LOL, you can only ask for salary when you are working with a private firm, but when you work with government, you have to wait till it gets to your promotion time, and when you are being promoted, it comes with little benefit of increase in salary and the increase too is still not that much to cater for one’s full need.

For private firm, the only people that really enjoys and can demand for increase is when you are probably an expert in your field, so they treat you as one, but as an ordinary worker, they don’t pay attention that much too, they will only tell you that they will look into it and may not. The best is just be your own boss, work for yourself and earn whatever amount you want.

This has increased to around INR 200 as of now. Obviously the inflation has also increased during this time, but if you look at the purchasing power, it is also showing an increase.

That's what most of us will be doing in the years to come, changing our jobs every two-three years or so. It's hard to predict beforehand which job positions will be in excess in 3 years and which ones will be in high demand. I mean, it's similar to sports betting: if a team will win most likely( read: a job will be in high demand) then many people bet on it (read: many people learn that job) and your reward becomes close to nothing. Some contemporary thinkers say that bioengineering is a very promising specialization. But then again, if everybody knows that, we can end up with excess of bioengineers pretty soon.

It depends from country to country. Inflation is a big problem essentially for third world countries where the salary in the local currency could be multiplied by x number but in fact if we compare it in the past few years to gold or $/£/€...today then you will see that the salary decreased or remain the same at best...

There needs to be a demonstration to the company about your problem, if you just stay silent and just grumble then that is not the right way. I was also like that in the past but as time went on the workers took the courage to make demonstrations which in the end after a long process employees' salaries are increased every year and this is one of the processes to make companies care about their employees.

From what i learned from the situation in my country, is that whenever there is an increase in the necessary goods and overall prices, is there is an attempt from the government to fix the economical situation, when this goes people starts demanding raises in their salary which leads to nothing because the money gained from increasing prices to fix the economy goes back to the salary increase, but if this is has been going on fro 30 years like the op said means that the situation is not that bad and the increase in prices was made progressively and with very small amounts.

Life is really hard, things are expensive as you said, no good jobs for you to earn more and the little you earn also drains fast. I'll put a larher part of the blame on politicians. The price of goods rises due to inflation or there is a momentum that traders use to face certain holidays. Inflation is closely related to government policy because the price of goods increases while the value of the currency shrinks.
But if the salary does not rise for a long time, it is clear that it will not be enough to meet the needs of life because the value of the salary it receives is shrinking compared to the price of the rising goods.
In my country there are government policies that require companies to pay their employees with salaries based on the minimum living feasibility issued by the local government. And this is updated every year.

This is also a wake up call that we should not only rely on salary, we need to ensure we have a back up plan as when economy goes down, our income will be affected. It depends on the country. In some places you can only make things worse by such demonstrations.
I would suggest OP two things to choose from:

1. Change the country where you live.

2. Find a job on the Internet. A very popular thing right now is Outsourcing. Google it. Below, for example, is the link to the list of top 20 outsourcing companies in India.

What they basically do is they provide you with a job so that you work for a western company receiving 2-3 times less than what you would receive working on that particular job, say, in Great Britain. But this amount can still be much higher than what you can receive working in your country.

OP, I hear what you're saying, but it's not true for every job.  I made $11/hr in 1996 at a hospital I worked at for a few years (with no raises, by the way), and the starting wage for a related job that I know of that somebody took:  $11/hr.  So yeah, some wages do stay the same while the price of goods & services continue to increase.

On the other hand, I've held jobs where I got yearly raises that well outpaced inflation.  It really depends on what kind of work you do.  And think of this:  if wages never kept up with inflation, every single person would be living in poverty.  So what you're saying does not hold true in all cases.  Not by a long shot.
