Sometimes, we are also angry with the platform, where they cannot provide the secured platform and be hacked. You are responsible for your account, if you didn't do something to tighten the security then its your negligence.

But if you insist that it's not your fault, then file a complain against this incident to the exchange where your account was hacked. There are circumstances that it's a backdoor hack and it's the negligence of the exchange. In other words, this depends on the situation but unless the exchange proved that it's not on their part and you are aware on how you protected your account, it's hard to pin point though they can just simply deny that it's not their fault.

More and more exchanges being hacked so for now - I don't trust them I started to use buycoinnow where you can buy bitcoin via credit card. This is definitely less dangerous this times to me.

There are many ways coins might get lost from the wallet and many ways to define what could be called a hack.
That could be a mistake from your side like phishing or password theft, and malware you've unknowingly installed. Even forgetting or erasing the password or 2FA key, private key, mnemonic phrases,  etc results in lost of coins.
On the side of site, there could be hack on it's database or wallet, on which case, the site would be responsible for the mistake.

Definitely your fault. If the exchange is not hacked, and only the account is hacked. But if the whole exchange is hacked and you are the victim. The exchange must be responsible for your money

The hackers mistake for hacking nothing.
You said you just created it but never said you bought or deposited any coin out of it.

So it is really their mistake for picking a wrong wallet. Their efforts are wasted.
Dont blame yourself. You did nothing wrong since no money is related.

They will do an investigation they will look if you employ security measures on your account, all exchanges have security measures for all their clients and they asked all their clients to activate it,  email verification 2-factor authentication if they these are absent then it's your negligence, they will check the login where it comes from and investigate if it is through your negligence, you should as a client do all necessary precautions to employ all available security of the exchange.

I think no one is responsible of being hacked aside from you. It is your mistake. You need to be careful in every action that you make here in crypto. To avoid this kind of issue you must keep your password,private keys or even your transactions private and no one must know about it except from you. And avoid to browse in too much in some page that asking your private keys and password because it can cause scam.

exchanges should keep their website secure and if they state it in their terms and conditions that website will not be responsible in case of hacking then there will be no one to blame for the lost funds though we witnessed from binance recent hack that they refunded the hacked ammount to the users accounts. never keep funds on the exchanegs instead store them on wallets

The one that took/find your password and logged to your account and took your coins is responsible for that.

Personally, I think that everyone should be responsible for their actions for which the user himself is responsible. For having hacked an account or wallet it means there was a very weak password and it was hacked. In this case, I recommend creating very strong passwords and making a few wallets to save your money.

If you created a wallet and made the loss of secret keys, then you yourself are to blame.
If you created an account on the exchange and allowed the possibility of hacking the account (lost password, did not include additional security measures), then you are to blame.
If you created an account on the exchange, and its (exchange) was hacked, then the exchange is to blame.

I would say both are responsible, but exchanges more responsible.

There is so much information on how exchanges can be risky.
If you store your coins on an exchanges, you have the responsibility to bear that risk and consequences.

But, also, on the other hand, the exchange has the responsibility to keep your coins safe.
In the asame way that a bank is responsible to keep your money safe.
The thing is, if someone is determined enough to steal your coins, they will find a way.
No matter how much security measures there are.
So in the end, who is to say where the ultimate responsibility lies?
