There are many fud spreads about the downfall of bitcoin but I think it is all just a circumstances, even how many times that crypto currency was attack to take it down but still standing and licking, maybe the world needs crypto currency and in the future that is where we're all going to be.

Some of the reasons why Cryptocurrencies might disappear are:

1. High transactions costs, preventing small-scale transactions or even micro/nano transactions required for the Internet of Things.

2. Low number of transactions per second, which prevents it from being used in everyday life.

3. A centralised cryptocurrency that can be controlled by a few mining pools, if they wanted to.

4. An unsustainable energy consumption, even if all miners would switch to clean energy.

You have not listed the no.1 reason (that is the one given by the OP). The single biggest threat to the existence of cryptocurrency comes from the government. Being a resident of India, I know how difficult it can get if the government starts harassing the cryptocurrency users. Last year, around 100,000 individuals received notices from the income tax department as the government closed down the local exchanges and retrieved the user data from them. Banks closed down any savings account that was even remotely linked to crypto-trading and as a result most of the trading has either gone underground or has shifted to P2P.

Crypto currency in my opinion will not die, this is evident from the predictions of experts last year when the price of bitcoin was USD 3000 and said the death of bitcoin was near. It turned out that what happened was very different, today the price of bitcoin reached USD 12821 and price increases continued.
So I think crypto currencies with accompanying blockchain technology will continue to be used as long as internet technology still exists, because the main factor for crypto continuity is the availability of internet networks.

It has been said several times before, it's not new to hear such fuds about cryptocurrency. I would prefer not to take them seriously. Don't mind them because obviously, lots of people are comfortable with cryptos and blockchains and I think nothing is wrong with them. Crypto makes life easier and far better than the traditional method of payments.

Blockchain is a technology where most of the studies are adopting it to create more innovative projects so it means that it will last long.
