Why the need for LED lights?? Can you use a combination of natural and other lights?

Great question. LED lighting gives out light of different wavelengths that target different types of chlorophyll. This increases the amount of sunlight absorbed, therefore making photosynthesis very efficient, thus assisting in achieving the primary goal of vertical farming which is to produce more food per square meter.

The hydrophonics system is a key part of vertical farming. VFarm specifically uses the Nutrient Film Technique (NFT) where plants are grown in a soilless solution that is recycled from a reservoir. This provides hydration (water), oxygen and nutrients, which are normally found in soil, and are required for roots. Since in vertical farms the roots are uncovered and exposed to more oxygen, the crops will be able to grow at a faster rate.

VFarm has commenced the build on the first farm in the golden triangle of Kuala Lumpur in May 2019, and is expected to yield the first batch of crops by the end of August 2019. The first farm is designed to produce 20 tonnes of crops monthly which will be marketed through contract farming. Contract farming is a mode of procurement over a period of time for specified types of vegetables. It is usually entered with hoteliers / convention centre. Hope this answers your question.

I think blockchain will really be utilized by this project because people can track where their food is coming from and if it's safe.

Vfarm will also enables ecosystem users to not only have total traceability of the produce on food safety but also drive social impact via informed choices on their purchases.

Are you going to post photos/videos for the upcoming harvest?
August is almost over so I think you are about to do the harvesting here.
And are you going to test your technology on this first harvest to assess what things need to be done or what possible problems you might encounter in the implementation phase?
