It's not about the chickens of course, all I see is someone who built something, hooked it to a webcam, and added the Lightning Network to operate it. That, I like!

LN is still experimental and isn't used much yet, but I've seen close to a dozen different wallets already. I believe LN can get really big, and I like to encourage development of applications.

ZAP doesn't recognise tippin requests, one of my eclair wallets can't find a path, while the other found a path to tippin straight away.

My two eclair testnet wallets have numerous channels, but neither of them seems to have any traffic despite some inbound being available.  (I've got ~6 BTC combined and even bought inbound (which never seemed to appear) I can go up to ~100 BTC of testnet coins, but creating that many channels with a max of 0.1677721 each is tedious)


If you hear of any testnet LN wallets for PC I'd appreciate it if you could let me know.  I could definitely get something going that doesn't disconnect whenever the screen saver is activated in the same way Eclair does.

I've never used testnet, I always consider it to be for developers, while I (as a user) prefer to play around with real Bitcoins. I just stick to small amounts.

I'm almost ready to request a loan.  I don't really need it, just want to learn about lightning, support this effort, and have some fun feeding chickens.

But I ran into a snag:
I downloaded and installed Eclair
I sent mBTC0.5
Tried to open a channel
I was informed I needed a minimum of mBTC1 to open a channel
I sent another mBTC0.9+ from the change address of the first transaction
I opened a channel before the first transaction (mBTC0.5) had 6 confirmations
I waited
The channel finally went to "Normal" but it still said the amount I could receive is 0. 

Why can't I receive any coins?  I've since closed the channel (mutual,) and now I'm waiting for that transaction to complete.  Now that the funding transactions have plenty of confirmations, if I open another channel will I be able to receive?  What did I do wrong?  Other than not reading this thread thoroughly, and being impatient?

When you open a channel, the other party will need to fund the channel with you if you are going to receive coin. The amount you send to fund the channel is the amount the other party can receive in the channel and each party may find different amounts to start the channel.

From what I have seen, most channels will be funded by one person. There are some websites that allow you to “rent” inbound receiving capacity for a percentage of the capacity plus a fixed amount and they will “guarantee” the channel be open a predetermined minimum time, but this cannot be enforced.

I didn't realize I needed to make a payment first.  Coinplaza.it isn't available to US residents so I can't use them.  Maybe I'll feed some chickens, while I eat some chicken during my lunch break today.  Or, I could pay back my Lightning Loan before I borrow it...
