This weekend should have much more interesting UFC event, with Makhachev figthing in main event. I cant see Makhachev losing this fight against Ian Machado Garry, but odds on him are very low and not worth taking. Maybe it is worth to take fight going to distance, but I am not certain in that outcome.

Machado Garry is master of making fight boring because he runs a lot in octagon and counter attack. Garry has good striking, reach advantage and he is taller. That might mean to Islam will have to spend more stamina to catch running Garry if he wants to avoid his strikes from distance and take him down. Btw, Garry has black belt in judo. To get black belt there, you have to go through all path and do years of training. It is not like black belt in bjj, where you get black belt when your coach think you are ready for it (like Pereira, who has started only training it as part of gameplan when started mma, and got his belt after win in a mma fight not even against a bjj guy). Dont forget that Rakhmonov used to be scary striker and good wrestler, but did little (however won) against Garry. Anyway, on the paper it does not look like an easy fight

I want to know who the fight of the week will be for the main event of UFC 330. Islam or Garry? I'm not even going to pay much attention to the other fights, I just want Garry to come in and win to end this party atmosphere and these boring fights with endless grappling.
Recently, we’ve seen some of the biggest favorites lose: Merab, Khamzat, Ilia, Pantoja, and others... Many favorites have lost their belts. Today, Islam is once again the heavy favorite and has been undefeated for 10 years, and his opponent Garry is a very serious challenger with an advantage in height and reach... Islam had completely dominated the lightweight division. Now he’s heading into his second fight in the welterweight division, where he will face one of the division’s top fighters. If he wins this fight and then defeats one more opponent in this weight class, he will have largely dominated this division as well... There have been fighters who’ve held titles in two weight classes in the past, but no fighter has ever dominated two weight classes. Islam is at a crucial point in building a legacy that no one can deny. And he’s done this by choking out his opponents and knocking them out. He didn’t win his fights solely on his wrestling ability. In my opinion, judging him based solely on his performance against JDM isn’t a fair approach... The strategy is the same. He rams the cage, takes him down by grabbing one or both legs. Stays on top, scores points. In the final rounds, exchanges punches, then takes him down. That's enough to win today. And I'm sure he'll play the same game he's played millions of other times.

Merab Dvalishvili lost, Ilia Topuria lost, I feel like this year is cursed and now Islam Makhachev might lose too. I expect everything in this fight, so I'm not gonna risk and place a bet on him, even though I'm still sure that he wins (I was so sure about Topuria too). Ian Garry spent a few months in Georgia for improving his wrestling, he trained in a town that gave a birth to many amazing wrestlers from Georgia. Even though few months aren't enough, it will be interesting to see if he improved his wrestling skills.

Undefeated Chimaev - lost. Stone hands Pereira - lost. Btw, Topuria, Chimaev and Pereira have lost this summer. Its Makhachev turn to lose Btw how many times underdogs in main card or main/co main fights have won this year? I think there were enough examples. I have also some feeling that Islam, if he wins, will announce retirement. This weekend or after next fight. If he wins, he will set new record of wins in a row. A good moment to retire.

Nurgozhay won by round 1 knockout so the fight didn’t really go the distance.
Sousa won by UD even though you predicted a KO/TKO.
The Gamrot vs Salkilld fight was the one that caught me off guard and it was pretty much the only UFC fight i watched yesterday. I never expected Gamrot to get submitted in round one like that, it was so crazy considering the fact that Gamrot is also a good wrestler and has a decent ground game which he has shown many times even in his fight with Arman.
It’s becoming very obvious that Salkilld is gonna be a problem in that lightweight division. The guy is already on a long win streak and with his performance yesterday, i think he is gonna have a bright future at the lightweight division.
The UFC should give him BSD or Paddy next, i’d love to see how he’s gonna fare against either of those two.
I watched the games. These are the picks I put my own money on, Not just picks I throw out for the signature campaign like some people do. So yeah, the results weren't great for me this week. BTW , in my model any odds more than 1.7 for gamrot was value.

Years ago, reaching Legendary meant people respected your opinion. Today, it mostly means you've been around long enough to comment on everything for a signature campaign.

He can take a lot of punches and escape holds. If he can impose his game using his height, he can win just by overshadowing Islam. But the best thing would be a knockout.

That might mean to Islam will have to spend more stamina to catch running Garry if he wants to avoid his strikes from distance and take him down. The reach and height advantage is a major plus for Ian Machado Garry, and Islam Makhachev has not faced anyone with this kind of height advantage against him in his MMA career. I doubt Islam would waste any time trying to catch a running Machado. Btw, Garry has black belt in judo. To get black belt there, you have to go through all path and do years of training. Dont forget that Rakhmonov used to be scary striker and good wrestler, but did little (however won) against Garry. Anyway, on the paper it does not look like an easy fight Shavkat went into that fight with a messed up knee. He definitely struggled early on, but he still managed to drag Garry down, control him, and grind out the decision win. I do not doubt Garry's defensive grappling skills against other grapplers, but Islam Makhachev is an elite grappler who I think is a cut above the rest in the division. ~ Ian Garry spent a few months in Georgia for improving his wrestling, he trained in a town that gave a birth to many amazing wrestlers from Georgia. Even though few months aren't enough, it will be interesting to see if he improved his wrestling skills. Even with a Judo black belt, a few months of wrestling in Georgia will not be enough to compete against a lifetime of wrestling. Other than Ian potentially knocking Islam out in the first round, I cannot think of any other way he wins, unless there is an injury.

