Without a doubt, nobody predicted a knockout in this fight. I myself bet on rounds, thinking they would try to control each other until the end of the fight, but nothing happened. At least it was a surprise for everyone and broke many odds. Song

There is some controversy about Usman storming into the octagon and trying to elbow celebrating Song, but I think the situation is blown out of proportion.

It would be a nice story for Usman, currently a free agent (if I'm not mistaken), to sign the contract with the UFC and fight Song in his first UFC fight to avenge his brother, but he fights in a different weight class, so that won't happen.

I never liked how all the Dagestani fighters dominated the fights. I think Islam will fall soon too. Ian Garry could have finished Islam off if he had fought more aggressively in that match. He could have done it like Song Yadong finished him off, I think. Maybe Song Yadong was so relaxed and calm because he was in his home country, but this guy is always like that. They'll probably give Song Yadong the title fight now after this amazing victory with KO.

I thought Song Yadong was weak at first. I didn't think he would be able to survive with Usman's grappling technique. But Song Yadong has proven that he is a good enough fighter. Usman has not shown much creativity. Now, everyone in the Khabib family should not limit themselves to grappling but develop additional skills and do defensive practice. But Islam's case is different. He is not as weak as Usman. Islam can also keep aggressive opponents under control. And Islam's ability to take down is quite good, which is exactly the same strategy that Khabib had before, Islam follows. And Islam's fighting style is quite relaxing, meaning he waits for the opportunity and wants to use it. Normally, when many players try to take down their opponents, sometime they lose control themselves, sometimes they get a knockout strike . Which is not seen in Islam. His maximum take down attempts are successful.

A very bad day for Khabibs team but the most crazy thing is that I predicted in my recent post what can happen in this fight and I also said that Umar is not talented like other Dagestani fighters especially the Nurmagomedovs. But I never thought that the knockout would be this much bad. Feel so sad for him and Khabib's team now.

Guys I think the comeback of Umar in this sport is 50/50 to win the title in the bantamweight division. What do you guys think? Can Umar will become champion in the bantamweight division or not?

Looks like 2026 will be year of upsets. There were so many fights in main and co-main event this years where underdogs have won. Seems that everyone thought that this fight will be a piece of cake for Umar. So many bets Yadong has broken yesterday

Islam Makhachev - even though he is on series of 18 wins, why he often look more beaten than his opponent?
Umar Nurmagomedov - won old Figueiredo who #11, Bautista - ok he is good. But lost to Merab and later told many excuses of his loss. Lost to Yadong but was very confident in his win, and underestimated his opponent.
Usman Nurmagomedov - fighting in PFL and Bellator. Dunno how he is going to look in UFC. Statistics say that champions from other promotions arent as good as they were, when they are in UFC.
Abubakar Nurmagomedov - 2-2 in UFC and was kicked out.
Magomed Zaynukov aka John Pork - 1-0 in UFC. Can not be said much, still hasnt showed himself much. He suppose to be an elite striker, but in his fight he has too many breaches in defense. If he faces someone from top, he would be in huge trouble.
Tagir Ulanbekov - just above average fighter. Not a dominant fighter.

Other guys are not from UFC, but are PFL or Bellator top fighters. I dont know how they gonna perform in UFC.

Btw MVP is having his last fight in his contract and so far there are no news about resigning it. As an opponent UFC gave him #15 and a rather no-name guy. MVP wont level-up his media with this fight.

I’m afraid you might be right but we don’t really know for sure if the UFC is deliberately tryna punish him or maybe it’s just some matchmaking inertia, the UFC rarely admits to things like this.

It’s hard to argue that this fight will do much to elevate MVP’s profile or create any kind of urgency for a new deal; a highlight reel finish would help his case to a certain level though rather than the fight ending in another decision.

I fuck with Hooker heavy but the back to back wars he’s had have really taken a toll on him and we might never see the 2017-2020 prime version of him again.

