I think the payment is processing through a third party service. Even if Amazon accepts Bitcoin payments, I won't be buying anything using it. Because, Bitcoin is volatile and I would be too hesitant to sell my bitcoin for goods. If any services accepts gold as a payment, I won't think people would do it. Same happens with Bitcoin.

The title you posted is misleading since Amazon does not accept bitcoin as a payment method and all the process of buying is done through a third party which means your funds are no longer secured. I wouldn't install an extension on my browser that has access to my  wallet since it could easily be hacked and I would lose all my funds.

This title is misleading, you can spend bitcoin anywhere you want if a 3rd party service is involved so you an't really say these places are accepting crypto for payments.  Your correct about the volatility, that is one of the main reasons sellers are afraid to accept bitcoin directly.

besides Amazon should be a thing of past for us, in our world we should stick to decentralized market places such as Open Bazaar and make them grow and replace Amazon.
What the heck is Open Bazaar? Never heard of it. Why in the world do you think this site can actually replace the king of E-commerce anytime in the future?

Back in the year 2000, it seemed unlikely that Amazon would sell anything other than books.

Everything starts with a small step. If crypto users started using Open Bazaar, then it would grow. Whereas waiting for Amazon to accept crypto might take forever.

even without reading the links i can tell you that a big company like Amazon who has been asked to add bitcoin payment options to their platforms and have been refusing it so far is not going to change their mind without a fuss overnight and they will definitely not start with Lightning Network.
reading the links it is obvious that this was a clever way of advertising that service that has nothing to do with Amazon.

There is a FOMO brewing...

By itself, the news is very positive, but the situation is that it would be as if not a direct purchase on Amazon, but a purchase with the help of an intermediary. In addition, as you yourself wrote this method of payment may not be safe for users. Personally, I will not use this service yet. Until Amazon enters on the site the ability to pay directly, I personally will not risk it. Moreover, I still do not see much point in paying for goods on Amazon using Bitcoin. In the current situation, on the contrary, I try to accumulate it.

To be clear, Amazon itself never touches bitcoin. Kruger declined to specify which traditional financial institutions are helping convert the bitcoin to fiat on the backend so that Amazon merchants actually receive fiat currency for their wares. However, Kruger added that by 2020 the lightning-enabled feature should work on almost any e-commerce site, regardless of whether that platform accepts bitcoin directly.

So I guess this is far worse than a simple 3rd party payment solution like bitpay or coingate..

First, you have to install a browser extension....seriously?
Then you pay coins for the invoice and an undisclosed partner ill take care of the conversion...
At this point, it is possible Amazon has no clue what the guys from Moon are doing and they might shut it down at any time.

If they would have done it through a normal 3rd party like the ones I've mentioned I would have said it's a step forward but this thing is shady, and not just that

That is great even a big company like Amazon are now adding bitcoin as a payment. This is one of so many proof that bitcoin will starting to dominate all over the world. And because of that netizens and government will open their mind in using and investing in bitcoin. And I think bitcoin can be a good instrument a easier daily transaction when other big companies like Amazon are going to invest at bitcoin.

When I first saw this thread I thought that Amazon was really adopted Bitcoin and it was the reason for the increasing price of Bitcoin nowadays but after reading the posts of different people then I realized that this is an another hoax,  I'm now curious again on why is the price of BTC is on an uptrend.

BIG WINNER!

We still cannot shop with bitcoin on Amazon cause that are not included in their payment processor. The article was mean to have a third party site to handle the payment and convert it into fiat. There was no sentence where it say amazon accepted bitcoin for their payment. Read it back and the title was so misleading people.

the title of the article is very misleading because you still can not "shop on Amazon with bitcoin" since they do not accept bitcoin and what you are doing is that you are going through a third party which is never desirable specially when we are talking about decentralized bitcoin which was supposed to cut all the middle men.

From the look of how this third party operates, I will agree with you on this. Giving a third party an opportunity to connect to your browser and wallet is not a great idea. You are just making your wallet vulnerable to be hacked.

I realized that decentralized online market platforms do not really promote their platforms and that is the reason for the low patronage.

You Can Now Shop With Bitcoin on Amazon Using Lightning

Quote
Bitcoin spenders can now use the lightning network to shop at e-commerce sites like Amazon.

Crypto payment processing startup Moon announced today that any lightning-enabled wallet can now also be used through Moon’s browser extension. Before this lightning feature, roughly 250 beta users already used Moon to spend crypto on e-commerce sites by connecting the browser extension to exchange accounts like Coinbase.

“There’s no direct merchant integration,” Kruger said, clarifying that Moon also manages payment channels and merely offers a simple interface for sending payments.

https://www.coindesk.com/you-can-now-shop-with-bitcoin-on-amazon-using-lightning

What are you thoughts about this one? Remember you have to download your browser's extension and then connects your wallet. And this what worry me most. As this could be another potential loopholes that hackers can exploit. And I assume that the fee's here will be high as well.

I also heard negative press about the people behind this company. So this is not an endorsement of any kind. Just wanted to brought this to the community. Always used your common sense.  Grin

Edit: https://www.reddit.com/r/ethereum/comments/auqrhf/psa_on_moon_browser_extension/

The story is summed up in the third party
Amazon did not accept BTC
Amazon must be pressured by its dealers (who wish to accept BTC as a payment method)
Or encourage other sites that have already accepted BTC and deal with it more.

Amazon will continue ignoring Bitcoin until it can actually handle at least a quarter of the volumes it's pushing on a daily basis. Bitcoin as it is right now can't even come close to 0.1% of their volumes. People need to stop being overly bullish and expect miracles to happen.

Imagine all the complaints Amazon has to deal with by accepting Bitcoin. Most of the current non crypto related merchants experience more problems accepting Bitcoin than it results in a boost in revenue and profits. It wouldn't even surprise me if they end up getting ddos attacked just because they accept Bitcoin. What a hassle.

I do not know whether this is a proposal to switch to a new browser, but integration of cryptocurrency into large services will occur, I am sure of that. how quickly this happens depends on whether to join large services in a revolution. I can accept the fact that few people still understand the advantage of cryptocurrency. But for this, there are platforms like taklimakan this to teach more people how to use cryptocurrency as a means of trading and payments.

Yes, I agree. If you already get bonuses from tokens, it's cool when you can immediately spend them. I am not a very good trader, but I love it when coin can be used for shopping.

there are still many scammers. But I hope that if Amazon joined the community and the Paypal also held payments through the crypt, then the day when everyone recognizes the importance of the blockchain is not far off. By the way, thanks for the site

I hope this will help reduce transaction costs. Debit cards are sometimes very voracious and take a lot of money for transfers.

This is a nice development that will help cut the cost of transaction fee, make shopping on E-Commerce site simple as it will allow us to spend our coins well thereby increasing demand and popularity of cryptocurrencies however this has not been officially announced by Amazon for the authenticity of this information.
