Some people saw how BTC grew from almost nothing to $5.5k and they want to believe that with a help of this breakthrough technology he will become rich with their $1 of their pocket money investments. But it is pretty obvious that BTC won't make a fast x100+ so they are searching for something, that would become a new super global currency that is still able to bring them huge profits.

True. Unfortunately in this case, the biggest lesson for people would be to actually get burned by their investments. The cryptocurrency markets are a hugely unregulated market, hence we really expect a lot of people who have zero idea on investing and research to be putting significant amounts of money in. I think it's a good thing though, as I'm pretty sure a huge number of people actually learned about money, investing, and information security by learning about the crypto markets.

Those newbies are really very hype on ICO and shitcoins and buying useless crypto and then we will hear them bitching around the community saying they got rekt and the promise to became rich didn't arrived. But it's never late to stop. And is it really that hard to find coinmarketcap.com and figure out the best investment opportunities before investing money? It's weird, but it really seems to me that some people who took part in ICOs and stuff might not even know that there are well-known and reputable cryptocurrencies out there that don't involve that much risk. Others probably invested out of greed, thinking that the time to invest in the giants is missed, so one has to go for hidden gems.
I think that now the situation is as simple as it can get. Top cryptocurrencies have already shown what they are capable of. The market is still very much down, even though it is showing some exciting upward movement sometimes. If one wants to invest in cryptos now, it's a great idea to invest in Bitcoin and maybe a couple of others from the top-10. There always is and will be a risk, but I agree with the op that now is a good time to join.

It's so true, and not only about cryptocurrencies, but other crypto assets like tokens amd such. People think that they have missed the train with Bitcoin and that they have to invest in something fresh, but actually they are hurting themselves by taking unnecessary risk and ending up with low expected value trades. This is the problem for most newcomers here in crypto world. They are just easy to hypnotize by these stupid advertisements telling that if you invest in here, you will get a huge amount of money in a month or the like.

In my portfolio, around 60-70% of my total holdings is Bitcoin. I bought some coins that I know will bloom in the long run but that is a small percentage only compare to Bitcoin. Its ok to buy altcoin but do some in deep research to prevent being scammed.

I Don't really agree with the "Most" part. Although I believe there are "Some/Few" people who got into the sinking ship, most of the people just thought it would be beneficial to invest in the shitload of tokens.
All those shitcoins in Yobit which get pumped daily shows us that there are huge number of people who still take part in the pump and dump and eventually lose their coins.
It's just the greed that drives them to their catastrophic fate. This is the sole reason why bitcoin should be the major part of your investments. I would consider investing 70% of my investment into bitcoin while the rest 30%  into top major altcoins.

There are simply way too many altcoins. No matter what technical merits they have, people are not going to trust yet another newcomer right away. They have to be extraordinary even to not succumb with the rest, let alone get close to Bitcoin. You could say there is an inertia, that Bitcoin is a gigantic flywheel that has been receiving power for 10 years, while the others are yet to start spinning, or are simply too small to matter.

I fully agree that when it comes to cryptocurrency investing, nothing can be safer and more lucrative than doing it with Bitcoin. In fact, institutional fund managers are betting more with Bitcoin compared to other popular alts so the future is really here. As to alts, there are also good picks on there and there is nothing wrong to also diversify one's portfolio. Right now, there is a big cup of coffee being brewed for Bitcoin and soon we can be drinking into that cup of profits and happiness.

Why this is true? Each and every one of us is here for different reasons. Some of us are not for making direct profit and we support projects due to their technology and not they price. There is potential for many altcoins to grow in the future if the mass adoption is going t be brought in the front place and I am dedicated in making this happen.

This is actually called a diversed crypto portfolio. If we are talking real portfolio ratios, 25% should be in fiat, 25% in Bitcoin 25% in altcoins and 25% in land or some medium risk legacy investments. Altcoins have the highest gains and risks.

It's true, altcoins are the best example of projects that are chasing bitcoin, due to the gainings it can offer. It's not something dire, don't get me wrong, I think it's even better for our economy to see such many altcoins out here, even though many of them are falling right now. The reason people go after such statements is the pump that made bitcoin's price what it is and so called "brand name" associated with bitcoin. These days all alts coin companies spend heavily on brand marketing, they use words that influence the buyer to buy their coins. As a buyer one should only invest in bitcoins as no other coin can ever match the returns given by bitcoins. One of the reasons I feel people end up investing in alts is due to lack of research done on their part, they simply fall for clickbait marketing and end up with worthless coins.

New coins always appear, but being the second bitcoin in my opinion will never exist, because to reach the price of thousands of US dollars for 1 coin is something that is very difficult. Most new coins cost tens or hundreds of US dollars.

Yes, for investment portfolio must be well and good. If you invest limited you can hope to back limited. So you should trade with vast number of portfolio and also have to be technical in trading. Ethereum is more advanced than Bitcoin, as far as the technology is considered. But then, it is not the original cryptocurrency that was invented by Satoshi Nakamoto.

Therefore, most people prefer to work with Bitcoins, although they do not refuse from holding alts. As I have noticed, successful traders and good investors have 70-60% of BTC, and the rest is reliable altcoins.

It is easy to collect altcoins, from airdrops and bounty campaigns. On my part, I have never purchased alts for Bitcoin. My entire altcoin holding came from bounty campaigns and airdrops (converted a large portion of that to BTC/ETH as well). The same can be said about forked coins such as Bitcoin Cash and Bitcoin Gold. I never purchased them. I received them after the fork.

Indeed, we need to up the technology of bitcoin first before we find something to replace it otherwise it would repeat the things where bitcoin failed at. Besides, there are many coins that are at par with bitcoin right now, only difference is their application--like eth and xrp. To be creating a new "bitcoin" is very counter-productive.

Well, the only thing that bitcoin is not good at for me is their fee's when it comes in value I have nothing to say about it but when you combined the value and the fee's it can destroy your belief. Once bitcoin increase the fee also increases. I think we should just work on the problem of bitcoin and stop chasing what is better than bitcoin. If fee's problem solved for sure it will leave a big impact on the bitcoin industry that can lead to its successful again.

The OP is absolutely correct. There was a time when we regarded Ethereum as Bitcoin 2.0. But a few years later, we understand that it is not the technology, but the brand name which matters. Im a fan so I will stick with btc and eth. Seems some have no loyalty and that's exactly what we talking about when we say people are chasing the next bitcoin. What they really mean is the next thing that they can make a profit for. This means the absolutely miss the point of crypto entirely.

Everyone knows already about this and I don't know why people would care to see another coin that will replace Bitcoin.
How this satisfaction plays right now, I don't think that they have such word in their mind. Chasing for another bitcoin will just end into nothing cause we can't even find another one.

Most of the altcoins claiming to be the next bitcoin are fraud. They will give good graphs/comparison table how they beat bitcoin. But guess what? Most of them ended up in those tables and not gaining any popularity from the market. They can promote their project as long as they want but gaining trust is another thing.

Indeed, there will be restrictions with bitcoin, but frankly I still really hope that bitcoin will continue to be loved and hunted, until now there is no big breakthrough from altcoin and still not and it is still very difficult for altcoin to replace bitcoin. starts when will there be a strong altcoin that can replace bitcoin? ethereum, until now, still depends on the growth of bitcoin.

That's why knowledge is power and without knowledge on what you are doing you will easily get rekt and that what happens to those newbies who entered this industry with pure greed in their hearts and taken the bait of multiple folds of profit promises by some useless projects. I guess there is nothing to blame but themselves because they didn't do proper research and never acquire knowledge about what they are doing in this very wild industry of Crypto Currency.