Dude is tough and i’m sure he’s gonna bring that toughness into the fight with Parnasse but sometimes, toughness alone doesn’t win fights, you gotta be smart too and avoid taking too much damage to the body cos it can lead to deterioration and that’s what clearly happening to him.

Big respect to him cos he’s an absolute warrior but he needs to be smart in that fight with Parnasse if he wants to win it.

If he has to absorb another big volume of clean shots or body work from Parnasse just to be able to stay in the fight, then that will only accelerate the rate at which his body will decline; the body always keeps receipts.

I believe Islam's situation stems from his opponents being more concerned with being taken down than going on the offensive and implementing their own strategy. Just look at all the fights he's had; this has always happened, with few exceptions, and when they did show Islam's face, it clearly showed that he suffered. When fighters start imposing their own style on Islam, this will probably change.

He absolutely still can. That loss to Song is not a major setback. He is still young and will still be ranked in the top 5 when the ranking is updated. He will have to adjust his strategy, i.e. to make sure he doesn't telegraph his takedown attempts that much and to not be over-reliant on his wrestling. He needs to get more confident in his striking and be willing to exchange punches for long period of time, e.g. a whole first round, to make his opponents more tired, more careless, and easier to take down later in the fight.

It was obvious that Umar Nurmagomedov was a heavy favorite. It was a great uppercut by Song Yadong, it reminded me of Mark Hunt who uses the same uppercut. As long as Usman Nurmagomedov did not touch Yadong, there is nothing to complain about; however, he might still face a penalty from the athletic commission.

There is no way Usman Nurmagomedov would cut down to the bantamweight division, as he is a lightweight, which is two weight classes above.

There is no way boxing and knockout power will dictate the future in MMA. The foundational base is always how strong you are with your grappling and positional control on the ground.

Since you have not noticed, the UFC has been reluctant to sign Russian fighters for a few years now; this includes fighters from Dagestan simply because of visa and other restrictions imposed upon the country. Most of them fight in the Middle Eastern cards, and the UFC is not holding enough events just to accommodate them.

I saw that Paddy the Baddy is getting active on his social media.  He was rating cheesesteaks and pizza in the video I was watching...  I don't know how he manages to get so big and then lose so much weight so fast but he's mastered it.  After his fighting career he should do weight loss seminars or something.  He's looking huge right now though.  Makes me think we won't be seeing him fight again too soon.

Paddy is a lucky guy with unique body that burn calories fast instead of storing it. Not sure if he would tell anything new on seminars except putting body in strong stress and creation calories deficit for a period of time as well as doing active train sessions. I am not sure if people will be ready to follow his extreme water cutting before the fight routine. Also he is not doing all that alone. With nutritionist and team that help and support it easier. I dont think that individual who wants to cut weight has all that

Lol..    Punishing him or not, it is still a good match up.  And MVP is the favorite for this one btw.  But Ruziboev is live for this one.

And Hooker is washed bro.  I think it's time for him to retire due to a lot of damage taken throughout the years.  But due to his opponent is new to the UFC, I have a feeling that he could make this one close.

Dagestani fighters still have amazing records compared to any other fighters and in general, fighters from Caucasus region are on another level and that's not only true, that can disappear overnight because they are mostly genetically stronger and tougher than people from the rest of the world. That's why so many Dagestani and Georgian and Caucasian fighters in general are top fighters in UFC.

I understand your point, but before it's a job, the UFC is entertainment. If they don't provide good fights, excitement, screams of surprise, and plot twists, they'll go bankrupt or someone else will deliver better entertainment. So, the fights absolutely need to be good, and I'm sure a good fight isn't just grappling; that's part of it. But a 5-round fight that's all grappling doesn't sell.

Agreed on this argument. It is very headshaking that people will declare that this is the beginning of the end for Dagestani fighters because losses are very much needed to give strength to fighters! I reckon if Islam will lose his next fight, this will still not be the beginning of the end for them because team Khabib is very much alive to train more young fighters and follow father's plan!

In any case, I predict the Islam will lose within 3 fights if he does not retire.
