Giveaway still goes on! I have free coins for you! Just fill the form Done I am excited by this coin. ASIC-hostile, GPU-hostile, Pool-hostile. Meant for fair distribution from the start. Fairness of distribution is so important. I'd like to know how it would compare to NXT feature-wise.

If none of these messages are signed with proper pgp key of cicada then DONT believe they are who they say they are.
So please guys, only believe this if they show us a signed message!!
Yeah really anyone reading this thread could have picked up on the cicada talk so who knows who actually sent that message. Meant for fair distribution from the start. Fairness of distribution is so important.
Most of the evidence earlier in the thread suggests a large amount (around 80%) has already been mined over the past two years by who knows so I wouldn't necessarily say fairness is a selling point (edit: see below). Assuming what is stated in the whitepaper is in fact implemented, however, bytecoin has several significant improvements, most notably comparative anonymity. edit: By the way DStrange, thanks for the giveaway, which arrived in my wallet this afternoon.

The idea of BCN being 80% pre-mined is a bit hasty. Just because the developers didn't want to stir up attention and make an announcement on the largest cryptocurrency forum on the net doesn't mean it's pre-mined. It just means you were late.
That said, I am interested in knowing the rationale behind BCN's unusually fast minting process.

Reading over my post I realize that I gave that impression. I actually agree with you completely. Just because they didn't choose to launch their coin on bitcointalk or reddit doesn't mean that it was inherently somehow "unfair". All I meant was to correct that poster above who seemed to think the coin had just launched.

I think its pretty clear the coin was not truly pre-mined. If you look at the difficulties in the block chain, finding all those proofs-of-work was not trivial. Some group of people (or at least computers) of fairly significant size were mining it for some period of time, though it doesn't necessarily have to be the period of time advertised.
You can criticize the fast mining schedule and that may be enough to doom the coin (if there isn't enough mining reward it won't be secure), but pre-mining in the usual sense is pretty much not true.

But how can u send me coins mr Satoshi? Is it magic? Your bytocoin folder has a "bytecoin address.txt" file once you generated the wallet. This txt file contains your bytecoin address. Can i still mine this coin with CPU? If you read the whitepaper or [the cryptonote website, you will find that url=https://cryptonote.org/inside.php#equal-proof-of-work]the cryptonote website[/url], you will find that it is actually meant to be mainly mineable by CPU Now, Heavycoin tried the same thing and failed, but maybe this one will work better. Regarding the mining of Bytecoin: I read there was supposed to be 180 billions coins and that only around 80 millions have already been mined. This would mean that only 0.05% had already been mined, quite the opposite of an unfair launch. Or am I wrong on the numbers?

3 different calcs from 3 different people (me being one of them) put it from 120billion to 140 billion in existence, not 80 million. Where did you read 80 million? I misread, sorry. Too bad it had already been mostly mined...

A few days back someone mentioned ByteCoin on the forum and I started looking up. Unfortunately I fell for the other ByteCoin (BTE) and almost placed a buy order on Cryptsy. Luckily I found this thread yesterday and realized there are more than one ByteCoin, so I quickly cancelled my order which saved me my BTC.

The only thing that bothers me with cryptonote is that it is still a PoW coin, thus an energy-hungry coin. Although, pure PoS like NXT, MINT, BC... but also FAC (100% premine although it is not PoS) seem to allow faster transactions - at least this is the case for the first three.
