India failed to win ICC tournaments even they are being held at the sub-continent. They maybe the strongest team, and BCCI is the richest board by some distance. But their performance during ICC tournaments has been pathetic. And one of the main reasons for this has been poor selection policies. Poor performers such as Shubman Gill and Rohit Sharma are being retained, while players such as Karun Nair and Abhimanyu Easwaran, who has been performing well in domestic cricket are being ignored.

India has a decent record in ICC events, they won the last T20 world cup and were runner up in 2023 ODI world cup that was held in India. Moreover, MS Dohni is the only captain in cricket history that has won all three ICC trophies.

It's dilemma in south Asia that players who once establish there name are made permanent part of team no matter whether they perform or not. Babar Azam is the prime example in Pakistan, in ODIs he has scored his last century in Aug 2023 against Nepal and since then he has played 18 innings without a century.

Pro50 Championship

Two games of series Pro50 Championship was played and one game between Southern Rocks and Mountaineers was ended and this game held on Takashinga Sports Club. Mountaineers batsman played very well and they set 327 runs in 50 overs by losing 9 wickets. Maruma made a great progress and they made a brilliant century 100 runs in 84 balls and gutted five 4s and six 6s. Magoda also showed great help team to win game and he made half century 58 runs in 43 balls and hitted six 4s and one 6s. Congratulations Mountaineers  win game by 58 runs. Rocks team chased down 269 runs and lost game by 58 runs. Chataira bowlers took down 3 wickets in 10 overs and gave 82 runs.

In the absence of Virat (he bats at 3), they included debutant Jaiswal in the opening slot and pushed Gill to 3. I believe Gill will open again along with Rohit if Virat is fit for the next match.  

I am not sure if you watched the post match interview of Shreyas where he mentions that he only got to play because Virat was injured, you can still watch it on Hotstar.

I did, and it was a rhetorical statement just for the media bite because he was sidelined from the test squad (for the right reasons; complacency) and later, lost the annual contract. Also hardly gets another look in T-20 (again for the right reasons; heavy competitive space).

But in ODI his position was never in danger. Due to their performance in WC, He and KL cemented their position in the middle order for good and will get a long rope even if they fail.

Spots in the playing XI are finalized based on who can bat where not who's available. Ofc sometimes they can airdrop someone but 99.99% of the times it goes like this.

We should have won the last Champions Trophy final, 2019 WC semi (potentially WC) and 2023 ODI WC Final because we had an A+ team and almost every player was in God mode form.

India had no business to win any T-20 WC in the last 6-7 years because we had an outdated formula of " Anchoring" which they dished out in the last T-20 WC.

Yes, we lost the last 2 WTC finals because of selection (playing XI, not squad, the squad was goated) and braindead captaincy.

Pakistan team are focusing on the ODI games and we heard this from their coaches as well.  In the test and in T20 matches, Pakistan are not doing their best and often perform poor or faced a loss. But in ODI matches, Pakistan somehow boost their performances and none of the team are able to give them defeat nowadays as recently they have defeated South Africa in their home ground. Same they defeated Australia in their home ground but both of the times, Pakistan lost the T20 series so let's see what will happen in this Tri-Nation series.

But according to the current situation of the game, I will still put New Zealand ahead in this match.