The games he has played millions of times other times: Islam Makhachev holds a professional MMA record of 28 wins and 1 loss, featuring 5 wins by knockout and 13 wins by submission. His elite sambo background enables a high-level grappling and striking mix inside the UFC Stats record books.
Knockout FinishesTotal Knockout Wins: 5
Method breakdown: Striking and technical ground-and-pound/TKO combinations.Notable examples include early career stoppages and sharp stand-up displays before transitioning to his dominant grappling.
Submission FinishesTotal Submission Wins: 13
Common submission types:Rear-Naked Chokes (3)Armbars (3)Triangle Chokes (2)Arm-Triangle Chokes (2)D'Arce Choke, Kimura, and Brabo/Anaconda variations https://www.ufc.com/athlete/islam-makhachevEven with a Judo black belt, a few months of wrestling in Georgia will not be enough to compete against a lifetime of wrestling.
He can’t become a good wrestler just by spending two or three months in Georgia, but his takedown defense makes him one of the best fighters. He needs to go to Dagestan and stay there for two or three years to become a good wrestler... :)
If Islam wins this fight, he’ll start dominating this weight class. Aside from Morales and Prates, there won’t be anyone left for him. We’ve seen fighters who’ve been champions in two weight classes, but not everyone gets to witness legends who dominate two weight classes guys. If we get to see this, we should consider ourselves lucky... :)

I think Mackachev will finish it in the early rounds. I always think of Adriano Martins TKOing Mackachev in the first round, but that was a long time ago, and Islam was still a beginner. Now he's much more careful, analyzes each opponent better, and doesn't take risks in matches. There aren't good odds for betting on this opponent, partly due to the nature of the fight. Ian Machado Garry is also a good hitter, but I'm not sure if it's worth the risk to bet on him. Maybe it's possible with a very small amount of money, but you'll most likely lose your money anyway.

The rankings have been updated afer last weekend's event. In the Meta one, Salkilld moved up by 3 places and is now ranked 6th, while Gamrot dropped down by 3 places and is now 9th. The Media ranking also ranks Gamrot 9th but is not so favourable for Salkilld as the Meta, and ranks him 8th.
Nevertheless, it was a huge win by Quillan, who is now in a good position to ask for fights against the top 5. I wouldn't be surprised if the UFC wanted to pair him against Arman.

I dont understand some of the ranking changes happened in the past, and I think they are moving some fighters more quickly to the top if they think this can bring them more money. There is no Conor anywhere on the rankings but I remember they kept him up for a long time despite him not having any active time in octagon.

This weekend should have much more interesting UFC event, with Makhachev figthing in main event. I cant see Makhachev losing this fight against Ian Machado Garry, but odds on him are very low and not worth taking. Maybe it is worth to take fight going to distance, but I am not certain in that outcome.
Similar to what I have mentioned before, this main event will be Khabib vs. Conor 2.0 heheheh. However, I disagree on your assessment on the Dagestani. There is a chance that Islam can lose on this heavier weight division where he is a smaller man. I am excited for this but the sexy fighting kittens for the women's strawweight championship is also very much exciting heheheheheheeh! The champion! versus The challenger!

There is a chance that Islam can lose on this heavier weight division where he is a smaller man. A lot of latest fighta Garry has won by hit and run strategy. He is good at throwing some jabs, then going away from attack sector. He might jab to death and try winning points. Islam will for the first time meet someone fast and bigger than him. How will Islam distribute his stamina and strenght for whole fight, a big question. Even though Islam has a lot of experience, there is huge pressure on him. I think many just wait to see when someone finally outclass Islam. On the other hand Garry isnt losing anything if he would lose. Either lose the Islam the greatest, or beat the greatest.

Years ago, reaching Legendary meant people respected your opinion. Today, it mostly means you've been around long enough to comment on everything for a signature campaign.

Did you guys watch Dana White's Contender Series? You check out this guy... Bilal Hasan. He's of Indonesian descent who grew up in the States. He is pretty good. Could be one of the UFC's stars in the making... But we'll see. Excited to see him in his first fight in the UFC. https://www.tapology.com/fightcenter/fighters/326683-bilal-hasanHere's the degen parlay of the week. I was waiting for the list to see what the prediction for the main fight would be. I was expecting Garry, since he's the underdog. But I think Makhachev will break the record for most title defenses as well. He's the most obvious choice to bet on.

https://x.com/HappyPunch/status/2087319164859891715Islam Makhachev and Ian Garry had their first face-off. People had been talking about the height difference between the two fighters for days, but it didn’t seem as significant as mentioned in this video. Could Islam have been wearing high-soled shoes to avoid looking bad? In my opinion, that would be a good strategy to avoid looking bad in front of the press, but it would be impossible to do something like that inside the octagon... Meanwhile, Ian’s son cried because he couldn’t meet Islam. Islam said he hadn’t saw him, but that he would make time for him after the fight... Ian’s son was very sympathetic. May God protect him from all evil...
