fff4044212f2df098b4ef2
b5fd6c7b3a613b289daeeda6d9d0c158

The second one I guessed was 'r' but I wasn't able to find it in any hash tables.

Well, this is depressing. Still 0 BCN after solo mining for 2 days. I refuse to use that minergate thing until the source code is released. Sad

What CPU and OS are you using for mining?

Windows, i7-2600K stock (about 5.7 hashes per second).

Nope. "centosorgwywlfpppeyourbcnaddress" was exactly the answer I got yesterday. I even found a user on centos.org named wywfl that I private messaged my bcn address to. So far no "prize". Haha

1 block per 35 hours.
2 days without finding block is normal. Just go on mining.

You can give linux a try. Simply setup virtual machine with ubuntu (VirtualBox) on your windows and follow the instructions from the how-to thread. Smiley

Thanks. I didn't know how to calculate the mining rewards.

Because it could turn my computer into a paperweight or perhaps infect it with something to steal wallets. They refuse to release the source code so it's just an executable posted on a forum that one has to trust. I've been on the internet too long to do that. Tongue

I don't think OS should make a difference unless the linux daemon yields more hashes/s. Did anyone test that?

It could. Linux is faster then windows in general so. I think you should give it a try.

It's a little paranoid don't you think? Antiviruses are meant for something imo ^^

On the other hand, what can be the reason behind not releasing src code.

That's exactly it. Not releasing source code is fishy. I don't have anything particularly important on my mining PC so I could always wipe it if it becomes infected. But for the sake of maintaining discipline, I won't use stuff like this. Poor practices eventually lead to messing up and screwing yourself some time in the future.

I think they are just anticipating a wave of clones. Being the first implementation of cryptonote, they have the right to keep their app proprietary. Maybe if someone creates a better, open source miner they will release it because it would no longer be 'the first-and-best' and just 'the first'. Then people would have a choice between which miner app they want to rip off for their own Bytecoin clone.

So I have been doing some random digging with what peices of the code we currently know.

centosorg

wywlf?

ppe // Pseudo Random Permutation Ensemble ?? Crypto related terminalogy
ppe// Power Processor Element

Or more puzzles that lead to items related to a book?
https://www.google.com/#q=centos.org+wywlf+ppe

This is all that I could really dig up.

If you look carefully at the decode above it is pppe not ppe. That is assuming that gwywlf is the correct parse and not something longer.

If that is the case then PPPE  // Point-to-Point Protocal over Ethernet

That's normally PPPoE

Compare "+pppe router" to "+pppoe router" in google. The former has exactly one hit, probably a typo.

I have a 50+ i5 cpus that could work on this. Do I need to install wallet on each of the machines? Or there is a miner to point out to single server wallet/comp ?

Wallet on one machine that can sync with the network. You will need the bytecoind node updated and running on all machines so that you can detect and mine blocks. You then just start mining to one wallet address. Your other option which would be easier since you have so much is the Pool. Minergate.com  Windows binary and Ubuntu 10.4 Deb

Pool is ok with me, but I will then loose all these interesting mysteries solving with blocks? Secret messages etc... ?
